Abstract

The prolactin hormone produced by the anterior pituitary gland plays an important role in the reproductive system, such as stimulating breast milk production and regulating the menstrual cycle in women, as well as stimulating sperm production and sex drive in men. This study aims to 1) examine the effectiveness of prolactin hormone administration on ovulation in postpartum female mice (Mus musculus). 2) contribute to the study material of animal physiology courses, particularly on endocrine topics. This research employed a true experimental design using a completely randomized design (CRD). The research samples were female Mus musculus mice of the BALB/C strain, approximately 4 months old, weighing between 25–30 grams, healthy, and non-pregnant. The data obtained were analyzed using a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) (F-test) with a significance level of 0.05, followed by a Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The results showed that the significance value (p) = 0.001 < α = 0.05, indicating that the administration of prolactin hormone had a significant effect in reducing ovulation in postpartum female Mus musculus mice.

Abstract

The Microteaching course trains students to understand basic teaching skills and apply them in teaching practice with fellow students. The purpose of this study was to determine students' explanation skills during teaching practice in the microteaching course. The study was conducted with Biology Education students enrolled in the Microteaching course, class A, during the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected using observation sheets during student teaching practice through peer teaching. The instrument used was derived from indicators' explanation skills, with answer choices on a 1-5 Likert scale. The data were analyzed descriptively by calculating the scores obtained by each indicator on the observed explanation skills, then 5 categories were created: very poor, less good, quite good, good, and very good. The results of observations on all observed explanation skills indicators showed that, on average, students were able to apply explanation skills in teaching practice in micro teaching courses with a good category. However, there were still students with very poor and poor presentations, with an emphasis on important points, and feedback indicators. It can be concluded that, on average, students were able to apply explanation skills in teaching practice; however, they still need to continue practising so that, later, when facing school field practice or when becoming real teachers in schools, they become accustomed to using these skills.

Abstract

Rendahnya literasi lingkungan menjadi salah satu penyebab terjadinya perusakan lingkungan. Upaya peningkatan pemahaman literasi lingkungan dapat dilakukan melalui pembelajaran yang mengintegrasikan lingkungan. Hal tersebut akan mengajak siswa berfikir kritis tentang peran lingkungan dalam kehidupan. Kawasan Ekowisata Bagek Kembar yang terletak di Desa Persiapan Empol Kabupaten Lombok Barat menyimpan potensi keanekaragaman hayati melimpah. Kawasan Ekowisata Bagek Kembar memainkan 3 fungsi sekaligus yaitu fungsi ekologis, ekonomi dan edukasi. Ancaman kerusakan lingkungan di kawasan tersebut makin meningkat, sehingga dirasa perlu diadakan pengenalan keanekaragaman hayati kawasan melalui media pembelajaran sehingga berdampak pada timbulnya rasa cinta lingkungan dan kontribusi terhadap upaya pelestarian lingkungan. Program pelatihan media pembelajaran ini melibatkan guru-guru di SMAN 1 Sekotong Lombok Barat. Hasil analisis awal menunjukkan bahwa sebanyak 65% guru telah menemukan dan melihat keanekaragaman hayati di kawasan namun hal tersebut bertolak belakang dalam pemanfaatan keanekaragaman hayati sebagai media pembelajaran. Sebanyak 96% peserta pelatihan menunjukkan ketertarikan dalam pembuatan media pembelajaran dan akan menggunakan dalam pembelajaran sehingga mampu meningkatkan literasi lingkungan kepada siswa dan menumbuhkan kesadaran pelestarian lingkungan. Guru mitra juga menunjukkan kepuasan terhadap penyampaian materi dan isi materi dalam kegiatan pengabdian.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing terhadap hasil belajar dan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik kelas X pada pokok bahasan keanekaragaman hayati dan klasifikasi makhluk hidup di SMAN 1 Narmada tahun ajaran 2017/2018. Jenis penelitian ini adalah quasi experiment dengan desain nonequivalent control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh peserta didik kelas X IPA di SMAN 1 Narmada tahun ajaran 2017/2018. Jumlah peserta didik dalam populasi ini adalah 180 yang tersebar dalam 5 kelas. Sampel dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik simple random sampling dan terpilih kelas X MS 2 (kelas eksperimen) dan kelas X MS 1 (kelas kontrol). Instrumen yang digunakan untuk memperoleh hasil belajar adalah soal pilihan ganda sedangkan soal essay digunakan untuk mengumpulkan hasil kemampuan berpikir kritis. Analisis statistik data dengan menggunakan uji t pada taraf kesalahan 5%. Data yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa hasil belajar kelas eksperimen meningkat sebesar 35,16 (32,53 ke 67,69) sedangkan hasil belajar kelas kontrol meningkat sebesar 26,16 (34,67 ke 60,83). Data kemampuan berpikir kritis menunjukkan bahwa kelas eksperimen meningkat sebesar 27,49 (38,14 ke 65,63) sedangkan data kemampuan berpikir kritis kelas kontrol meningkat sebesar 18,56 (36,03 ke 54,59). Analisis statistik hasil belajar peserta didik menunjukkan bahwa thitung > ttabel (2,67 > 1,99) dan kemampuan berpikir kritis menunjukkan bahwa thitung > ttabel (2,88 > 1,99). Hasil analisis statistik tersebut berarti hasil belajar peserta didik dan kemampuan berpikir kritis kelas eksperimen lebih baik secara signifikan daripada kelas kontrol. Disimpulkan bahwa model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berpengaruh positif secara signifikan terhadap hasil belajar dan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik kelas X pada pokok bahasan keanekaragaman hayati dan klasifikasi makhluk hidup di SMAN 1 Narmada tahun ajaran 2017/2018.

