Abstract

This study investigates the religious life of the fishing community in Kampung Nelayan Prapag Lor, Losari District, Brebes Regency, using a qualitative ethnographic approach. Based on participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation analysis, the research reveals that the community’s religious expression is deeply influenced by local culture, socioeconomic conditions, and traditional beliefs. Their religious worldview reflects Clifford Geertz's description of the Abangan variant of Javanese Islam, in which religious practices are not limited to formal worship but are expressed through communal rituals such as slametan, suwuk (protective prayers), and pilgrimage to sacred sites. Religion functions as both a spiritual and social system that provides meaning, structure, and emotional security in a life shaped by uncertainty at sea and limited economic opportunities. While older generations preserve strong ties to tradition, younger members show increasing openness to scriptural and institutional expressions of Islam influenced by education and media. The study argues that religious life in marginalized coastal communities is not a reflection of religious decline, but a creative adaptation to local realities. These findings offer significant insight for scholars of religion, culture, and poverty by highlighting the role of indigenous spirituality in fostering social cohesion and resilience.

Abstract

The essence of Islamic da'wah is an invitation or call to the way of Allah Subhaanahu wa ta'aalaa (SWT), for goodness and truth according to the teachings of the Qur'an. The purpose of this article is to find out how art is a medium for da'wah and to know the role of art in preaching. The benefits of this article scientifically are that it can enrich scientific treasures and add information about art as a medium of da'wah. Then the practical benefits are as a reference and motivation for Muslims in general, for readers and writers in particular to always continue to carry out da'wah to spread Islamic law. Art is a beautifully nuanced expression. Whether it's speech or expression, painting or verbal, in short in all aspects of life. With science everything becomes easier, with art everything becomes more beautiful. Da'wah media is a tool used to convey da'wah material (Islamic teachings) to mad'u (recipients of da'wah).

Abstract

Cottonii seaweed (Kappaphycus alvarezii Doty) is one of the most important commercial sources of carrageenan, which is widely used in the pharmaceutical and food industries. A major problem in the cultivation of this seaweed is ice-ice disease, which is caused by extreme changes in environmental conditions such as temperature and seawater salinity. Gene transformation to produce transgenic Kappaphycus lines that are tolerant to environmental stress is a potential solution to this problem. The Gα gene, which encodes the heterotrimeric G-protein alpha subunit, plays an important role in tolerance to biotic and abiotic environmental stress. This study aimed to: (a) introduce the Gα gene into the callus cells of K. alvarezii and regenerate transformed callus cells into transgenic plantlets; and (b) determine the appropriate concentration of acetosyringone and Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain for successful gene transfer into the callus of K. alvarezii. The callus cells of K. alvarezii were transformed using Agrobacterium tumefaciens strains LBA4404 and EHA105 carrying the expression vector pGWB502-Gα under the control of the CaMV-35S promoter. The calli and A. tumefaciens were co-cultivated in different concentrations of acetosyringone (20, 40, and 60 mg/L). The regeneration of transformed callus cells into transgenic plantlets was successfully achieved using the somatic embryogenesis technique. The results showed that the highest percentage of putative transgenic micropropagule formation occurred at acetosyringone concentrations of 20–40 mg/L. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis of twenty regenerated plantlets indicated that the Gα gene was successfully introduced into the genomic DNA of all samples. The highest transformation efficiency was obtained from the 20–40 mg/L acetosyringone co-cultivation treatment (22–28%). The transformation efficiency produced by Agrobacterium tumefaciens EHA105 (23%) was not significantly different from that produced using strain LBA4404 (15%).
