Abstract

Background: Low rates of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia remain a public health issue due to mothers' lack of knowledge and positive attitudes towards the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding. Based on initial observations in the working area of the Banyuanyar Surakarta Community Health Centre, many mothers are still not breastfeeding exclusively as recommended by the WHO. This community service activity aims to increase breastfeeding mothers' knowledge and attitudes about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding through education using video media delivered via the WhatsApp application. Methods: The partners in this activity were breastfeeding mothers in the working area of the Banyuanyar Surakarta Community Health Centre, with a total of 45 participants. The activity was carried out in three stages, namely programme socialisation, video-based education, and interactive discussions through a WhatsApp group. The educational material covered the definition of exclusive breastfeeding, its benefits for mothers and babies, proper breastfeeding techniques, and how to maintain milk production. Evaluation was conducted using questionnaires before and after the activity to assess the increase in knowledge and attitudes of breastfeeding mothers. Results: The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge of 40.3%, from an average score of 13.78 to 19.33, as well as an increase in positive attitudes towards exclusive breastfeeding of 25.7%, from an average score of 54.47 to 68.51. Conclusion: This activity proves that education through video media via WhatsApp is effective in improving the soft skills and awareness of breastfeeding mothers about exclusive breastfeeding. This programme can be used as a model for efficient and easily implemented digital-based health education at the primary care level.

Abstract

This study evaluates the implementation and contribution of the Sekolah Peternakan Rakyat (SPR) Program to Brahman Cross cattle farming in Bojonegoro Regency. A mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design was applied, involving surveys, in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis of 20 SPR farmers. The results show that the program effectively improved farmers’ knowledge and technical competencies (knowledge scores ranging from 4.35–5.00). However, business expansion aspiration remained very low 1.15, indicating structural constraints beyond individual capacity enhancement. Technical performance of Brahman Cross cattle was fluctuating, particularly in reproductive indicators, and institutional capacity within the farmer group remained limited in managerial coordination and collective decision-making. These findings demonstrate that improvements in individual capacity do not automatically translate into sustainable business performance. Institutional strengthening and alignment between program design and smallholder conditions are essential to ensure long-term program effectiveness.

Abstract

The Piperaceae family is notable for its many benefits to humans due to the production of unique essential oils. The economic, health, and cultural value of this family necessitates the exploration of its diverse species as material alternatives. This study aimed to investigate the Piperaceae family's morphological diversity in the TNMB region. This qualitative research employed a tracking method, and the results indicated the Piperaceae morphological variations through the instruments of root, stem, leave, and flower. The study identified 11 species, including 10 of the Piper genus and one of the Peperomia genus, respectively. The two genera exhibited variations in root and stem morphology. They were similar in leaf shape, aroma, and flower type. Morphological investigation is important for identifying Piperaceae family members, of which few of the 11 identified species have been used. This study provides baseline data that may contribute to future conservation, domestication, and commercialization efforts.
