Abstract

Gender equality is a global issue that continues to face challenges in its implementation across countries. School learning plays a strategic role in instilling the values of justice and equality from an early age. One such approach is through the subject of Social Studies. This article aims to examine how strengthening Social Studies learning through the integration of a global perspective on gender equality makes learning more relevant, contextual, and better able to foster critical awareness in students. This research uses a literature review. Data were obtained from various literature sources, including national and international journal articles and books related to Social Studies learning themes, gender equality, and global perspectives. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and analytically by mapping the relationship between ten main Social Studies themes and gender equality issues in a global context. The results of the study indicate that gender equality can be integrated comprehensively into Social Studies subject themes, such as culture, history, environment, individual identity, social relations, power, economics, technology, global connections, and citizenship. The integration of a global perspective into Social Studies learning helps students understand gender equality as a cross-border, cross-cultural social issue. Thus, Social Studies learning plays a vital role in fostering inclusive, just, and responsible attitudes among global citizens.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the potential of mangrove ecotourism and formulate appropriate development strategies in Pagatan Besar Village, Takisung District, Tanah Laut Regency, South Kalimantan Province. The method used is a descriptive quantitative approach, with data collection conducted through purposive sampling, involving 63 tourists, 23 residents, and 14 related parties. The analysis was carried out using the ADO-ODTWA and SWOT approaches. The results of the ADO-ODTWA analysis indicate that the mangrove area in Pagatan Besar Village has high potential for development as an ecotourism destination, based on from its natural attractions, ease of access, and visitor enthusiasm. Based on the SWOT analysis, the position of the development strategy falls in quadrant I, indicating that strengths such as biological wealth and community involvement must be optimally utilized to capture available opportunities, including increasing interest in nature-based tourism and government support. The recommended strategic priorities are improving facilities and infrastructure, strengthening the role of local communities, and promoting more effective development. This study contributes to the preservation of mangrove ecosystems and the development of sustainable ecotourism by planning strategies that consider environmental and socio-economic aspects. This study has limitations, including the small number of respondents and the survey’s limited scope, which was conducted only in one season. Consequently, the results do not accurately reflect the overall annual conditions. The study suggests further expanding the scope of the data and reviewing digital promotion strategies to expand the reach and participation of tourists

Abstract

Agrarian conflict in Indonesia is a pressing structural issue, as it involves unequal access to land between the state, corporations, and indigenous communities. This study aims to examine the dynamics of agrarian conflict and state hegemony in controlling agrarian resources, while analyzing the resulting ecological impacts. The method used is a literature study with a descriptive qualitative approach, analyzing various legal documents, reports from civil society organizations, and academic and media articles. The results of the study indicate that the state, through national strategic projects and the granting of concessions such as HGU, often ignores the customary rights of local communities, triggering social conflict and damaging the ecological order. This form of domination is reinforced by the weak recognition of customary law and minimal public participation in the formulation of agrarian policies. Ecologically, agrarian conflict has an impact on deforestation, land degradation, environmental pollution, and a sustainability crisis. The study's conclusions confirm that the state exercises hegemony in agrarian conflict in Indonesia through coercive and ideological power, which legitimizes land grabbing in the name of development. Case studies show a pattern of land acquisition without community consent, which causes social conflict and ecological damage, and marginalizes the role of local communities in decision-making.

