Abstract

During the pandemic, online-based learning faced numerous challenges, such as internet connectivity issues, difficulties in comprehension, an increase in assignments, one-sided interactions, and reduced concentration. Nevertheless, private tutoring institutions emerged as invaluable resources, enabling students to revisit lesson materials, enhance their understanding, and complete assignments effectively. This study aimed to investigate the digital transformation at Prima Utama Private Tutoring Institution in Surakarta, Indonesia, focusing on the factors that support and hinder the institution's operations, and proposing solutions to overcome these obstacles during the pandemic. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, the research involved institutional leaders, tutors, and students as key informants. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, followed by data condensation, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings demonstrated the institution’s resilience through the implementation of both online and offline tutoring programs, incorporating diverse learning strategies such as lectures, interactive teaching methods, and the use of various applications. Despite technical challenges like network issues and limited technological proficiency, the interaction between tutors and students remained strong. Challenges included physical distance constraints, module availability, and promotional barriers. Proposed solutions included enhancing the Wi-Fi network, providing training on learning platforms, accessing e-modules, and developing practice questions. Additionally, the study recommended using social media, parent testimonials, and discount offers to overcome promotional challenges. Ultimately, this research offers valuable insights into the adaptation of educational institutions during the pandemic and provides recommendations for improving learning quality in an all-digital private tutoring environment.

Abstract

Previous studies reported findings that indicate drawbacks linked to the long-term completion of the final assignment at various universities in Indonesia. One of the major findings of these studies revealed that the communication problem between students and supervisors is the main obstacle in the completion of their final assignment. Based on the assessment and observation at the level of Bachelor’s degree (S1) and magister program (S2), it can be assumed that a high number of lecturers/supervisors incline to allocate less special time for guiding their students. They commonly give various reasons and indecisive time for guidance. The reason such as the lecturers’ reluctance to supervise students in relation to their less interest of student’s final paper topics, dislike of the student’s personality, absence of consultation schedule without obvious reason, and being emotional in supervising the students’ writing. In the contemporary era, communication is dominated by the individual use of social media. Each individual must always be connected with Smartphone, including lecturers and students. In addition, it also affects the communication pattern of lecturers and students. This research is a literature study using qualitative approach. It was done by examining and analyzing the prevailing problems based on the existing literature. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that code of ethics is needed as solution to overcome the problems of communication between student and supervisor. It formulates code of ethics named the “ETIC" code as a system or norm established as a set of basic principles of communication between students and supervisors to promote effective and efficient final assignment guidance in the contemporary era. "ETIC" is the acronym of the four basic principles of Ethics (E), Timeliness (T), Innovation (I), and Transparency (C). In addition, the “ETIC” code is expected to support the acceleration program of final assignment completion. Nevertheless, both systematic administrative procedures and the ease of access to documents of administrative requirements for final assignment are required to support the implementation of this code. In addition, the monitoring and evaluation process of this code and the acceleration program of final assignment completion are performed by the Final Assignment Ethics Review Committee (FAERC).

The suboptimal parenting by migrant mothers can impact the emotional development of their children and the well-being of the mothers themselves. The UMS service team collaborates with Pimpinan Cabang ‘Aisyiyah (PCIA) in Hong Kong to analyze the situation of Indonesian immigrants in Hong Kong and find solutions to parenting issues. The solution proposed by the team is to enhance the parenting skills of Indonesian immigrants to effectively care for their children despite the long-distance separation through educational activities. This parenting method focuses more on the prophetic parenting method, inspired by the teachings of the Prophet, which is deemed crucial for building a strong character foundation in children to face contemporary challenges and ensure a quality next generation. Parents need to understand the natural inclinations and psychosocial development of children before applying prophetic parenting. Some principles of prophetic parenting include (1) demonstrating noble character in all interactions with children; (2) choosing the right time for guidance; (3) being fair to children; and (4) respecting children's rights. Tips for long-distance parenting include (1) building and maintaining strong, open communication; (2) creating a sense of connection between parents and children; (3) helping children overcome challenges; and (4) ensuring psychological well-being. This service activity has increased participants' understanding and skills in applying prophetic parenting concepts, encouraging migrant mothers to continuously develop themselves in their crucial role as parents shaping their children's character. Keywords: education; prophetic parenting; migrant workers; PCIA hong kong.
