Abstract

Test content-based proof of validity is a type of evidence that supports the validity of a measuring instrument. This research aims to develop a mathematical problem-solving assessment instrument utilizing five experts. This study is classified as developmental research and follows a research design that includes two separate stages: the preliminary design stage and the prototype stage. However, its application is restricted to Prototype 1 and Prototype 2, specifically for expert evaluation. This instrument was designed explicitly for grade VIII students studying mathematics, covering all the topics from the odd semesters. The analysis progressed through three distinct stages "” curriculum analysis, content analysis, and context analysis "” each contributing to a comprehensive understanding of instructional resources. The study sought to narrow the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in mathematics education by incorporating real-world context. Surveys have revealed difficulties in answering mathematical problems, highlighting the need to address gaps in learning to improve competency. The careful and thorough construction of test instruments, considering factors such as validity, established the foundation for creating accurate assessment tools. The content validity assessment by the expert panel, with scores ranging from 0.817 to 0.884 based on the V-Aiken category, confirms that the instrument is vital in assessing students' mathematical problem -solving skills, and the implementation of this study yielded many valuable insights for educators and academics. Abstract

The Role of Ethnomathematical Context in Geometric Reasoning: A Van Hiele-Based Analysis of Indonesian Seventh-Graders. Objective: This study aims to analyze students' geometric thinking skills on plane geometry material based on Van Hiele's theory. An ethnomathematics approach was employed, focusing on the geometric patterns and shapes found in the ornaments, windows, and domes of local mosques, which serve as representations of plane geometry. This study is intended to describe the profile of students' thinking levels and the difficulties that arise at each stage of geometric thinking, without testing the improvement or influence of specific interventions. Methods: The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach with 22 eighth-grader students from a public junior high school in Majalengka Regency, Indonesia, as participants. The instruments used included a diagnostic test based on Van Hiele's theory and unstructured interviews to explore students' reasoning patterns. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis through the stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, and validated through triangulation between test and interview results. Classification of thinking levels was carried out by matching students' answers and explanations to the indicators of each Van Hiele level. Findings: The study's results showed a significant decline in the achievement of each level of geometric thinking. All students reached the visualization stage; 81.8% reached the analysis stage, 22.7% reached informal deduction, and only 9.09% reached formal deduction, while no students reached the rigor stage. The sharp decline from the analysis to the deduction stage indicates students' limited ability to connect the properties of shapes and reason logistically. Interviews revealed that the local cultural context facilitated the visualization of shapes, but did not fully encourage higher deductive abilities. Conclusion: Students’ geometric thinking skills are primarily at the stages of visualization and analysis. The use of ethnomathematical contexts has the potential to act as an early cognitive bridge, facilitating students’ recognition of shapes and their properties. Compared to standard geometry problems, ethnomathematical problems better facilitate initial conceptual understanding through their connection to students’ cultural experiences, but their contribution to formal deduction remains limited. Keywords: geometric thinking skills, van hiele's theory, ethnomathematics.

Abstract

Students' low mathematical creative thinking skills are the motivation for this study. The aim of this research is to develop context-based student worksheets (LKPD) that assess high school students' mathematical creative thinking abilities. This study uses the ADDIE development model with five stages (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), and the research is limited to the implementation stage. The subjects were Grade X students of SMAN 2 Majalengka. The instruments used included practicality questionnaires for teachers and students, validity questionnaires for media and material experts, and effectiveness tests through small-scale trials. A Likert scale was used to collect practicality and validity data, while N-gain analysis was applied to measure effectiveness. The results showed that LKPD with a contextual approach was valid, with an average material expert score of 3.17 and media expert score of 3.50. The practicality was also very good, with teacher practicality at 96.15% and student practicality at 87.26%. The average effectiveness was in the moderate category with an N-gain value of 0.38. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the developed LKPD is feasible, practical, and effective in improving students’ mathematical creative thinking skills. The contribution of this research lies in providing empirically tested, context-based LKPD that can be used as an innovative learning resource to foster mathematical creative thinking in high school students.

Abstract

Indonesian pupils need help solving problems, particularly in mathematics, due to the need for practice questions with the higher-order thinking (HOT) type. This research aims to develop a reliable and valid tool for assessing students' higher-order thinking skills in mathematics. Developing a test involves gathering requirements, creating questions, assessing answers, running trials, analyzing data, making adjustments, and finally putting everything together. The instrument trial was conducted at SMAN at Majalengka, West Java. The total number of test subjects was 32 students. Research data were collected using a description test. The test instrument consists of 10 descriptions, but only 6 had good validity based on the value of V on the V-Aiken. In addition, the test package produces reliable questions based on Cronbach's Alpha scores. The test results of the instrument showed that the HOTS of mathematics for Grade X students was good. This step provides an overview to teachers in designing valid and relevant instruments.

Abstract

This study analyzes the distribution of characteristics and factors associated with hypertension among menopausal women in the Teluk Tiram Health Center area. Hypertension is a significant health issue affecting postmenopausal women, yet local evidence from community-based health care in Indonesia is limited. A cross-sectional design was used, involving 105 menopausal women. Data collection included structured surveys assessing age at menopause, Body Mass Index (BMI), physical activity, stress levels, sleep quality, and history of hormonal contraceptive use. Bivariate analysis, utilizing chi-square tests, along with multivariate analysis through logistic regression, was conducted to identify associated factors. The findings indicated that early menopause, high BMI, low physical activity, elevated stress levels, poor sleep quality, and a history of combined hormonal contraceptive use were significantly related to hypertension. Multivariate analysis further identified BMI as the most influential factor, succeeded by low physical activity and high stress levels. These results underscore the importance of weight management, promotion of physical activity, and stress reduction strategies to lower the risk of hypertension in menopausal women. Ultimately, this research emphasizes the multifactorial nature of hypertension during menopause and calls for comprehensive prevention strategies in primary care settings.

Abstract

Purpose – Mathematics is a foundational subject essential to daily life and professional practice; however, many students perceive it as difficult and uninteresting due to rigid rules and complex procedures, which often lead to a fear of mathematics. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Vedic Mathematics (VM) training in improving students’ mathematical performance and attitudes toward mathematics. Methodology – An experimental research design was employed involving 146 undergraduate students from business management and commerce programs. Participants were divided into an experimental group and a control group using a non-random sampling technique. The experimental group received one week of Vedic Mathematics training focused on mental calculation strategies, while the control group followed conventional instructional methods. Data were collected using timed pre-test and post-test assessments to measure mathematical performance, along with a self-developed questionnaire to assess mathematics phobia and interest. Data analysis was conducted by comparing pre- and post-test results between groups. Findings – Students who received Vedic Mathematics training demonstrated improved calculation speed and accuracy, increased interest in mathematics, and reduced mathematics phobia compared to the control group. These results indicate that VM training positively influences both cognitive performance and affective attitudes toward mathematics. Novelty – This study contributes empirical evidence on the effectiveness of Vedic Mathematics as an alternative instructional approach in higher education, particularly in addressing affective barriers in mathematics learning. Significance – The findings are beneficial for educators, curriculum developers, and higher education institutions seeking instructional strategies to enhance students’ mathematical proficiency, confidence, and engagement.
