Abstract

The advancement of digital technology, particularly social media, has transformed the way dakwah is delivered, especially among the younger generation. This study focuses on the use of Instagram Reels as a platform to increase engagement with dakwah content among UINSU students. The problem addressed in this research is how appropriate strategies can be employed to attract audience attention and enhance involvement in dakwah content. Through a qualitative approach, data were collected from literature reviews and observations of UINSU students' use of Instagram Reels. The findings indicate that dakwah content presented in short video formats (15-30 seconds) with clear and creative messages effectively captures students' attention. Factors such as message relevance, interactivity, and creativity in content presentation play crucial roles in boosting engagement. Content addressing current issues relevant to students' daily lives, along with encouraging active audience participation, achieved higher interaction levels. Additionally, the timing of posts also significantly influences the success of attracting the audience. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that Instagram Reels holds substantial potential as an effective medium for dakwah to enhance engagement. Therefore, dakwah content creators are encouraged to implement strategies that focus on authenticity, relevance, and creativity to convey religious messages effectively in the digital era. This research is expected to provide insights for preachers and practitioners of dakwah in formulating more innovative and adaptive communication approaches tailored to the characteristics of the younger generation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the marketing communication strategy of oil palm seedlings implemented by the Palm Oil Research Center (PPKS) in increasing brand awareness amidst agribusiness competition and the rampant circulation of illegal seedlings. This research is important because studies on marketing communications in the oil palm seed sector are still limited, while most previous studies have focused more on sales, general promotions, or marketing of consumer products, rather than on building brand awareness in the context of trust-based agribusiness. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. The research informants numbered six people consisting of PPKS management and consumers/users of oil palm seedlings. The results show that PPKS implements an integrated marketing communication strategy through online and offline channels, including the use of social media, the MySawit application, direct services, interpersonal communication, and education to farmers about the advantages of superior seedlings and the importance of purchasing through official channels. These findings indicate that PPKS brand awareness is not only shaped by the intensity of promotions, but also by the institution's credibility, the quality of educational messages, and long-term relationships with consumers. The contribution of this research lies in the affirmation that in the agribusiness sector, an effective marketing communication strategy is not only informative, but must be able to integrate education, trust, and institutional legitimacy to strengthen the brand's position in the market.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the high risk of disasters in North Sumatra and the importance of effective government public communication in crisis situations, particularly through online media. This study aims to analyze how government public communication messages are represented and framed in Kompas.com news coverage related to disaster management. The method used is a qualitative approach with a case study design and qualitative content analysis. The data consists of Kompas.com news articles from the end of November to December 2025, selected purposively based on thematic relevance. The analysis was conducted through the stages of data collection, coding, interpretation of meaning, and drawing conclusions using framing theory. The results show that the media tends to frame disasters as emergencies with the main cause being natural factors, and presents the government as the main actor that is responsive through evacuation, aid distribution, and direct visits to disaster sites. Furthermore, there is a tendency for framing to build a positive image of the government, although in some cases criticisms regarding environmental aspects and policies have emerged. The conclusion of this study indicates that media framing plays a significant role in shaping public perception of government communication, thus requiring synergy between the government and the media to produce accurate, balanced, and reliable information in disaster situations.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital media has transformed journalistic media consumption patterns in higher education, raising concerns about information credibility and increasing vulnerability to misinformation. This study aims to analyse differences in patterns, preferences, and objectives of journalistic media use between university students and lecturers in Medan City. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving students and lecturers from several higher education institutions. The findings reveal clear differences between the two groups. Students tend to rely on social media platforms and digital news portals due to their speed, ease of access, and compatibility with digital lifestyles. At the same time, lecturers predominantly use more credible and analytical journalistic sources, such as Kompas.com, Tempo.co, and academic journals to support teaching and research activities. Variations influence these differences in digital literacy levels, information needs, and attitudes toward misinformation. Students are found to be more vulnerable to hoaxes, whereas lecturers demonstrate more critical and selective information practices. The study highlights the importance of strengthening media literacy in higher education through curriculum integration, targeted training, and collaboration with media professionals to foster a credible and educational digital information ecosystem.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the da'wah method of Ustadzah Halimah Alaydrus on Instagram social media, which is a unique phenomenon due to the high public interest in her da'wah, both online and offline, even though she never shows her face and only uses her voice. This uniqueness creates a research gap, namely the lack of in-depth studies on the effectiveness and strategies of da'wah without facial visualization on social media platforms. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with a data collection method through analysis of Ustadzah Halimah's da'wah content on Instagram, and is supported by relevant literature studies. The da'wah method used by Ustadzah Halimah is bil hikmah and mauidzatil hasanah, which means conveying messages wisely and with good advice. The results of the study show how Ustadzah Halimah utilizes social media platforms to convey religious messages effectively without involving visual appearance. Live content presented with a clear voice and a simple but attractive Instagram feed visual design, such as the use of pastel colors and a neat layout, helps maintain the audience's attention. The combination of live preaching content through live videos and aesthetic posts on Instagram feeds allows his preaching messages to be well received by followers. The positive reception of the audience towards this method shows that non-visual preaching can be an effective strategy in spreading religious messages in the digital era.
