Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah in preserving local religious traditions in Indonesia through a socio-anthropological approach. As an Islamic primary education institution, Madrasah Ibtidaiyah not only provides academic instruction but also functions as a guardian of students’ religious and social identities. Amid the strong currents of globalization, these madrasahs face challenges in maintaining local religious traditions such as the celebration of the Prophet’s Birthday (Maulid Nabi), tahlilan, and collective dhikr, which are increasingly being displaced by modern culture. This study employs a literature review method to explore various strategies implemented by madrasahs in integrating traditional values into the curriculum and extracurricular activities. The findings indicate that tradition-based education in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah contributes significantly to the formation of students’ religious identities and the strengthening of social cohesion within the community. This study highlights the importance of innovation in relevant learning methods to ensure the sustainability of local religious traditions in the era of modernization.

Abstract

One of the paradigms for looking at character or personality is culture. This paradigm sees character not only influenced by culture but shaped by culture itself. This affirms that the character of society is dynamic, it will always differ depending on the cultural context that forms it. This article aims to elaborate on the tradition of character learning in maritime society. The source of the data is the result of ethnographic studies in Wakatobi Regency. Data collection was carried out by depth interviews, participant observation, and literature review. The results showed that the distinctive character of marine communities that are tough, hardworking, unyielding, honest, responsible, and friendly to nature, is not formed naturally. Nautical character is shaped by a cultural environment full of challenges and risks, however life in the sea is related to matters of life and death. There are four stages of character learning tradition in nautical society, namely: character learning through prospective sailors, chefs, mustards, and masters. The four stages are an interrelated process, which shows the importance of character building in maritime culture.

Abstract

Scheduling subjects in secondary schools implementing the kurikulum merdeka presents a complex challenge. Kurikulum merdeka demands a high degree of flexibility, fulfillment of individual learning needs, and integration between mandatory and elective subjects. The complexity increases due to time constraints, uneven distribution of teaching loads, limited classroom availability, and potential schedule conflicts between teachers and students. The manual approach, which is still commonly used, is often inefficient, time-consuming, and results in suboptimal schedules. To address these challenges, this study proposes an automated scheduling model based on Integer Linear Programming (ILP), implemented using LINGO 19.0 software. The model considers various real-world constraints, such as the maximum number of study hours per day, designated days for mandatory and elective subjects, the requirement for two consecutive periods per subject, and teacher availability. A case study was conducted for Grade XI at SMAN 58 Jakarta, involving 9 classes, 32 teachers, and 18 subjects (9 mandatory and 9 elective). The experimental results show that the model can produce efficient, conflict-free schedules, accelerate the scheduling process, and support equitable teacher workload distribution.

Abstract

Learning animal anatomy in higher education often suffers from limitations in terms of visual media and practical time. Technology-based solutions such as web-based electronic atlases (e-atlases) can improve conceptual understanding and support digital continuous learning. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of web-based e-atlas in improving biology students' animal anatomy learning outcomes through a flipped classroom approach. This study used the ADDIE development model and a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach. A total of 130 third semester students from three universities in Yogyakarta were divided into control (n=64) and experimental (n=66) classes. Instruments in the form of objective tests were validated by experts, and data were tested using Gain Score, N-gain, and t-test with parametric assumptions. The experimental class using e-atlas showed a significant increase in learning outcomes (N-gain=0.75; high category) compared to the control class (N-gain=0.29; low category), with significant differences based on t-test (p<0.001). These results support that e-atlas integration is effective in improving students' anatomical literacy. The use of web-based e-atlas in flipped classroom learning is effective, efficient, and has the potential to support the sustainability of biology learning. The findings recommend continued development of digital media to expand access and reduce reliance on physical animal dissection.

Abstract

Traditional calendars often embody complex knowledge systems that remain underexplored in formal academic discourse, especially in the context of indigenous mathematics. This study investigates the mathematical structures embedded in the Javanese Aboge calendar, a traditional timekeeping system preserved by the Aboge community in Cikakak Village, Banyumas Regency, Indonesia. While the official Javanese calendar has transitioned to the Asapon kurup, the Aboge community continues to follow the older Aboge kurup, rooted in local belief and tradition. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and ethnographic methods—comprising field observations, interviews, and collaborative computations—this study examines the underlying mathematical logic of the calendar. The findings reveal that the Aboge calendar applies modular arithmetic, particularly congruences modulo 7 (days) and modulo 5 (pasaran), to determine the first day of each month. These values follow recursive patterns modeled using mathematical formulas. Additionally, the Chinese Remainder Theorem is employed to calculate intervals between specific day-pasaran pairs, validating traditional practices through formal mathematical reasoning. The results demonstrate that the Aboge calendar encapsulates sophisticated mathematical concepts traditionally transmitted through memorization. This study highlights the value of cultural diversity and affirms the role of indigenous knowledge in sustainable development, reinforcing the importance of integrating local traditions into educational and heritage preservation efforts.

Abstract

Cutting stock problem (CSP) is a problem of cutting an object into several smaller objects to fulfill the existing demand with a minimum unused object remaining. Besides minimizing the remaining of the object, sometimes there is another additional problem in CSP, namely minimizing the number of different cutting patterns. This happens because there is a setup cost for each pattern. This study shows a way to obtain a minimum number of different patterns in the cutting stock problem (CSP). An example problem is modeled in linear programming and then solved by a column generation algorithm using the Lingo 18.0 software.

Abstract
