Abstract

Pemanfaatan air permukaan untuk aktivitas domestik masih menjadi tantangan sanitasi yang berkelanjutan di banyak wilayah berkembang, termasuk di daerah sepanjang Sungai Kampar. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh masih tingginya ketergantungan masyarakat Desa Kampung Pinang terhadap sungai untuk kegiatan mandi, cuci, dan kakus (MCK), meskipun terdapat risiko kontaminasi biologis dan penyakit yang ditularkan melalui air. Kondisi ini diperparah oleh terbatasnya akses terhadap infrastruktur sanitasi yang layak serta belum stabilnya distribusi air bersih secara formal, sehingga masyarakat tetap mempertahankan praktik tradisional dalam memanfaatkan air Sungai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pola pemanfaatan sungai serta menganalisis faktor-faktor yang melatarbelakangi keputusan rasional masyarakat dalam menjadikan sungai sebagai sarana sanitasi utama. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan teknik purposive sampling, melibatkan tujuh informan yang terdiri dari pengguna aktif, non-pengguna, serta aparatur desa. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi langsung terhadap kondisi permukiman serta struktur fisik seperti pelantar kayu yang menghubungkan rumah dengan sungai. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan Teori Pilihan Rasional dari James S. Coleman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan sungai mencakup aktivitas mandi, mencuci, dan buang air, dengan aktivitas mencuci sebagai yang paling dominan karena dinilai praktis sekaligus menjadi ruang interaksi sosial. Terdapat lima faktor utama yang mendorong perilaku tersebut, yaitu kedekatan geografis, kegagalan infrastruktur (khususnya program Pamsimas), efisiensi ekonomi, kebiasaan budaya yang telah mengakar, serta persepsi kesehatan subjektif. Secara teoretis, perilaku ini merepresentasikan pilihan rasional masyarakat untuk memaksimalkan manfaat di tengah keterbatasan sumber daya. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa selama akses terhadap air bersih belum terselesaikan secara optimal, pilihan rasional masyarakat akan terus mengarah pada pemanfaatan Sungai Kampar sebagai sumber utama kebutuhan domestik.

Abstract

Inclusive education is essential, but many people still discriminate against children with special needs, including deaf children. At first glance, deaf children are no different from other children. Therefore, their parents also want their children to grow and develop like others. This study aims to explore this issue using qualitative methods to understand parents' social constructions regarding their children's education. The research was carried out at SLB Sri Mujinab Pekanbaru, one of the oldest special schools in Pekanbaru. Participants were selected purposively, employing interaction analysis techniques. This study found that deaf children also achieve various milestones and are not intellectually inferior. Their parents hope that their children grow and develop like typical children. The widespread use of social media and services for children with special needs has compelled parents to learn extensively to support their children's growth and development so that they can become independent.

Abstract

Parents are one of the roles that each community has. But not all parents have children with perfect physical conditions. Most parents send their children with special needs not to put them in public schools but to special schools or commonly known as special schools. SLB is a school for children with special needs so that they can carry out or play with their peers at school as in other public schools. The research in this article is studied to find out how much parents or trustee parents and their teachers were involved in increasing the effectiveness of learning at SLB Panam Mulia during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research method used was a descriptive qualitative research approach. Data collection was included in the form of observations, interviews, and documentation. The subjects in this study were concerned with the parents or trustee parents of the students. The purpose of using this method was how the parents or trustee parents of the students and the teachers were concerned to provide the information to overcome the changes in the learning system for special schools during the Covid-19 pandemic so that teaching and learning activities remained effective. And SLB students continued to receive good quality learning services and provide the information related to the analysis of the social impacts experienced by all SLB components regarding the systematic changes in learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

The main cause of the gender gap in education is a lack of commitment and understanding of gender in Rokan Hilir (Hidir & Yanis, 2015). This study aims to (1) implement/apply the model of community empowerment-based design thinking in order to achieve gender-responsive education in Rokan Hilir; (2) to formulate gender-responsive educational design that is contextual in Rokan Hilir. This study uses a qualitative method variant in the form of phenomenology. The unit of analysis is the institutional community of the Department of Education and educators as well as educators in Rokan Hilir. The data collection technique uses the techniques of Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) with data analysis techniques in the form of a three-lane qualitative data analysis, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results showed that the application of design thinking allows for the application of social change, especially the mindset of the target group in a bottom-up manner. This means that the commitment and understanding of gender-responsive education could be increased from the root (grass root) without imposing target groups to change the values of the original locality of the region. Therefore, community empowerment is done to encourage social changes in a smooth and constructive manner for local development in Rokan Hilir, especially in the field of education and gender.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Isu gender telah lama menjadi isu utama dalam keluarga. Ketimpangan pembagian peran antara laki-laki dan perempuan menjadi permasalahan utama kesenjangan gender. Namun seiring berjalannya waktu, sosialisasi pendidikan egaliter mengenai hubungan keluarga secara besar-besaran menjadi lebih mudah dipahami oleh suami dan istri. Akibat perubahan nilai tersebut, pembagian peran dalam rumah tangga menjadi lebih merata dan terstruktur Berdasarkan fenomena tersebut, penelitian ini mengkaji perbedaan antara laki-laki dan perempuan dalam penerapan pembagian kerja dalam kehidupan berkeluarga pada pasangan suami istri di Provinsi Sumatera Utara, Kabupaten Deli Serdang, Kecamatan Deli Tua, Desa Kedai Durian. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa laki-laki dan perempuan mengalami perubahan pemahaman terhadap pembagian pekerjaan rumah tangga dan publik berdasarkan peran gender. Lebih lanjut, penelitian ini juga menunjukkan adanya efek sinergis dalam pembagian kerja gender antara rumah tangga suami istri di Desa Kedai Durian, Kecamatan Deli Tua, Kabupaten Deli Serdang, Provinsi Sumatera Utara. Pembagian Kerja Laki-laki dan perempuan cenderung menghargai keharmonisan dalam menjaga keharmonisan keluarga, baik di rumah maupun di muka umum, serta saling bekerjasama untuk membangun keluarga. Abstract

