Abstract

Background: Peripheral neuropathy diabetic is a problem that will be experienced by almost all patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). One of the non-pharmacological therapies that can be done to reduce the complaints of peripheral neuropathy diabetic is foot massage. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of foot massage on decreasing peripheral neoropathy diabetic complaints.Method: The research design was a one group pretest-post-test design (foot massage) as the treatment given to the patients with T2DM. The population in this study was the patients with T2DM who had peripheral neuropathy diabetic. Seventy-two participants were involved as the sample of the study selected through simple random sampling. The data was collected using the questionnaire of the Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument.Result: The results were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Sign Rank test with a significance level was set at α = 0.05.Conclusion: The foot massage had a significant effect at reducing the complaints of peripheral neuropathy diabetic in patients with T2DM (p=0,000 < ɑ 0.05). The patients with T2DM are expected to practice foot massage independently.

Abstract

Introduction: Palliative end-of-life care (PEOLC) is heavily impacted by culture and always discusses death, bereavement, uncertainty, loss, grief, and incurable disease. Long-term care and more culturally sensitive nursing care are essential to address the diverse needs of patients. This study aimed to develop a PEOLC model grounded in transcultural nursing principles, with a focus on enhancing the quality of care for patients requiring long-term support. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional explanatory design involving 180 patients with chronic illnesses as participants selected using simple random sampling. The proposed model involved eight variables: patient factors, nurse factors, service factors, family factors, technology factors, the PEOLC model, quality of life, and quality of death. A valid questionnaire was used to collect data, and we employed SEM-PLS to analyse the results. Results: The PEOLC model had an R2 value of 0.61. These findings showed that 60.1% of the variability of PEOLC variables was explained by the patient, family, nurse, service, and technology aspects. For each construct, a value of Q2 > 0 (0.083) indicated that the model was appropriate. The path coefficient value of 0.343 indicates that the service factors make the most significant contribution to the PEOLC model. Conclusions: This research led to the development of the PEOLC model, which comprises eight variables. It provides a comprehensive framework for integrating transcultural nursing principles into long-term care and emphasises the importance of cultural sensitivity in delivering personalised and effective end-of-life care.

Abstract

Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a global health challenge that persists in causing both health emergencies and mental health crises around the world. This study aimed to analyze the factors contributing to COVID-19 infection and their impact on mental health crises on Java Island. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between June and July 2020 on Java Island, Indonesia, involving 1,218 respondents selected through convenience sampling. The independent variables included demographic, individual internal, and psychological factors, while the dependent variable was mental health crisis occurrence. Data were collected through demographic information, knowledge and attitude questionnaires, depression anxiety stress scores, the brief-COPE inventory, as well as surveys addressing encountered problems and mental health emergencies. The collected data underwent analysis using chi-square and multivariate logistic regression. Results: Significance was observed in the relationship between demographic, individual internal, and psychological factors, and their impact on mental health crises (p < 0.05). Following adjustment with logistic regression, psychological factors exhibited a more pronounced relationship, with the highest association observed in stress levels (p = 0.000, 95% CI: 1.064-2.131). Conclusions: Individual stress levels emerged as the foremost contributing factor to mental health crises. Psychological elements, encompassing anxiety levels, stress, coping mechanisms, and encountered challenges, played substantial roles in disrupting psychological well-being and mental health.
