Abstract

This study aimed to determine effect of Cu(II) ion toward percent extraction of Pb(II) ion using emulsion liquid membrane technique. Variation concentrations of Cu(II) added were 0, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 ppm with the initial concentration of Pb(II) was 245 ppm. This extraction used benzoyl acetone as a chelating agent. The extraction results were measured by Spectrodirect. The results showed that percent extraction of Pb(II) ion prior addition of Cu(II) ion was 99.09%, but after addition of Cu(II) to a concentration up to 250 ppm, the percent extraction of Pb(II) ions turned to decrease by 97.92%.

Abstract

Antioxidant activity test of bay leave (Syzygium polyanthum) extract using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhidrazyl (DPPH) has been investigated. The aim of this research is to determine antioxidant strength of bay leave (Syzygium polyanthum) extract. The bay leaves used in this research were young, medium, and old leaves categories. Concentration of DPPH free radical after additional bay leave extracts were determined by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Variation concentrations of bay leave extracts were 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm, and 80 ppm. Vitamin C solution was used as the positive control at the similar concentration, while DPPH solution in ethanol absolute was the negative control. The results showed that IC50 values for young, middle, and old leaves extracts were 37.441 ppm, 14.889 ppm, and 11.001 ppm, whereas vitamin C was 9.898 ppm. Based on these IC50 values, vitamin C is the strongest antioxidant than young, middle, and old bay leave extracts, and these extracts are classified as very strong natural antioxidant.

Abstract

Red fruit seeds have not been studied and known benefits, therefore it needed scientific information about the content and benefits of red fruit seeds. This study aims to analyze the antioxidant power red fruit seed extract as well determining the IC50 value of red fruit seed extract which has the ability of natural antioxidants. Determination of free radical DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhidrazyl) after the addition of red fruit seeds extract is determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Variations in the concentration of the red fruit seed extract used is 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm, 80 ppm and 100 ppm.The positive control used is vitamin C with the same concentration. While the negative control using DPPH solution dissolved in absolute ethanol. The results showed IC50 values obtained for the red fruit seed extract and vitamin C are 223.8 ppm and 1.73 ppm. Based on the IC50 data can be known that vitamin C antioxidants more powerful than red fruit seed extract which belongs to natural antioxidants are very weak.

Abstract

Chayote (sechiumeaite) is an alternative source of vegetable which is consumed largely by the community. For that reason, the research was conducted to determine the content of potassium (K) and calcium (Ca) as wll as its relation to the growth soil. The method of this research is laboratory experiments by using atomic absorption spectrometry. The result shows that the content of potassium in Palolo’s chayote meat is 134.35 mg/100 g, skin and fruit meat is 269.10 mg/100 g, and in the ground is 34.02 mg/100 g. However, in Kebun Kopi’s pumpkin, the content of potassium (K) is 177.42 mg/100 g in its fruit meat, 298.35 mg/100 g in its skin and fruit meat, and 88.02 mg/100 g in the soil. On the other hands the content of calcium obtained as follows: in Palolo’s chayote meat is 38.53 mg/100 g, in the skin and fruit meat is 55.865 mg/100 g, and in the soil is 32.72 mg/100 g. In the area of Kebun Kopi’s chayote meat is 20.535mg/100 g, in the skin and fruit meat is 30.605 mg/100 g, and in the soil is 7.682 mg/100 g. Therefore, the content of potassium and calcium obtained is higher than in the literature.

