Abstract

This conceptual review synthesises and critically analyses recent literature on Design-Based Learning (DBL) in undergraduate engineering education. It examines how DBL is defined, how it is implemented and assessed, what strengths and recurring challenges are reported, and what these imply for teaching, programmes, and future research. A document-based search in Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar identified English, peer-reviewed studies published between 2018 and 2024; a small number of earlier design-oriented works were retained to anchor key concepts. The review shows that DBL is characterised by iteration on an authentic design brief, structured reflection, and collaboration, and that when these elements and their assessment are explicit, DBL supports student engagement, problem solving, and the early formation of engineering identity. It also notes implementation problems across settings, especially heavy assessment load, limited opportunity for multiple iterations within fixed timetables, and team tasks that reproduce participation hierarchies. By isolating DBL’s pedagogical identity from related approaches such as PBL and CBL, the review offers a balanced account and proposes an E–I–P–R alignment and a research agenda for longitudinal, multi-site, moderator-sensitive studies.

Abstract

Intense competition in digital banking services demands the optimization of User Experience (UX); however, the UX quality across mobile banking applications has not yet been comprehensively mapped. This study conducts a comparative analysis of mobile banking applications in Indonesia through a preliminary observation using a purposive sampling technique. The evaluation was carried out using the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) to measure six UX dimensions, with reliability testing confirming that the instrument was reliable. The results show all applications achieved positive scores across the six UEQ dimensions. BRImo (BRI) ranked highest overall, particularly in the efficiency (2.225) and dependability (2.188) dimensions, BNI Mobile Banking excelled in the novelty dimension, with the highest score (2.088). In addition, BNI Mobile Banking recorded higher efficiency (2.113) and dependability (1.913) scores compared to Livin’ by Mandiri and BCA Mobile. Meanwhile, BCA Mobile outperformed Livin’ by Mandiri in the perspicuity (1.988) and stimulation (1.925) dimensions, whereas Livin’ by Mandiri only surpassed BNI Mobile Banking and BCA Mobile in the attractiveness dimension (1.900). However, the results of the Kruskal–Wallis test indicate that the differences in scores among the applications were not statistically significant. Based on the global UEQ benchmark, all four applications demonstrate very good UX quality, predominantly in the excellent category. BRImo is the only application that achieved the excellent category across all dimensions, while Livin’ by Mandiri obtained two dimensions in the good category, followed by BNI Mobile Banking and BCA Mobile, each with one dimension in the good category.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the User Experience (UX) of the Undiknas Mobile application, developed to enhance the academic experience of students at Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas). The primary focus of this study is to identify the factors that influence user satisfaction and dissatisfaction, as well as determine the areas that need improvement to enhance the application's UX quality. The research employs the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) as the primary tool to assess six key dimensions of user interaction: Attractiveness, Perspicuity, Efficiency, Dependability, Stimulation, and Novelty. Data were collected from 309 respondents, consisting of students from the 2021 cohort of Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas), specifically those in their final semester with more experience in using mobile applications. The respondents were selected to ensure that the data collected is valid and representative. The results show that the application achieved average scores of 1.20 for Attractiveness, 1.34 for Perspicuity, and 1.19 for Stimulation, all of which indicate above-average ratings. However, the Efficiency aspect received a lower score of 0.82, and Novelty scored only 0.73, suggesting that these areas need improvement, particularly in enhancing the app’s speed and adding innovative features. These findings indicate that improving the UX design, with a focus on boosting speed and introducing new features, could significantly enhance user satisfaction and engagement. This research provides valuable contributions to the development of digital academic services in Indonesian higher education, offering insights that can be applied to improve the mobile application's interface and functionality.
