Abstract

As the pandemic of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues while there is no drug and vaccine available, every effort to discover one should be considered. This review aimed to discuss the potential use of jamu, the Indonesian traditional herbal medicine, to deal with COVID-19 by following those of more-established traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The online literature search using the PubMed database, as well as the circulars from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, were carried out to collect data up to June 07, 2020. The use of TCM for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19 has been officiated in the Chinese National Clinical Guideline on COVID-19 Associated Pneumonia, with shen-fu-tang + su-he-xiang pill and xiang-sha-liu-junzi- tang as the most frequently suggested formulae to treat severe and recovery stages of COVID-19, respectively. In Indonesia, the highly promoted product for the prevention of this disease is likely the adaptation of a TCM formula, while the use of some other formulae, which mainly containing Zingiberaceae, is suggested by the Government for the said purpose. The rationalization of the use of medicinal plants and suggested polyherbal formulae, based on their available pharmacological activity and the bioactive compounds, is also discussed in this review. The use of jamu for COVID-19, however, needs to be carefully considered for the limited scientific data available to support it.

Abstract

his study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Management Control System (MCS) in mitigating dysfunctional behavior within Institution X, an Indonesian Anti-Corruption Agency. Drawing on the Levers of Control (LoC) theory, specifically emphasizing belief and boundary systems, the research investigates how the MCS effectively addresses and mitigates dysfunctional behavior that hampers organizational performance. Primary data were collected through a questionnaire administered to 34 budget users at the work unit level. Rigorous paper-check analysis and data triangulation, including interviews with specialists and Echelon III officials, were conducted to ensure the validity of the findings. The results highlight a noticeable divergence in perception between budget users and management regarding the effectiveness of the MCS. While budget users perceive the MCS as effective, management expresses concern about its ability to address dysfunctional behavior adequately. Additionally, the study reveals a recurring pattern of year-end spending spikes (YESS) over the past five years, indicating a potential correlation between myopic behavior and suboptimal planning. Blurred strategic boundaries within Institution X also contribute to dysfunctional behavior. These findings underscore the need to enhance the MCS's effectiveness in mitigating dysfunctional behavior and optimizing organizational performance. Based on the empirical evidence, it can be concluded that the current state of the MCS in Institution X meets basic user requirements but falls short of mitigating dysfunctional behavior and supporting management in achieving organizational goals. This study sheds light on the challenges associated with the MCS's effectiveness and provides actionable insights for enhancing management control systems within similar contexts

Abstract

A combination of ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) and Javanese turmeric (Curcuma zanthorrhiza Roxb.) rhizomes is used by Baturraden, Central Java, people to treat an ailment called masuk angin. This study aimed to evaluate the quality profile of ginger and Javanese turmeric crude drugs and determine the total flavonoid content (TFC) and the total phenolic content (TPC) of combinations of both crude drugs in five different weight ratios. Standardization of crude drugs used parameters, methods, and standards of the compendial Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopeia (IHP). Ginger crude drugs met the standard in parameters of morphology, loss on drying, acid-insoluble ash, ethanol extractable, and water extractable, while morphology and values of loss on drying, acid-insoluble ash, ethanol extractable, water extractable, and volatile content of Javanese turmeric were within their respective specifications. The TFC of Javanese turmeric is lower than that of ginger, but the opposite trend was observed for TPC. The crude drug weight ratio significantly affected the TFC and TPC of the ginger and Javanese turmeric combination. The combination with the highest TFC and TPC was Formula IV (7.11±0.37 mg Quercetin equivalent (QE)/g) and Formula II (21.65±1.49 mg Gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g), respectively.  Our study suggested that ginger and Javanese turmeric crude drugs were not of good quality, and their mixture in weight ratio of 25-75 provided the highest TPC warrant for further bioactivity evaluations.

Abstract

Respiratory Tract Infection is a condition that triggers inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, such as the nose, throat, sinuses, and airways leading to the lungs. Symptoms such as runny nose, cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, sneezing, and fever appear. Because the symptoms are often similar to other diseases, people with respiratory infections are often unaware of their condition. For this reason, a system that can diagnose respiratory infection symptoms quickly and accurately is needed. By integrating biology and artificial intelligence (AI), a biotechnology expert system for respiratory tract infections was developed. The Certainty Factor method is used to assess the level of confidence in a symptom based on the beliefs of an expert. The system is designed for the general public to receive examination results in the form of percentages, which help identify whether the symptoms experienced fall into the category of sinusitis, pneumonia, pharyngitis, or asthma. The doctor's question feature as a development of the previous system, allows users to consult with doctors about the symptoms experienced. The test results that have been carried out show that the results are in accordance with manual calculations. In addition, the system accuracy test resulted in an accuracy value of 80%.

Abstract

Wonogiri Regency is one of the regions that has been extensively developed into a tourist destination. The abundance of tourist destinations makes it difficult for prospective tourists to find destinations that meet their criteria. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a recommendation system that can help prospective tourists find tourist destinations that match their criteria. This research aims to build a tourist destination recommendation system using the knowledge-based recommendation method. The system development uses the Rapid Application Development (RAD) method, which consists of several stages including needs analysis, modeling/design, development and feedback collection, and implementation. This research is only conducted up to the system modeling/design stage to ensure that the designed system, including the database, template, and user interface design, can be completed and optimized first before proceeding to the next stage. Focusing on this modeling stage also provides an opportunity to thoroughly verify and validate the designed system. The knowledge-based recommendation system method provides recommendations based on the similarity value between the attribute values desired by the user and the attribute values in the database. In this study, the recommendation system for tourist destinations in Wonogiri Regency uses 5 attributes of tourist destinations, namely tourism category, ticket price, location (sub-district), rating, and facilities. Based on the similarity calculation using 11 sample tourist destination data, the system provides a tourist destination recommendation that matches the user's chosen criteria with a similarity value of 0.893 for Goa Resi. The results of this knowledge-based recommendation modeling can serve as a reference in the development of a tourist destination recommendation system.ABSTRAKKabupaten Wonogiri adalah salah satu daerah yang banyak dikembangkan menjadi destinasi wisata.
