Abstract

The ethyl acetate fraction separated from the stembark of Sonneratia caseolaris retrieved three phenolic compounds, including quercetin-3-O-glucoside (1), quercetin (2), and 1-O-(2,4-dihydroxybenzoyl)-β-D-glucopyranose (3). For the first time, compounds 1 and 3 were discovered from Sonneratia genus. Data from various spectroscopic techniques, including mass spectroscopy and one- and two-dimensional NMR, were used to identify their chemical structures. Antibacterial activity has also been assessed for all compounds against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25175 and Streptococcus mutans ATCC 6538. Compounds 1–3 displayed varying levels of antibacterial activity against S. aureus and S. mutans. However, all compounds exhibited lower efficacy compared to the control, with their minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values ranging from 71.25 to greater than 100 µg/mL. This study provides a foundation for optimizing S. caseolaris phenolic compounds as antibacterial agents and highlights the need for comparative studies within the Sonneratia genus to identify potent bioactive candidates through structural modification or synergistic approaches.

Abstract

This study aims to examine criminal law enforcement in medical malpractice cases. Using library research methods, data was collected from various sources, such as books, journals, and magazines, to analyze and address the issues under study. The results indicate that a physician can be held criminally liable for malpractice if two main elements are met: an unlawful act (objective element) and fault on the part of the perpetrator, either intentional or negligent (subjective element). Furthermore, this article outlines several parameters for identifying suspected violations of the law, including due care (zorgvuldigheid), appropriate diagnosis and therapy, and compliance with professional standards and the principle of proportionality. This study concludes that physicians need to understand their legal responsibilities to anticipate potential lawsuits from patients.

Abstract

Geologically, the city of Padang had the potential for large earthquake impacts due to its location within the Sumatran Fault, Mentawai Fault, and above the Subduction Zone. The magnitude of earthquake damage was determined by soil quality factors and earthquake intensity. To determine the extent of damage, the maximum ground acceleration value was used. This value represented the maximum ground vibration acceleration that occurred at a specific location within a particular area, resulting from all earthquakes that occurred during a specific time period. The maximum ground acceleration value and earthquake intensity in the Padang City area could be calculated using the Atkhinson Boore (2003) method. This study was a quantitative research that commenced by examining relevant theories related to the issue at hand. The research then proceeded with the collection of secondary data obtained from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) website. Specifically, earthquake data for the period between 2000 - 2020 in the Padang City area with coordinates LS- LS and BT- BT, and a magnitude M ≥ 5.0 SR depth < 100 km were utilized. Historical earthquake data was employed to determine earthquake intensity values, which were then used to assess the earthquake risk in the Padang City area. Based on the calculation results, the maximum acceleration value of soil was found between 0.519001 g- 0.603847 g. The highest value of maximum acceleration of soil was located in Bungus Teluk Kabung area, while the lowest value was found in Koto Tangah area. The distribution of earthquake intensity (MMI) in Kota Padang area has a value of VIII MMI.

Abstract

Disobinol is a limonoid compound from the seeds of the Chisocheton macrophyllus plant that has been reported to have anticancer activity against cervical cancer cell lines. Cervical cancer is a type of cancer caused by infection with Human papillomavirus (HPV) types 16 and 18, leading to the transformation of normal cervical epithelial cells into cancerous cells. Previous studies show that Disobinol has a cytotoxic effect on HeLa cells with the IC50 value 52,92 μg/mL (24 hours’ incubation). This study aims to determine the level of apoptosis in HeLa cells treated with Disobinol and observe the DNA fragmentation in HeLa cells undergoing apoptosis. The HeLa cells were treated with Disobinol at concentrations of 26,5 μg/mL (1/2 IC50), 52,3 μg/mL (IC50), and 104,6 μg/mL (2x IC50) and incubated for 24 hours. The level of apoptosis was analyzed by using flow cytometry, and the DNA fragmentation pattern was analyzed by agarose gel electrophoresis. The results showed that Disobinol induces early apoptosis in HeLa cells, although the difference in the percentage of cell death is not very significant, which were 37.05%, 37.7%, and 41.60%, respectively. The DNA fragmentation pattern in HeLa cells treated with various concentrations of Disobinol was also observed on agarose gel. Therefore, Disobinol has the potential to be used as a chemotherapeutic drug or as a lead compound for the treatment of cervical cancer.