Abstract

Pak Choi is a widely cultivated plant species in Indonesia. To grow optimally, Pak Choi requires a growing medium containing sufficient nutrients. To ensure adequate nutrient levels in the growing medium, fertilization is necessary. Research on the effect of compost and urea fertilizer applications on Pak Choi growth was conducted from March to June 2025. This study aims to analyze the vegetative growth of Pak Choi after being given compost and urea fertilizer treatments. In this study, a completely randomized design with 2 factors was used. The compost application was 0 kg, 0.8 kg, 1.6 kg, and 2,4 kg for 8 kg of soil in a polybag. The urea fertilizer treatment was 0 grams, 0.5 grams, 1 gram, and 1.5 grams for each plant. Each treatment combination was performed with three replications. The results showed that the compost treatment had a significant effect on the fresh weight, number of leaves, plant height, and leaf length of Pok choy. The application of urea fertilizer can increase the fresh weight, number of leaves, plant height, and leaf length of Pak Choi. The interaction between compost and urea fertilizer had no significant effect on fresh weight, leaf number, plant height, or leaf length. The optimal dose of compost was 1.2 kg. The 1.5-gram urea fertilizer treatment resulted in better growth than the other doses.

Abstract

Education quality is fundamentally influenced by various factors, with the school environment playing a crucial role in shaping student learning outcomes. The school environment encompasses physical, social, and academic aspects that collectively affect students' comfort and motivation to learn. This study aims to determine the relationship between school environmental factors and biology learning outcomes of grade VII MTsN 3 Mataram students. The school environment encompasses physical, social, and academic aspects that collectively impact students' comfort and motivation to learn. This study employs a correlational, quantitative, descriptive method. The population consisted of all students of grade VII, with samples taken from grades VII-4 and VII-5 using purposive sampling techniques. Data collection techniques include questionnaires and documentation of student learning outcomes. The questionnaire instrument was validated using Aiken's V formula and tested for reliability with Cronbach's alpha, both of which yielded valid and reliable results. The normality test indicates that the data are normally distributed, and the linearity test reveals a linear relationship between the variables. Correlation analysis yielded a coefficient of r = 0.608, indicating a strong and significant relationship at a 5% significance level (r calculated exceeds the r table value). Thus, it is concluded that there is a positive and significant relationship between school environmental factors and students' biology learning outcomes. These findings can serve as input for teachers and schools in creating a supportive learning environment to enhance the educational process.

