Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this research was to improve students’ speaking in describing people by using Think-Pair-Share (TPS) technique. This research a classroom action research which was done in three cycles. The subject for this research was the tenth grade students in class X MIPA 1. The researcher observed students improvement in speaking by collecting data through field notes, observation checklist and speaking test. The students’ attitude towards the learning process was gathered by field note and observation checklist. The data of speaking was obtained by speaking test which was assessed through scoring rubric. The result showed that students’ problems in pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension had been solved by using Think-Pair-Share (TPS) as the teaching technique. Furthermore, students’ interest in speaking especially in describing people also improved. It was shown by the students’ enthusiasm to pay attention in doing every activity during teaching and learning process used Think-Pair-Share (TPS) technique. As the conclusion, the technique was able to be used in improving students’ speaking in descriptive text. The writer recommends the teacher to use Think-Pair-Share (TPS) as a technique in teaching and learning process, especially in the teaching speaking with the similar setting and problems.Key words: Describing People, Speaking, Think-Pair-Share.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to solve students? problem in improving listening comprehension, particularly their ability in comprehending specific information and identifying words from listening materials. Moreover, this research is intended to find out how does biography movie can improve the listening comprehension to the year eleven students of SMA Mujahidin Pontianak in academic year 2012 ? 2013. The method used in this research is classroom action research in which the researcher concerned with the improvement of students? listening comprehension in every meeting. This research was conducted in three cycles which consist of one meeting each. In collecting the data, the researcher used achievement test, field notes and observation sheets. The performance test which was used in this research was kind of listening test. The researcher then used scoring rubric to score the students? achievement in listening test. The observation sheets were used to collect qualitative data which was everything happened in teaching and learning process. The improvement of students? listening comprehension could be seen from the result of every meeting. Lebih lanjut, riset ini ditujukan untuk mengetahui bagaimana kisah biografi dapat meningkatkan pemahaman mendengarkan terhadap siswa kelas sebelas di SMA Mujahidin Pontianak tahun ajaran 2012 ? 2013. Metode yang digunakan di dalam riset ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas dimana fokus peneliti di sini yaitu peningkatan pemahaman mendengarkan siswa pada setiap pertemuan. Riset ini telah dilaksanakan dalam tiga tahap terdiri dari satu pertemuan di setiap tahap. Dalam pengumpulan data, peneliti menggunakan achievement test, lembar catatan dan lembar observasi. Tes kinerja yang digunakan di dalam riset ini adalah tes mendengarkan. Peneliti kemudian menggunakan rubrik penilaian untuk menilai pencapaian siswa dalam tes mendengarkan. Lembar observasi digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data kualitatif yang terjadi selama proses belajar mengajar. Abstract

AbstractThis research was aimed to know whether or not there was a significant improvement on the eighth grade students? speaking achievement who were taught by using Cue Cards as a teaching medium. This research was carried out through pre-experimental design that consisted of one-group pre-test post-test. The sample of this research was the eighth grades students of SMP N 22 Pontianak. The number of students was 29. The technique of selecting the sample was cluster random sampling. The tool of collecting the data included oral test which was divided into two stages, pre-test and post-test. The score of pre-test and post-test were analyzed by using t-test and the effect size. The result of t-test was 3.568 and the effect size was 0.64. This indicates that the effect is moderate. The writer concludes that there is a significant effect of using Cue Cards in teaching speaking at the second year of SMP N 22 Pontianak. Keywords: Speaking, Cue Cards, Pre-experimental design.

Abstract

Character education for students is considered very important to be implemented immediately in the education unit. The implementation will be more effective if the teacher is able to place himself as an example for his students. Before character building for students, the teacher is emphasized to first have character. The character of the teacher who has character will have a positive effect on the development of the character of students both from speech, attitude, behavior, appearance, and habits in school and in the community.   Pendidikan karakter bagi peserta didik dirasa sangat penting untuk segera dilaksanakan di satuan pendidikan. Pelaksanaanya akan lebih efektif apabila guru mampu menempatkan diri sebagai teladan bagi peserta didiknya. Sebelum melakukan pembinaan karakter kepada peserta didik maka guru ditekankan untuk terlebih dahulu berkarakter. Sosok guru yang berkarakter akan memberi efek positif bagi perkembangan karakter peserta didik baik dari tutur kata, sikap, perilaku, penampilan, dan kebiasaan di sekolah maupun di lingkungan masyarakat.

