Abstract

Purwosari Village gained recognition with the Embung Puri Idaman tourist attraction, the only tourist village in East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. Managed by the Pokdarwis (Tourism Awareness Group), formed in 2022, the site is now facing challenges, including a decrease in the number of visitors. The causes include limited tourism creativity and innovation, economic capital, suboptimal marketing, and low community cohesion. To overcome this, online cultural arts and marketing training programs were held to boost Pokdarwis creativity, attract more visitors, and provide educational value for tourists. This training used the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach and involved 40 participants, including Pokdarwis members, village officials, children, and village residents. The material provided includes training on the mini saron musical instrument, the bancakan weton procession, tourism management, and social media marketing. The results showed an increase in participants' knowledge from 11.5% to 75.5%, as well as an increase in creativity from those who only relied on nature and facilities as tourist attractions, now being able to play mini saron and understand the bancakan weton cultural procession. Interviews revealed that participants gained new motivation to promote local arts and culture, aiming to increase recognition and provide economic value for the village community.

Abstract

As the urgency of addressing climate change and promoting environmental sustainability continues to rise, educational institutions play a crucial role in equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary for responsible citizenship. Recognizing the need for innovative teaching strategies in this area, this study investigates the integration of trade books into secondary school English lessons to enhance students' understanding of these pressing global issues. This study employed a design-based research (DBR) approach to develop and implement a project-based climate change education program integrated into English Language Teaching (ELT) for junior high school students. Conducted at the Public Junior High School Lalan, a remote area in South Sumatra, the study aimed to enhance students' climate literacy by exploring their existing knowledge, addressing climate change topics in the classroom, and identifying challenges in the implementation process. A total of 52 ninth-grade students, selected through purposive sampling, participated in the study. Data were collected through surveys and in-depth interviews conducted before and after the intervention. The interviews explored students’ experiences, perspectives, and changes in understanding related to climate change. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the interview transcripts, revealing shifts in students’ awareness and knowledge. The findings indicate that integrating climate change education into ELT through a project-based approach can effectively support students’ climate literacy and contribute to a more sustainable mindset among learners.

Abstract

The integration of technology into education has transformed traditional teaching methods, with podcasting emerging as a promising technique to enhance language acquisition. This study examines how collaborative podcasting influences pre-service teachers’ communication skills and their perceptions of technology’s role in English language education. Using a survey method, data were collected from fourth, sixth, and eighth-semester students who had created podcasts. Google Forms facilitated the distribution of surveys via WhatsApp groups, ensuring broad participation. Quantitative data were gathered through Likert scale items, while qualitative feedback provided deeper insights. Descriptive analysis was used to calculate mean and standard deviation for each item. The findings revealed that collaborative podcasting enhanced students’ communication skills, including clarity, active listening, and teamwork. Students reported personalized learning experiences and active engagement in content creation, which fostered a supportive and interactive learning environment. The results also highlighted positive perceptions of technology as a valuable tool for language learning. Collaborative podcasting not only improved communication skills but also demonstrated the potential of technology to transform learning by promoting active participation and critical skills development. These outcomes underscore the value of podcasting in preparing pre-service teachers for real-world communication challenges. Technology integration through collaborative podcast projects positively impacts pre-service teachers' communication skills and engagement. Educators are encouraged to incorporate podcasting into language curricula to enhance skill development. Future research should explore long-term effects of podcasting on language acquisition and the adaptability of technological tools for diverse learning styles.

Abstract

This study investigates the ecological resilience of English teachers as they navigate institutional and social challenges in a private English course in Palembang, Indonesia. Grounded in Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory, the research examines how teachers maintain their professional commitment and well-being through the interplay between personal, institutional, and social systems. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected from ten senior teachers at Gloria English Course through semi-structured interviews and documentation. Thematic analysis was employed to identify recurring themes related to teachers' resilience across ecological layers. The findings reveal that teachers encounter institutional challenges, including policy inconsistency, excessive workload demands, and limited resources, alongside social pressures from parental expectations and workplace dynamics. Despite these difficulties, teachers demonstrated a strong adaptive capacity through personal strategies, including emotional regulation, self-reflection, and spiritual coping. Social and managerial support, especially collegial collaboration, empathetic leadership, and professional trust, played a vital role in maintaining teachers' motivation and stability. The results emphasize that resilience is not a fixed individual trait but a dynamic process shaped by reciprocal interactions between teachers and their environments. This study enriches the understanding of teacher resilience by emphasizing ecological perspectives within private educational contexts, an area that remains underexplored in Indonesian EFL research. Promoting supportive institutional systems and fostering collaborative work cultures can enhance teachers' resilience, improve well-being, and sustain professional quality in private language education.

Abstract

This study analyzes the phenomenon of code-switching in the lyrics of six songs by the Japanese rock band X Japan: Dahlia, Scars, Longing, Rusty Nails, Tears, and Forever Love. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research identifies and categorizes code-switching into three types: intersentential, intrasentential, and tag switching. The research instrument played an important role in obtaining the research results. Creswell (2009, p. 164) stated that in qualitative research, the main instrument was the researcher. The researcher uses some steps in analyzing the data, which are, first observing the data or information available in the data sheet, second classifying the data based on the kinds of code-switching used, third recheck and make sure all the data is well organized. Describing and discussing the code-switching used, and last drawing a conclusion based on the data analyzed. A total of 123 instances of code-switching were identified, with tag switching being the most prevalent (46%), followed by intersentential (37%) and intrasentential switching (17%). The analysis indicates that English insertions enhance rhythm, emphasize emotion, and broaden the appeal to an international audience. These findings underscore the linguistic creativity within J-Rock music and imply that code-switching fulfills both artistic and communicative functions within multilingual song lyrics.
