Abstract

Bullying is a social phenomenon that cannot be avoided today. The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) recorded that there were 253 cases of bullying from 2011 to 2016, 36 cases occurred, which if presented, 22.4% of the 161 cases occurred at school. School is no longer a comfortable place to gain knowledge and develop character, if it is not handled well there is a risk of mental disorders, depression and suicide. The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of the HELP adolescent mental health module in preventing bullying in students at SMAN 3 Palu. This research design is Research and Development with a quantitative approach to a quasi experimental, employing a two-group pretest-posttest design with a control group, involving a total of 90 respondents (45 in the intervention group and 45 in the control group). The instrument used was a questionnaire to collect data. Data analysis used univariate analysis, independent T tests, dependent T tests, chi-square tests, and multivariate analysis. All data was analyzed using SPSS. The HELP adolescent mental health module consists of 3 interconnected circles, namely: the innermost circle is teenagers as the focus of intervention, the next circle is teachers and parents whose aim is to provide support and monitoring in preventing bullying. Prevention of adolescent bullying increased after the model intervention, namely increasing from the moderate bullying category to mild bullying by 29.4%. Research in implementing the HELP adolescent mental health module can prevent bullying in adolescents. In further research, it is necessary to innovate methods by adding the use of applications for access to monitoring and evaluation by teenagers and teachers using easily accessible TikTok media in explaining educational material so that it can increase the effectiveness of the module.

Abstract

The research aims to analyze the levels of beta carotene, anthocyanin, antioxidant power (IC50), and yeast numbers of steamed sponge cake mold based on a combination of purple sweet potato flour (Ipomoea Batatas L.) and orange sweet potato flour (Ipomoea Batatas L.) as an alternative post-disaster snack. The type of research was a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) using a ratio of wheat flour and a combination of purple sweet potato flour and orange sweet potato flour, namely 100:0 (F0), 80:20 (F1), 70:30 (F2), 60: 40 (F3), and 50:50 (F4). Data analysis included beta carotene, anthocyanin, IC50 of antioxidant activity, and mold yeast numbers. The steamed sponge cake with the highest anthocyanin content is formula F4 (2.64 mg/100 g), followed by formula F3 (1.57 mg/100 g). The β-carotene levels (mg/100g) show that the F3 formula is the highest, at 38.83 mg/100 g, and the F2 formula is 29.33 mg/100 g. The most potent antioxidant power is the F4 formula of 91.84 µg/mL. Formula F4, at a dilution of 10-6, obtained the lowest yeast number, 7 CFU/mL. Formula F4 is the best formula of the four formulas tested. Formula F4 has high levels of anthocyanin, β-carotene, antioxidant power, and the lowest number of yeast molds.

Abstract

Indonesia, located at the confluence of three major tectonic plates, this situation allows Indonesia to always be under threat of geological disasters. Ternate Island with Mount Gamalama, located in the western part of Halmahera Island, is also a threat of geological disasters. SMP Negeri 13 Kota Ternate, located in a high-risk area of earthquake and volcanic eruption, became the location of the Disaster Preparedness School (SSB) implementation. This activity aims to implement the concept of Disaster Preparedness School to reduce disaster risks and impacts through a comprehensive approach. The research method used a participatory approach with activities including disaster socialization, rescue simulations, science projects to make simple earthquake detection devices, installation of disaster signs, and lectures from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). SSB implementation was carried out through three stages: organizing, interpreting, and applying. The results of the activities show a high level of school resilience with six supporting aspects, but there are still obstacles such as student turnover and limited funds. SSB activities contribute significantly in increasing the awareness and preparedness of school community in facing disasters. It can be concluded that the implementation of SSB in SMP Negeri 13 Ternate City successfully integrated disaster mitigation in the curriculum and school activities. The main recommendation is to increase socialization, implement routine simulations, and develop the resilience aspects of the school in a comprehensive manner.

Abstract

Adolescent mental health is a critical determinant of developmental outcomes, influenced by factors such as parenting, social interaction, and social values. However, empirical research examining these variables concurrently is limited, particularly in urban Indonesian schools. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between parenting styles, social interaction, and social values with the mental health of students at SMPN 9 Palu. A quantitative, cross-sectional design was employed in February 2025, involving 93 eighth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using validated questionnaires for parenting, social interaction, and social values, while mental health was assessed using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). The relationships between variables were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The analysis revealed that parenting (p=0.001), social interaction (p=0.033), and social values (p=0.034) were all significantly associated with adolescent mental health. These findings underscore the necessity of integrated, multi-level interventions targeting family and school environments to foster adolescent psychological well-being. The study concludes that poor parenting, inadequate social interaction, and low social values are significant risk factors for mental health disorders among this population, confirming the pivotal role of the socio-familial environment

Abstract

Introduction: In this study, we aimed to explore the multidimensional social determinants influencing HIV vulnerability among men who have sex with men (MSM) within the context of stigma and exclusion in Indonesia. With high HIV prevalence among MSM and persistent social discrimination, our objective was to examine how social, economic, and structural factors contribute to health risks and hinder access to HIV prevention and care services. Methods: This qualitative study involved a phenomenological approach conducted across the urban setting of Palu, Indonesia, over a three-month period. A total of 15 participants were enrolled, and data were collected through in-depth interviews with purposively selected key informants. Results: The primary outcome of the study was the identification of structural and psychosocial barriers that shape HIV vulnerability, including fear of discrimination, familial rejection, and economic precarity. Additionally, digital platform use and inconsistent condom usage emerged as significant behavioral factors. Statistical analyses were not applicable due to the qualitative nature of the study. However, thematic analysis revealed intersecting themes aligned with the social-ecological model and syndemic theory. Conclusion: In conclusion, our study contributes to the understanding of HIV vulnerability among MSM by highlighting the impact of intersecting stigma, poverty, and systemic exclusion. This research provides insights into the need for community-led and culturally responsive interventions. Future studies should address the integration of economic empowerment strategies and digital outreach mechanisms, ultimately advancing knowledge in the field of international public health.

Abstract

The national movement for accelerating nutrition improvement in the first 1,000 days of life is an effort to strengthen the Indonesian Government's commitment to the national strategic agenda and tackling stunting. This study aimed to determine communication, resources, disposition, and bureaucratic structure in implementing the movement at the Biromaru Primary Health Care (PHC) and Loru Village, Sigi District, Indonesia. The mixed method approach was carried out with informants consisting of several parties from the PHC, health cadres, and the local community through triangulation and questionnaires. The results showed poor communication was inhibited by a lack of community outreach, the attitude of the community’s lack of participation, and the PHC staff’s perceptions (85.14%). There was still insufficient number of health workers as resources (79.73%) who could cover all work areas. While, 75.68% of the health workers considered the disposition to be unfavorable because the incentive budget functioned as an operational budget. Only the bureaucratic structure has been running well, according to 82.43% of PHC staff. Standard operating procedure is required to make the movement run well.
