Abstract

This study aimed to explore in depth the strategic role of school library management in supporting the development of literacy and critical thinking skills of students. This study was conducted through a comprehensive literature study, by analyzing various scientific sources such as academic journals, reference books, and relevant national education policy documents. The results of the study indicate that school libraries that are managed professionally and systematically are able to become effective learning resource centers, and make significant contributions to creating a conducive literary environment for active learning and the development of high-level thinking. Several managerial aspects that have been proven to have an important role include the management of relevant and actual collections, the use of information technology in library services, and increasing the capacity and competence of librarians as literacy facilitators. With proper management, the library not only functions as a place to store books, but also as a learning space that supports the achievement of 21st century education goals, especially in fostering students' information literacy and critical thinking skills. These findings emphasize the need to strengthen the function of libraries in the education ecosystem through supportive policies and managerial practices that are adaptive to the times.

Abstract

Collocation is challenging for translators as the words differ across languages. This study examines collocation errors in translations produced by English Department students who took the Indonesian-English Translations subject. The text discussed the Minangkabau tradition written in Indonesian. Employing a corpus-based approach, the research analyzes students' translations to identify recurring collocational mismatches, classify error types, and first-language (L1) interference in English as an L2, which is studied in terms of the insufficient mastery of English phraseology. The translations made by English Department students were compiled from student submissions and compared against reference corpora (e.g., COCA, BNC) as natural collocations. Tools such as AntConc and Kortara were used to quantify deviations and categorize errors into four primary types: (1) verb-noun, (2) adjective-noun mismatches, (3) unnatural noun-noun phrases, (4) adverb-adjective, (5) verb-preposition, and (6) clause base. Findings reveal that 58.94% of errors arise from noun-noun combinations, where students applied Indonesian syntactic or lexical patterns to English, resulting in unnatural collocations. The study highlights the pedagogical need for explicit collocation instruction in translation training, especially for language pairs with significant structural and cultural differences. It advocates for incorporating corpus tools into classrooms to enhance students’ awareness of natural collocations and reduce L1 interference.

Abstract

Linguistic politeness in everyday conversations is crucial for maintaining social relationships. However, in the context of digital media, particularly podcasts, linguistic politeness is often overlooked or unnoticed. The podcast Curhat Bang Denny Sumargo has become one of the platforms that feature informal conversations with various verbal expressions that can influence the understanding of linguistic politeness. This study aims to analyze expressive speech acts in the podcast and examine how linguistic politeness is applied in conversations between guests with specific social relationships. The method used is a qualitative approach with a corpus linguistics approach, and data is obtained from transcripts of episodes selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was done by listening to and transcribing each selected episode, and then analyzing it using expressive speech act theory, speech strategies, and the politeness principles of Brown and Levinson. The research results show that linguistic politeness in this podcast is greatly influenced by the social context and the relationships between the guests, as well as the expressive expressions used in different communication situations. In conclusion, this study reveals that expressive speech acts in the podcast provide insights into the application of linguistic politeness in digital media, which is often more relaxed and informal compared to face-to-face conversations.