Abstract The complexity of life and problems in urban areas have given birth to many phenomena of urban society, including the presence of silver men. However, as economic conditions deteriorate, especially due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many people have the initiative to adopt the “silver man style” as an opportunity to earn their personal money. Therefore, this research aims to examine how silver people express art as a form of their freedom space living in urban society. This research is a descriptive qualitative research method. The subjects of this research are silver men who are present in the area Dr.Mansur Street, Medan City. Primary data sources in this study were generated through observations and interviews with silver men. Meanwhile, secondary data was generated by digging up information about silver men in Medan City through book documentation, journals, and internet websites. The technique of data analysis is by conducting an interactive model of data analysis form Miles & Huberman. The results of this study show that urban public space is a place of freedom for silver men in Medan City to show their existence of expression of freedom to the general public. Forms of expression and existence of silver humas in Medan City include silver humans, very free to perform pantonymous forms of attraction and style like robots. Then, silver mens can easily collect money from the results of their labour by performing silver men attractions withput any social structure or environment that suppresses them to express and show their existence in the space of freedom or urban public space. Abstract

MSMEs face challenges in digital marketing that can hinder their economic growth. Therefore, this service activity aims to (1) Provide digital literacy about utilizing social media and product marketing marketplaces (2) Provide knowledge about wisely utilizing digital media. The method used is Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) with a socialization approach and direct assistance to MSME actors. The service was attended by around 25 people and has been carried out well and received positive feedback. The service team teaches how to market through digital media and strengthens the group so that they can play a role according to their respective fields. The service participants enthusiastically listened to the material explanation about digital literacy in the form of utilizing the marketplace platform for marketing their products. This kind of activity is still rarely obtained by the group so that they do not understand about business digitalization. The success factors in this service activity lie in teamwork, the need for information about digital literacy, and support for the implementation of activities from the parties. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factor lies in the limited time to monitor and see the final results of the input material provided. Nevertheless, the potential success of the activity to develop Jaya Bersama MSMEs is quite high. However, in the future, continuous support and assistance is needed to ensure that Jaya Bersama MSME players are able to carry out digital transformation adequately and independently.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of public trust and the social construction of the Pekanbaru City Fire and Rescue Service in responding to both fire and non-fire emergencies in urban society. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with the head of the agency and key informants within the organizational structure, supported by field observations and document analysis. The findings reveal that public trust in the Fire and Rescue Service is shaped through a long dialectical process between citizens’ expectations for rapid emergency response and their perception of the slower responsiveness of other public institutions. Through the processes of externalization, objectification, and internalization, reinforced by daily interactions and social media narratives, the community has constructed the Fire and Rescue Service as a responsive, reliable, and multi-functional institution that is always ready to help. This social construction has expanded the institution’s public role beyond its formal mandate and positioned it as a frontline service in addressing various urban problems. The study concludes that this positive public trust should be understood not merely as an institutional image, but as a sociological reflection of changing urban service expectations. These findings contribute to the study of public trust and social construction in urban public services and provide a reflective basis for strengthening inter-agency responsiveness and service governance.

Abstract

This study analyzes the formation of student identity through a sociometric analysis within the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at the Universitas Riau. The research is motivated by the high level of heterogeneity among students, who come from diverse cultural, regional, religious, and social backgrounds, resulting in a wide variety of social relationship patterns. The objective of the study is to identify the structure of social relationship networks, the position of individuals within the group, and the factors influencing the formation of student identity. The research method employs a quantitative approach using sociometric techniques. The population consists of 150 Sociology students from the Class of 2024, with a sample of 126 respondents obtained through voluntary sampling. Data were collected using a sociometric questionnaire and analyzed through the calculation of the choice status index, the rejection status index, the combined Index (CRS), and the visualization of sociograms. The results of the study indicate that the students' social relationship network is evenly distributed and inclusive, with no individuals completely isolated. Two popular individuals (stars) were identified with codes 91 (CRS=0.05) and 47 (CRS=0.03). There were 31 mutual pairs and several stable small groups (cliques). The primary factors in relationship formation were shared social identities and psychosocial conditions. The research results can be used as a basis for designing student development programs, such as orientation activities, cross-interest study groups, or mentoring programs, to facilitate the formation of a more equitable social network and reduce the potential for relational gaps among students.

Abstract

One of the requirements for graduation is writing a thesis. Choosing the right topic and supervisor is crucial for producing high-quality research. This study analyzes the factors influencing students' choice of thesis topic and supervisor using a qualitative approach. The participants involved in this study consisted of 11 students from the 2022 cohort, without distinguishing gender and other social backgrounds, and were selected purposively, with the criterion of having completed a proposal seminar. The data collection process was conducted through semi-structured interviews that allowed participants to provide in-depth answers and explain their perspectives on the selection of thesis topics and supervisors. Data analysis used thematic analysis to identify patterns that emerged from the participants' responses. The results of this study found that the preferences for selecting thesis topics and supervisors among Sociology students at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Riau University, were greatly influenced by various factors, including the relevance of social issues, the background of the supervisor, and a good supervisory approach. Students tend to choose topics that are trendy in line with current developments and want support from lecturers who have an emotional connection with students and are experienced in their chosen field.