Abstract

Selar crumenophthalmus, known as the bigeye scad, is a commercially important small pelagic fish widely exploited in East Lombok waters. This study aims to examine the reproductive characteristics of the species, including gonadal maturity stages (GMS), gonadosomatic index (GSI), sex ratio, length–weight relationship, and length–fecundity relationship, based on samples collected at PPI Tanjung Luar from June to August 2025. This study employed a descriptive exploratory research design, with samples collected using quota sampling consisting of 90 individuals who landed at PPI Tanjung Luar from June to August 2025, and the data were analyzed descriptively. The species designated GMS I–V, with GMS II and III being the most dominant stages across months. The highest GSI values for both sexes occurred in June, indicating the peak spawning period, with female GSI reaching 2.34% and male GSI 0.80%. Monthly sex ratios shifted from 2.13:1 (June) to 0.64:1 (July) and 1:1 (August). The length–weight relationship showed positive allometric growth in males (b = 3.05) and negative allometric growth in females (b = 2.189). Fecundity ranged from 9,312–11,843 eggs in June and 8,495–15,006 eggs in July, with a strong positive correlation to body length in mature females. These findings indicate that reproduction peaks in June, providing essential information for the sustainable management of the species in Tanjung Luar.

Abstract

Biology learning requires the development of critical thinking skills and learning outcomes through meaningful and contextual processes; however, classroom instruction is often still dominated by conventional approaches. This study aimed to analyze the effect of implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the critical thinking skills and Biology learning outcomes of Grade XI students at SMA Negeri 4 Praya. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test–post-test control group. The participants were Grade XI students, divided into an experimental and a control class. The research instruments included a critical thinking skills test based on Ennis' (1996) indicators and a Biology learning outcomes test based on curriculum competencies. The results showed that students in the experimental class achieved significantly higher improvements in both critical thinking skills and learning outcomes compared to the control class. Statistical analysis indicated that implementing the Problem-Based Learning model had a positive, significant effect on student performance. These findings suggest that the PBL model promotes active and meaningful learning, making it an effective approach for enhancing critical thinking skills and Biology learning outcomes among Grade XI students.

Abstract

Kemampuan guru dalam menganalisis kromosom profase I meiosis melalui pengamatan mikroskopis dan simulasi dapat sangat membantu dalam meningkatkan indikator pencapaian kompetensi belajar genetika di sekolah. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah melatih keterampilan guru-guru mitra yang tergabung dalam MGMP Biologi Lombok Tengah untuk melakukan (1) pengamatan kromosom profase I meiosis dibawah mikroskop, (2) analisis crossing over kromosom profase I meiosis dibawah mikroskop, dan (3) simulasi proses crossing over dan pembentukan gamet. Pengabdian ini telah dilaksanakan di SMAN 1 Praya. Metode yang digunakan adalah ceramah, diskusi, tanya jawab, praktikum, dan simulasi. Sebelum kegiatan dimulai dilakukan pre-test dan pada akhir kegiatan dilakukan post-test. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa guru-guru mitra (1) dapat membedakan leptoten, zigoten, pakiten, diploten, dan diakinensis dalam profase I meiosis, (2) dapat membuat visualisasi secara skematis subfase diploten dan menunjukkan lokasi kiasmata dengan benar, dan (3) dapat membuat simulasi proses crossing over subfase diploten dengan media plastisin. Kemampuan kognitif guru mitra meningkat signifikan dari 55,50 (pretes) menjadi 91,98 (postes).
