Abstract

The aim of this research was to identify some characters of mangrove gastropod’s shell, which varied among species and modified from its basic structure. Some characters are often lost or added make some difficulties for the student to identify the characters. Those characters are also confusing and lead to missidentification respectively. From that case, studying the variation of the shell characters among species and its modification from the original structure of gastropod's shell is needed. A model and description of the shell and its characters is useful guide for identification and also as an  alternative teaching material for studying the gastropod.Mangrove gastropod's specimens from previous research ( Karyanto et al. 2003) are the materials studied on; represent the numerous variation and modification of gastropod's shell. The basic structures are identified according to Robert et al (1982), Pechenik (1991) and Beeslev et al (1998). Variation and modification whether reduction or addition from its original were then mentioned and schemed. The shells of the 9 families of gastropod show some specific features, which respective to the shell structure offamily, thus the identification to the family can be carried out by using the shell characters offamily. Some characters that lead to the genera and species are more various and sophisticate. Axial ridges, transversal ridges, eroded apex, elongated siphonal canal, spine, thickened aperture, the presence of the aperture teeth, thickening operculum with calcareous material and coloration are some variant that obtained. Those characters reflect modification and play some important notes while studying the shell

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the feasibility of the items of the four-tier multiple-choice test immune system instrument that had been developed. The development of the instrument using the Treagust (1988) model, namely defining content, collecting student misconceptions information, and developing a diagnostic test. A total of 25 items have been developed. The results of the instrument development were tested on 142 students of grade XI from several high schools in Surakarta who were selected by simple random sampling. The data analysis technique was performed using Rasch analysis in the Winstep application. The results of the construct validity test showed items number 5, 7, and 9 did not fit the validity standards. The reliability test shows that the value of Cronbach Alpha reliability is bad (n = 0.51), the value of the reliability item is special (no = 0.97), the value of person reliability is sufficient (n = 0.68), the value of person separation is weak (n = 1.44), and the item separation value is special (n = 5.38). The person discrimination test showed student 056P31 has the highest ability and student 098P51 has the lowest ability. The item discrimination test shows item number 1 is the best item and the bad item is number 14. The item difficulty analysis showed less proportionality because there were too many items in the easy and difficult categories. An expansion of the sample is needed to see a more comprehensive and diverse range of responses to instruments.

Abstract

The abundant volume of coffee bean pulp as a  by-product of the post-harvest processing is an important source of soil organic matter if it is properly handled. The alternative way to use coffee bean pulp waste to reduce the impact of environmental pollution is composting. This study aims to determine the ability of actinomycetes to degrade coffee pulp, to identify the physical and chemical characteristics of coffee pulp compost, and to evaluate the effect of coffee pulp compost on chili plant growth. The results showed that 7 isolates of actinomycetes were able to hydrolyze coffee pulp in vitro with a hydrolytic index of 1.7-3.81. The treatment of coffee pulp compost with the addition of a starter of cellulolytic actinomycetes (P2) at the end of the three-week incubation period showed the highest organic N (25 mg/kg), P (7.05 mg/kg), and K (33 mg/kg), t compared to other treatments. The effect of giving coffee pulp compost towards the growth of chili plants shows that  the coffee pulp composted with zeolite 5% (w/w) increased the height of the chili plants by 37.6%, while in coffee pulp composted by cellulolytic actinomycetes 5% (v/w) increased the number of leaves by 96% and plant biomass by 25%.  Based on the results of this research, coffee pulp compost has the potential to be used as biological fertilizer to increase plant growth, both composted by zeolite and cellulolytic actinomycetes