Abstract

Moringa is a plant use as a traditional medicine. The leaves of moringa (moringa oleivera) is part of the plant that could reduce the blood sugar levels. This research aims to determine the extract (infusion) of moringa leaves (moringa oleivera), to reduce the blood sugar level in mice and to determine the most effective concentrations of moringa leaves extract (infusion) to reduce the blood sugar levels in diabetic mice. Bioactifive compounds of moringa leaves was identified by using reagent dragendorff to test alkaloids while reagent chloroform, acetic anhydride and sulfuric acid to test steroids/terpenoids. The study was a clinical trial by using animal testing, 15 mice which was divided to 5 group of treatments: P1 (food + EDTA + glucose, 10% of moringa leaves infusion, Na-CMS), P2 (food + EDTA + glucose, 20% of moringa leaves infusion, Na-CMS), P3 (food + EDTA + glucose, 40% of moringa leaves infusion, Na-CMS), P4 (food + EDTA + glucose, glibenklamid, Na-CMS), and P5 (food + EDTA + glucose, Na-CMS). Blood glucose levels measured with GlukoDr instrument. The measurement data was analyzed by ANOVA test with the 95% confidence level followed by Duncan test to determine the significant different of each treatment to obtained the significant data. The result showed that moringa leaves extract consist of alkaloid and steroid which plays an important role to reduce blood sugar level and the concentration of the moringa leaves extract 20% was effective to the reduce the blood sugar level of diabetic mice.

Abstract

The plant could be potential as a traditional medicine, relatively safe, and inexpensive, that is of Moringa (moringa oleifera) fruit, which contains compounds those can lower blood sugar levels. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Moringa fruit extracts on decreasing blood sugar levels of mice and to determine the most effective concentration of the extract. The separation method used was maceration. The animals test used were 15 male mice induced by EDTA. Mice were divided into 5 groups with different treatments. The first, the second, and the third treatments were given moringa extracts each with a concentration of 10, 20, and 40%. The fourth treatment was given glibenclamide suspension as a positive control, and the fifth treatment was given Na-CMC as a negative control. Data were analyzed using a statistical analysis of variance (ANOVA) test followed by Duncan test. The results showed that Moringa fruit extract lowered blood sugar levels of mice. The means decrease of blood sugar levels for each treatments were 49.67 mg/dL for the first, 58.33 mg/dL for the second, 70.33 mg/dL for the third, 66.67 mg/dL for the fourth, and 10.00 mg/dL for the fifth, . This study concluded that the Moringa fruit extract decreased blood sugar levels of mice with the most effective concentration of 10% and α = 0.05.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to investigate the students’ learning outcomes toward the use of cooperative learning model of Think Pair Share (TPS) on the topic of atomic structure to the tenth year students of SMA 2 Palu. The method used was an experimental research. The population was the tenth year students of SMA 2 Palu in the academic year of 2012/2013. The research used purposive sampling technique (based on the specific reason: the two classes have the same average scores of class). The sample consisted of 32 X-A students as the experimental class (Think Pair Share (TPS) technique) and 32 X-D students as the control class. The data collection was through test on atomic structure. The testing of research data used statistic analysis one tale t-test (right) by employing its prerequisite test of normality and homogeneity. The average score of the experimental class was 12.63 with the deviation standard of 2.82 and of the control class was 9.89 with the deviation standard of 2.70. Based on the hypothesis testing, it was found that tcounted value >ttable or 3.98 > 1.66 with degree of significance of 00.5 and degree of freedom = 62. The Ho was rejected. It is concluded that the learning outcome by using cooperative learning of Think Pair Share technique on the topic of nuclear structure is higher than that of the conventional technique.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify bioactive compounds of moringa (moringa oleifera) extracts and determine the effective concentration on lowering blood cholesterol levels of mice. The animals used were 15 male mice induced by propylthiouracil and fat food diet. The mice were divided randomly into 5 groups with different treatment groups. The first, the second, and the third treatments were given moringa extracts each with a concentration of 10, 20% and 40%. The fourth treatment group was given food fat diet and propiltiorasil as a positive control, and the fifth treatment was given standard food and distilled water as a negative control. Data were analyzed using a statistical analysis of variance (ANOVA) test followed by Duncan test. The results showed that moringa fruit extract contains alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, and tannins. Moringa fruit extract can lower blood cholesterol levels of mice with the most effective concentration of 10%.

