Abstract

Integrating local content into learning is important for connecting the material to students' daily lives, especially in science education. The use of local knowledge can enhance students' understanding and appreciation, but its application still varies across different schools. This study aims to analyze primary school science teachers' understanding of the application of local content in science learning and to evaluate the extent to which this is applied in lesson planning in East Lombok Regency. Additionally, this research also identifies the constraints encountered in its implementation. This study uses a descriptive qualitative design with data collection methods including questionnaires, observation, RPP analysis, and in-depth interviews to explore understanding, perspectives, and challenges related to the implementation of local content. The integration of local content into science learning in five primary schools and madrasahs in East Lombok remains limited, with only about 18% of grade 5 and 11% of grade 6 material covering local contexts. The main discussion points include limited resources, lack of training, and a rigid curriculum. Reliance on standard textbooks and national policies also hinders the adaptation of materials to the local context. The integration of local content into science learning remains low. Professional development for teachers, increased curriculum flexibility, and the provision of appropriate resources are necessary. Future research could explore strategies to strengthen the integration of local knowledge in science learning.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze the validity and readability of a deep learning–based electronic module (e-module) designed to improve students’ critical thinking skills on global warming material. Methodology: The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, consisting of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The developed e-module integrates deep learning principles—mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning—into a Google Sites platform and is enriched with multimedia elements, including videos, animations, interactive worksheets, Padlet, and a carbon footprint calculator. The validity of the e-module was evaluated by six experts, including media experts, subject matter experts, and linguists, using Aiken’s V formula. Main Findings: The results showed that all validation aspects achieved Aiken’s V values ranging from 0.83 to 1.00, exceeding the minimum validity threshold (V > 0.78), indicating that the e-module is highly valid. Readability testing involved ten junior high school students and two science teachers and was analyzed using percentage-based criteria. The readability scores ranged from 88% to 100%, categorized as excellent across content, format, presentation, and language aspects. These findings indicate that the deep learning–based e-module is not only valid but also highly readable and user-friendly. Novelty/Originality of this study: The developed e-module has strong potential to be implemented as an innovative digital teaching material to support science learning and foster students’ critical thinking skills, particularly in addressing contextual and global environmental issues such as global warming.

Abstract

Earlier research reported that GABA had a correlation with diabetes in processes of glucose homeostasis. This study aims to identify the validity of B-receptor Rattus norvegicus as GABA protein target, modeling the structure and knowing the binding affinity between GABA and B-receptor Rattus norvegicus through molecular docking.   The research was carried out using in-silico method.  The interaction of GABA with the target protein was determined using SuperPred, followed by modeling the protein target using SwissadMe. Ramachandran Plot and Errat Procheck are used to determine the validity of the protein target. Molecular docking was determined using Pyrx and PyMol. The results showed that GABA binding to the B- receptor Rattus norvegicus has biological activity as glucose oxidase inhibitor and antidiabetic.  The conclusion are: B-receptor Rattus norvegicus is a valid protein target for binding to GABA; there are four 3-dimensional models of B-receptor Rattus norvegicus and the best model has 98.43% sequence identity; the binding affinity of GABA (ligand) on B-receptor Rattus norvegicus from the best model is -3.4 kcal/mol energy, 1.773 RMSD lower bound, and 1.81 RMSD upper bound. It is suggested that this research might be used as an empirical basis to further investigate GABA as antidiabetic.

This study uses a Research and Development (R&D) design which adapts the 4-D model development research design from Thiagarajan, et al. which includes 4 stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. However, the research is only done up to the develop stage (3-D). This development research begins with field observations and literature study, then developed with the initial design of the module. The initial design of the module is then validated by material experts, media experts, developing education and peer reviews. Furthermore, a limited trial was carried out involving 10 students as research subjects. The data technique was carried out through observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. The analysis technique uses quantitative analysis of the acquisition of module feasibility validation scores and descriptive analysis. The results showed that the SETS (Science, Environment, Technology, and Society) module light and optical properties for grade VIII in junior high school were measured as very valid criteria based on validation results, from the validation we conclude that the module is suitable for use in science learning.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a new educational space and an integral part of the rapid development of education and technology in today's modern era. However, the use of AI faces various problems and obstacles, including in biology education, which has been exposed to the effects of AI as a current learning mechanism. The purpose of this study is to explore and investigate teachers' and students' perspectives on the integration of AI in biology education and to understand its opportunities and challenges. This study adopts a qualitative method, conducting a survey administered to biology teachers and three classes under their supervision (n = 96 students) at one high school in Surakarta. The analysis instrument, in the form of a questionnaire designed with applied questions, was used as an evaluation framework to analyze teachers' and students' perspectives on the integration of AI in biology education. The research findings revealed that teachers and students share similar perspectives on the opportunities and challenges of utilizing AI in biology education. This finding identified opportunities such as effectiveness, time efficiency, and personalized learning as the main factors enabling the adoption of AI in biology education. The study also addressed various challenges faced, including ethical issues related to AI use, the decline in critical thinking skills due to overreliance on AI among students, and the limited AI literacy skills among teachers. The study emphasizes the importance of accommodative activities such as socialization and training in the use of artificial intelligence in biology education as a synergistic effort to foster a positive attitude in preparing teachers and students to adapt and innovate in the era of AI transformation.
