Abstract

This research aims to assess the performance of native chickens fed with rucah fish meal (RFM) as a substitute for fish meal (FM). A total of 200 native chickens, aged 1 day, were maintained for 8 weeks and divided into 20 experimental units with five treatments and four replications. The treatments included substituting fish meal in the ration with rucah fish meal at various levels: P0= 12% FM and 0% RFM, P1= 9% FM and 3% RFM, P2= 6% FM and 6% RFM, P3= 3% FM and 9% RFM, and P4= 0% FM and 12% RFM. A completely randomized design was used with a coefficient of variation for initial body weight of 2.37%. Parameters measured included feed consumption, body weight, carcass percentage, and feed conversion ratio. The results showed that replacing fish meal with rucah fish meal did not significantly affect (P0.05) feed consumption but significantly increased (P0.05) chicken body weight and improved feed conversion ratio. It was concluded that fish meal can be replaced up to 100% with rucah fish meal (12% in the ration) to improve native chicken performance.

Abstract

Plantation waste, such as bagasse, is an alternative substitute for wood shavings as a litter for broiler chickens. However, it is difficult for bagasse to release moisture, so an absorbent material is needed to improve the quality of litter that is prone to moisture. This study aimed to determine the effects of the use of an absorbent from bark biochar on bagasse litter quality and the weight of the digestive organs of broiler chickens. This study used 200 Lohmann strain broiler chicks. The feeds used consisted of 2 types, namely, BR-1 and BR-2. The thickness of the litter spread in each treatment was 5 cm, and the amount given was based on the bulk density of the litter material (kg/m3). There were 5 levels of biochar as an adsorbent for bagasse litter: P-0: 0% biochar (control); P-1: 5% biochar; P-2: 10% biochar; P-3: 15% biochar; and P-4: 20% biochar. A completely randomized design (CRD) was used in the experimental design. The results of the analysis of variance revealed that the addition of biochar had no significant effect on the litter moisture, feed intake, slaughter weight, or digestive organ weight of broiler chickens. It was concluded that the addition of biochar as an absorbent up to 20% in bagasse litter did not affect the weight of the digestive organs of broiler chickens.

Abstract

Background: The nutritional quality of animal feed is the most important factor when using and selecting animal feed ingredients. One of the determinants of the quality of feed ingredients or rations is looking at the retention of feed substances, namely how much feed substances are retained in the digestive tract, efforts to improve and optimize the retention of feed substances by adding feed additive such as turmeric flour and black garlic.  Purpose: This study aims to see how turmeric flour is used in rations containing black garlic on crude fat retention in broiler chickens.  Methods: This study used 200 DOC of broiler chickens strain MB 202 and was designed by a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replicates. The treatments consisted of P0 = 100% commercial ration (control), P1 = P0 + 3% black garlic, P2 = P1 + 0.5% turmeric flour, P3 = P1 + 1% turmeric flour, P4 = P1 + 1.5% turmeric flour. The variables observed in this study were dry matter retention, organic matter retention, and crude fat retention. Data were processed using analysis of variance and Duncan's multiple range test followed the significant effect. Results: The results showed that the use of turmeric flour in rations containing black garlic had a significant increase (P<0.05) in dry matter consumption and organic matter consumption but had no significant effect (P>0.05) on excretion and retention of dry matter, organic matter, and crude fat. Conclusion: From the results of this study it can be concluded that the use of turmeric flour up to 1.5% in rations containing 3% black garlic can be used without any adverse effect on the retention of crude fat in the digestive tract.