Abstract

Diabetes is the oldest disease in the world, the death rate cause by diabetes mellitus is increasing. This study aims to know bioactive substances of avocado leaf and effective concentrate in decreasing the level of mice blood glucose. The study apply experimetal method to analyze bioactive substance in avocado leaf extract qualitatively. Whereas the preclinical testing use random group design. This study used 15 male mice as test animal which are induced with etilen diamin tetra asetat (EDTA). The mice are divided into 5 groups (n=5) randomly with different treatment. Treatment I, II, III are given avocado leaf extarct each with concentrate of 10%, 20% and 40%, treatment IV is given suspension of glibenklamid as a positive control (+) and treatment V is given 1% suspension of sodium carboxymethil cellulose (Na-CMC) as a negative control (-). Data obtained is analysed by using statistical analysis of varians (ANOVA) wich is continued with Duncan test. The research result shows that advocado leaf extract positively contains compounds of alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tanin and steroid. Praclinic test shows that advocado leaf extract proven can lower the level of mice glucose and relatively the most effective concentrate is 10%.

Abstract

Underweight is the leading cause of death of 3.5 million children under five years old (toddlers) in the world. Village of Taipa is one of the villages in Palu who have cases with the highest underweight prevalence by 13.5%. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors of underweight among children aged 24-59 months in Taipa village of Palu. This research is a case-control study. The sample in this research that toddlers who were in the Taipa Village of Palu totaling 99 toddlers consisting of 33 cases and 66 controls. Data was collected through questionnaires and interviews using a semiquantitative FFQ and weight measurements. Data was analyzed by univariate and bivariate statistical tests. Results showed that energy consumption toddlers who have a high risk of 8.413 times the risk of suffering from underweight compared with toddlers whose energy consumption is low risk (CI: 3.036-23.014), toddlers who consume protein has a high risk of 6.091 times the risk of suffering from underweight compared with toddlers the consumption of protein have a low risk (CI: 2.306-16.094) and toddler parenting eating a high risk 3,200 times the risk of underweight compared with parenting a toddler eating a low risk (CI: 1.293-7.922), whereas toddlers ever an infection risk for underweight 2,250 times compared to toddlers who have never experienced an infectious disease and is not significantly significant (CI: 0.810-6.252). Parents should pay more attention to the food intake of infants and health so that nutrients can be met to support their daily activities so as to avoid underweight. Keyword : Underweight, Toddlers, Energy Intake, Protein Intake, Infection, Eat ParentingGizi kurang merupakan penyebab kematian 3,5 juta anak di bawah usia lima tahun (balita) di dunia. Kelurahan Taipa merupakan salah salah satu kelurahan di Kota Palu yang mempunyai kasus gizi kurang tertinggi dengan prevalensi sebanyak 13,5%. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui faktor risiko kejadian gizi kurang pada balita usia 24-59 bulan di Kelurahan Taipa Kota Palu. Jenis penelitian ini adalah case-control study. Sampel dalam penelitian ini yaitu balita yang berada di Kelurahan Taipa Kota Palu yang berjumlah 99 balita yang terdiri dari 33 kasus dan 66 kontrol. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara menggunakan kuesioner dan FFQ semikuantitatif serta pengukuran berat badan. Analisa data dilakukan dengan uji statistik univariat dan bivariat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa balita yang konsumsi energinya memiliki risiko tinggi berisiko 8,413 kali menderita gizi kurang dibandingkan dengan balita yang konsumsi energinya memiliki risiko rendah (CI: 3,036-23,014), balita yang konsumsi proteinnya memiliki risiko tinggi berisiko 6,091 kali menderita gizi kurang dibandingkan dengan balita yang konsumsi proteinnya memiliki risiko rendah (CI: 2,306-16,094) dan balita dengan pola asuh makan yang memiliki risiko tinggi berisiko 3,200 kali menderita gizi kurang dibandingkan balita dengan pola asuh makan yang berisiko rendah (CI: 1,293-7,922), sedangkan balita yang pernah menderita penyakit infeksi berisiko 2,250 kali menderita gizi kurang dibandingkan balita yang tidak pernah mengalami penyakit infeksi dan tidak bermakna signifikan (CI: 0,810-6,252). Sebaiknya para orangtua lebih memperhatikan asupan makanan balita dan kesehatannya agar zat gizi dapat terpenuhi untuk menunjang aktivitas sehari-hari mereka sehingga dapat terhindar dari gizi kurang. Kata Kunci : Gizi Kurang, Balita, Konsumsi Energi, Konsumsi Protein, Penyakit Infeksi, Pola Asuh Makan