Abstract

Abstract.. The Urban Heat Island phenomenon has become an important issue in urban management, such as in Banjarmasin City. This phenomenon occurs due to the reduction of vegetation cover and the increase in building density, which affects the rise of land surface temperature. The purpose of this study is to analyze how vegetation density and building density influence the UHI phenomenon in Banjarmasin City. The analyses used are spatial analysis and statistical analysis. The spatial analysis processes the levels of vegetation and building density as well as the distribution of surface temperature in Banjarmasin City, while the statistical analysis employs multiple linear regression. Data were obtained from Landsat 8 OLI-TIRS satellite imagery during the dry season, collected on different dates each year: 29 (2019), September 17 (2020), May 31 (2021), July 21 (2022), September 2 (2023), and September 20 (2024). The data were then processed into three indices: LST as the dependent variable, and SAVI and NDBI as the independent variables. The results show that building density has a significant positive effect on the increase of surface temperature, while vegetation density has a negative effect in reducing temperature. The R Square value over five years, amounting to 0.555, indicates the extent to which surface temperature is influenced by SAVI and NDBI. The five-year regression equation is Y = 25.938 – 3.973X₁ + 11.874X₂, showing that every unit increase in building density index can raise the surface temperature by 11.87°C. Increased building density has been proven to elevate surface temperature by 11.87°C, while increased vegetation density reduces it by 3.97°C. The coefficient values need to be adjusted according to the index scale to ensure more valid and representative results. These findings reaffirm the role of vegetation as a key element in mitigating the urban heat island effect. Further research is recommended to include spatial variables such as soil moisture, topography, and building orientation. These results serve as a scientific basis for sustainable urban planning that is adaptive to climate change.Submitted: 2025-08-05 Revisions:  2025-10-24  Accepted: 2026-02-01 Published: 2026-02-05

Abstract

The Tawas Jaa tradition practiced by the Dayak Deah community in Upau represents a culturally significant ritual imbued with profound spiritual and social values. Beyond its role as a medium of ancestral veneration, this tradition is an integral mechanism for reinforcing communal bonds. The collective participation of all societal strata in the ritual across gender, generational, and religious lines reflects a strong foundation of social cohesion rooted in shared religious and cultural beliefs. This study examines the sociocultural meaning of the Tawas Jaa tradition as a form of religious-based social cohesion within the Dayak Deah community of Kaong. Employing a qualitative research design with a descriptive approach, the research was conducted in Kaong Village, identified in 2024 & 2025 as the sole remaining village in the Upau subdistrict actively maintaining the Tawas Jaa practice. Data was collected through participant observation and in-depth interviews, with informants selected via snowball sampling techniques. Data analysis employed source triangulation, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The research findings indicate that the Tawas Jaa tradition serves as a central pillar of community cohesion, facilitating the integration of diverse social segments through collective involvement. The ritual encompasses elements of mutual cooperation, community-driven fundraising, and the symbolic use of cultural artifacts such as ancak and the dragon boat—each reinforcing collective identity and interdependence. In addition to its spiritual dimensions, the tradition underscores the importance of egalitarianism, social solidarity, and communal self-reliance. Furthermore, by embracing religious plurality, the tradition fosters a resilient social structure and affirms the enduring relevance of ancestral values in shaping communal life.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using 3D-AIR media in enhancing geography learning outcomes for students at SMA Negeri 8 Banjarmasin. This type of research uses an experimental design with a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The sample of this study was students of class X.5 as the experimental class and X.6 as the control class in the 2024/2025 academic year. The experimental class received treatment in the form of 3D-AIR media, while the control class did not use any learning media. The material taught in this study was the lithosphere. The data collection technique employed a test consisting of multiple-choice questions. The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test, which showed that the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.861> 0.05 means that there is no increase in geography learning outcomes through 3D-AIR media in class X students at SMA Negeri 8 Banjarmasin. This is due to various learning component factors, including both 3D-AIR media and supporting facilities used during the learning process in class. 3D-AIR media still has shortcomings, namely that it is only compatible with Android-based devices. However, some students use iOS and HarmonyOS-based gadgets, which can hinder their access to lithosphere materials during instruction. Furthermore, Wi-Fi network support in the school environment is still suboptimal, resulting in suboptimal use of 3D-AIR media in learning. This research finding should be a key focus in the development of 3D-AIR media, enabling optimal use to significantly improve student learning outcomes in geography. The use of 3D-AIR media is crucial for improving the quality of geography learning in the technological era.
