Abstract

Global and multicultural education is a crucial element in addressing the issues of the globalization period. This article examines the principles, obstacles, and remedies of implementing global and multicultural education. A qualitative method and literature evaluation reveal that global education equips students to engage in critical thinking and ethical action within an international framework. Simultaneously, multicultural education underscores the significance of inclusivity and reverence for cultural diversity. Case studies from Finland, Singapore, and Canada demonstrate their efficacy in incorporating this education into the national curriculum. Nonetheless, cultural hostility, insufficient teacher preparation, and economic disparity among nations persist as substantial impediments. Proposed solutions encompass the creation of flexible curricula, rigorous teacher training, international cooperation, and community education initiatives. This essay contends that global and multicultural education cultivates internationally competitive individuals while fostering the establishment of a just and inclusive society.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Head injury is a medical condition affecting various individuals around the world and is characterized by high mortality and morbidity rates. Several studies have shown that accurate management and appropriate interventions are required to achieve favorable outcomes. In this context, head CT scan has been reported to be the gold standard in diagnostic imaging for patients with head injury. In addition, head CT scan can be used to evaluate basal cistern, which is an area around the brain with a significant role in consciousness due to its close association with the brainstem. Several factors are known to influence prognosis of head injury treatment, including age, gender, severity of head injury, type of bleeding lesion, and the condition of basal cistern, which play a crucial role in the outcome of patients care. Therefore, this study aims to determine the role of basal cistern as a predictor of prognosis in cases of head injury. Subject and Method: The study procedures were carried out using the prospective observational method, and the sample population comprised 67 head injury patients at Ulin Regional General Hospital (RSUD) from February to April in 2024. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 60 patients were selected as participants, and their primary data were collected. Subsequently, each variable's data was analyzed using SPSS with Chi-square and Spearman correlation tests. Results: Significant differences were observed between various variables, including 1) the type of bleeding lesion and the condition of basal cistern (p-value: 0.004), 2) action (surgery and non-surgery) and prognosis (p-value: 0.017), and 3) prognosis and the condition of basal cistern (p-value: 0.0001). Conclusion: Based on the results, basal cistern could be used as a predictor of prognosis in patients with head injury. In addition, the severity of head injury was closely related to the condition of basal cistern. The more severe head injury, the worse prognosis for patients. The results also showed that the type of bleeding lesion affected the condition of basal cistern

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of the discovery learning model on students' mathematical communication skills and learning habits in junior high school. Motivated by low mathematical communication abilities and limited use of varied teaching methods, this research aims to assess learning outcomes, the effect of discovery learning, and students' study habits. Using an experimental design (One Group post-test design), 26 seventh-grade students from SMP Negeri 2 Cinangka were selected via simple random sampling. Data were collected through a mathematical communication skills test (5 questions) and a learning habits questionnaire. Prerequisite tests (normality and homogeneity) and hypothesis testing (Independent Sample t-test) were conducted for analysis. Results revealed that the experimental class achieved an average mathematical communication score of 66.83, compared to 60.00 in the control class. Hypothesis testing showed a significant effect (p = 0.04 < α = 0.05). Additionally, the learning habits questionnaire indicated a 65% positive response. The findings demonstrate that the discovery learning model significantly enhances students' mathematical communication skills and fosters strong study habits. This study highlights the effectiveness of discovery learning in improving educational outcomes and suggests its potential for broader application in mathematics education.

Abstract

The prevalence of prostate cancer cases in men is expected to continue increase. In 2040, it is estimated that there will be 2.293.818 new cases and a 1.05% increase in the death rate due to prostate cancer. Eurycoma longifolia Jack roots extract (ELE) has potential as an alternative treatment. This study aims to analyze ELE potential as an anti-prostate cancer agent through in silico assay and in vitro assays on the prostate cancer cell line (PC-3). ELE compounds were docked against Casp-3, Casp-8, HAX-1, p27, and PTEN. In vitro assays on PC-3 cells were used, namely cell viability (WST-8), ROS levels; cell cycle; and cell apoptosis (flow cytometry), PC-3 cell senescence (μ-Galactosidase staining), Casp-3; Casp-8; HAX-1; p27; and PTEN gene expression (qRT-PCR). All proteins target were successfully docked with ELE compounds and presented binding interactions. ELE is known to reduce viability, intracellular ROS levels, live cells, necrosis, and reduce HAX-1 gene expression, and inhibit the cell cycle G0/G1 phase. ELE can also increase inhibition, senescence, late and early apoptosis, and Casp-3, Casp-8, p27, and PTEN gene expression. ELE 100 μg/mL is the most effective concentration. ELE has potential as an anti-prostate cancer agent through apoptosis, cell cycle, and antioxidant pathways