Abstract

Politeness in language is essential for fostering respectful communication and social harmony, particularly within cultural and religious contexts, yet its role in Islamic education remains underexplored. This study examines how the Mandailing Onang-Onang oral tradition encapsulates linguistic politeness strategies that reflect Islamic values and explores its potential contribution to Islamic education. Employing a qualitative ethnographic approach, the research utilizes participant observation, in-depth interviews with cultural practitioners, and analysis of recorded Onang-Onang performances framed through Brown and Levinson's politeness theory. The findings reveal that Onang-Onang employs key politeness strategies, such as indirectness, honorifics, and metaphorical expressions, which align with Islamic ethical principles of morality (akhlaq) and etiquette (adab). Furthermore, the study underscores the role of Onang-Onang in reinforcing communal ties and transmitting religious teachings. Integrating Onang-Onang into Islamic educational frameworks can enrich moral instruction, preserve cultural heritage, and strengthen learners' understanding of Islamic values, demonstrating its relevance in contemporary pedagogical settings.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilakukan di Nagari Pungguang Kasiak Kecamatan Lubuk Alung. Tujuan dari diadakannya kegiatan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan partisipasi masyarakat dalam mengelola potensi nagari yang dimiliki. Kegiatan dilakukan melibatkan seluruh para pejabat wali nagari beserta perangkatnya dengan tujuan untuk menambah wawasan dan meningkatkan hubungan kemitraan Selain itu menggali potensi yang dimiliki oleh nagari dan meningkatkan keterlibatan masyarakat dalam pembangunan nagari. Materi pelatihan yang diberikan beragam, seperti (1) perencanaan pembangunan nagari, arah kebijakan pembangunan nagari (2)Proses merintis dalam pengelolaan potensi nagari dan (3) Desa wisata. Diharapkan dengan adanya kegiatan pengabdian ini dapat meningkatkan pembangunan nagari melalui dana desa melalui partisipasi masyarakat dan dapat memberikan manfaat yang optimal bagi kemandirian nagari sesuai dengan tujuan Dana Desa pada UU no 6 Tahun 2014. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah (1) masyarakat mengetahui bahwa nagarinya memiliki potensi yang bisa dikembangkan (2) masyarakat mengetahui langkah-langkah dalam merintis, mengelola dan memanfaatkan potensi nagari yang dimiliki (3) masyarakat bisa meninjau langsung ke nagari yang sudah berhasil dalam memanfaatkan potensi yang dimiliki oleh nagarinya seperti Air terjun nyarai dan LA Rafting

Abstract

Kesatunan berbahasa lebih menyorot aspek kesantunan yang dikaitkan dengan makna, maupun prinsip kesantunan. Cara orang menggunakan bahasa untuk berkomunikasi selalu berubah sesuai dengan konteks sosial, ruang, dan waktu. Saat ini, banyak orang menggunakan media sosial sebagai sarana untuk berkomunikasi karena perkembangan teknologi komunikasi Pengguna bahasa tersebut yang menerapkan prinsip kesantunan. Podcast menjadi salah satu proyek menarik di YouTube. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif analisis. Data dalam penelitian ini berasal dari tuturan lisan dalam podcast. Sedangkan sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah podcast Denny Sumargo edisi 26 April 2023 dengan topik Mama Di Guna-Guna, Mahalini, Beda Agama⁉ Semua Duka Mendalam Rizky Febian‼. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini menggunakan metode simak. Pematuhan prinsip kesantunan berbahasa dalam penelitian ini ditemukan enam maksim, yaitu Maksim Kearifan 12 tuturan, Maksim Kedermawaan 7 tuturan, Maksim Pujian 3 tuturan, Maksim Kerendahan hati 7 tuturan, Maksim Kesepakatan 8 tuturan, Maksim Simpati 11 tuturan. Sementara itu, pelanggaran prinsip kesantunan dalam penelitian ini juga ditemukan empat maksim, yaitu maksim kearifan 1 tuturan, maksim kedermawaan 5 tuturan, dan maksim simpati 1 tuturan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pematuhan terhadap prinsip kesantunan berbahasa dalam podcast Denny Sumargo cenderung dominan, terutama pada maksim kearifan dan simpati.

Abstract

The implementation of e-learning systems has resulted in new forms of pedagogical compulsion. The lack of planning stunned the lecturer, who may have taken impulsive moves to set up a range of media for their online sessions. This article explores the potential of digital technology to revitalize the Islamic University of Riau in English learning facilities and improve student learning outcomes. This study applies descriptive and qualitative research techniques to activate the opportunities contained in mobile applications for the benefit of learning English. Participants in this study were 25 ESP of second-semester law students at the Islamic University of Riau. Data were collected in two stages taking notes and a questionnaire to ascertain the extent of the study's outcomes and to explore Lecturer facilities and controls implemented in learning English through asynchronous learning with mobile learning. Findings show that reviving WhatsApp by offering student-planned activities improves students' English proficiency. The result was to create activities that encourage students to take a positive role and encourage their courage to speak English because the WhatsApp application can support activities and prepare students to take an active role.

Abstract

This study aims to develop the theory of linguistics and find out the use of the figures speech contained in snack advertisements and to assist students in achieving the optimal learning objectives so that they are proficient in determining themes, using appropriate diction and figure of speech and interesting forms of writing in writing advertisement. This was a qualitative study using descriptive methods. The research data were in the form of advertisement texts spoken by the advertising stars and the line's slogan. Data were collected by using the method of listening to the note-taking technique. An interactive analysis model was used to analyze the data. The data validation in the form of a triangulation technique was used in this study. The findings showed that there were thirty advertisements for snacks and one hundred and forty-five data containing non-comparative figures of speech. The most dominant type of non-comparative figure of speech was ninety-seven hyperboles. Thus, it can be concluded that there are several important things from the research results, namely the use of other figures of speech, the form of a figure of speech, and the meaning of non-comparative figures of speech in snack advertisements on Indonesian television.

Abstract

Guru PAUD harus dapaat memahami dan mengaplikasikan pembelajaran berdiferensiasi dan profil Pancasila sesuai tuntutan kurikulum merdeka. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana guru PAUD menggali dan menganalisis persepsi guru pendidikan anak usia dini terhadap pembelajaran diferensiasi profil Pancasila dalam Kurikulum Merdeka. Pembelajaran berdiferensiasi dalam PAUD adalah melalui bermain secara eksplorasi, bermain konstruksi, bermain peran, bermain games, bermain menstimulasi. Dalam pembelajaran diferensiasi Profil Pancasila mengembangkan kognitif, psikomotorik, dan afektif anak yang disesuaikan dengan minat, bakat, dan disesuaikan dengan peserta didik. Studi kasus ini menggunakan metodologi kualitatif deskriptif. Penelitian  ini memanfaatkan analisis Miles & Huberman. Penelitian ini melibatkan 30 guru PAUD, dengan 5 guru PAUD sebagai sampel. Metode purposive sampling digunakan untuk melakukan penelitian ini. Metode pengumpulan data yang melibatkan wawancara dan a ngket Penelitian ini menemukan dan menyimpulkan bahwa pandangan guru PAUD tentang pembelajaran diferensiasi profil pancasila dalam kurikulum merdeka adalah untuk memahami betapa pentingnya materi yang terkait dengan lingkungan belajar yang berkualitas.

Abstract

Universitas dapat mengevaluasi apakah laboratorium bahasa digunakan secara optimal oleh dosen dan mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memaparkan pemanfaatan laboratorium bahasa sebagai fasilitas pembelajaran bahasa di Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. Penelitian deskriptif ini dilaksanakan dari bulan Maret sampai Juni dua ribu dua puluh empat dengan menggunakan lembar observasi dan wawancara kepada pihak yang terkait di laboratorium bahasa Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. Data yang terkumpul dianalasis secara deskriptif dengan menggunakan trianggulasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fasilitas yang ada di laboratorium bahasa Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai sudah tersedia perangkat keras dan lunak yang lengkap. Yang terdiri dari empat puluh komputer mahasiswa dan satu komputer dosen. Selain itu dilengkapi dengan headphone, microphone, TV LED. Beberapa perangkat lunak terdiri dari aplikasi pembelajaran TOEFL dan CAT yang dilengkapi dengan akses internet yang kuat. Laboratorium bahasa ini dimanfaatkan untuk proses pembelajaran bahasa. Selain itu juga digunakan dalam penyelenggaraan webinar dan perlu ditingkatkan. Pemanfaatan laboratorium bahasa sangat bermanfaat bagi civitas akademika. Secara keseluruhan, laboratorium bahasa di Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai telah berfungsi dengan baik dan memberikan kontribusi positif bagi pembelajaran bahasa di lingkungan universitas.