Abstrak:Penelitianinibertujuanuntukmeningkatkankemampuansiswadalammemahamiteksnaratif. Penelitianinidilakukanpadasiswakelas VIII SMP Negeri 14 Pontianak tahunakademik 2011/2012.Metode yang digunakandalampenelitianiniadalahpenelitiantindakankelas.Subjek penelitianiniterdiriatas 30 siswadarikelas VIIIC. Dalam penelitian ini peneliti bertindak sebagai guru.Data penelitiandidapatkandenganmenggunakanteknikpenilaiandanobservasidandianalisamenggunakanceklisobservasi, catatanlapangandannilai rata-rata siswa.Ada tigasiklusdalampenelitianini.Hasilpenelitianmenunjukkanbahwanilai rata-rata siswapadasikluspertamayaitu 60,7, sikluskeduayaitu 63,3, danpadasiklusketigayaitu 68,1. Nilaiinimenunjukkanbahwasiswatelahberhasilmencapaikriteriaketuntasan minimum (KKM) di sekolahiniyaitu 65.Padasikluspertamasiswasudahmampumenentukan ide utama.Teknikinimembantusiswadalammemahamiapa yang dimaksudolehpenulisdanbisamengambilkesimpulandariteksnaratif yang diberikan. This research was conducted to eighth year students of SMP Negeri 14 Pontianak in academic year 2011/2012.The method of this research is classroom action researchThesubjectwas taken fromclass VIII C that consistsed of 30 students.The researcher acted as the teacher during the research period. The data were collected by using measurement and observation techniques and analyzed by describing the observation checklist, field note, and the students’ score. The researcher conducted the research in three cycles. The research findings show that the mean score of students’ reading comprehension test in the first cycle is 60.7, the second cycle is 63.3, and in the third cycle is68.1It means that students successfully pass the KriteriaKetuntasan Minimum (KKM) in this school that is65.This technique helped the students in understanding what the author meant and in drawing the conclusion from the narrative text given to them. The objective of the study is to know how well the Students ability in comprehending narrative text. It is expected that the research would be useful for the teachers and students in language teaching and learning process. The method used in this research is a Descriptive Research whichis aimed at describing the characteristics of subjects. The population of the study was the eight Grade Students of SMP KemalaBhayangkariKubu Raya in Academic Years 2012/2013. The number of research samplewas 30 students. The technique used for collecting data was measurement technique and direct observation technique. The tool of collecting data was reading test. Based on the research finding, the students were still weak at reading comprehension. They were weak at finding orientation, complication, resolution, reorientation and vocabulary. Abstract

Abstrak: penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) pada siswa kelas sebelas MA Negeri 02 Pontianak tahun ajaran 2011/2012. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa baik cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC) membantu siswa dalam memahami teks. Alat pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah lembar observasi, catatan lapangan, dan tes tertulis. Hasil data penelitian dianalisis menggunakan rubrik penilaian. Analisa tes siswa meliputi kemampuan siswa dalam menemukan ide pokok, gagasan pendukung, referensi, memahami kesimpulan dan kosa kata serta membuat ringkasan. Kemampuan siswa dalam memahami teks bacaan hortatory exposition meningkat dalam tiga siklus, dari 4,87 (pilihan ganda) dan 6,54 (esei) pada siklus pertama, kemudian meningkat pada siklus kedua, 7,72 (pilihan ganda) dan 4,55 (esei) dan mencapai 8,6 (pilihan ganda) dan 8,7 (esei) pada siklus ketiga. Kata kunci: cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC), teks hortatori eksposisi, memahami bacaan. Abstract: This study was a classroom action research (CAR) at eleventh grade students of MA Negeri 02 Pontianak in academic year 2011/2012. The aim of this research is to know how well cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC) help the students in reading comprehension. The tools of data collecting in this research were observation checklist, field note and writing test. Data was analyzed by using scoring profile. The analysis of students test result covered students ability in finding out the main idea, details, reference, understanding the inference and vocabulary and making the summary of text. The students ability in reading comprehension hortatory exposition text improved in three cycles, from 4.87 (multiple choice) and 6.54 (essay) in cycle 1, then improved in cycle 2, 7.72(multiple choice) and 4.55 (essay), up to 8.6 (multiple choice) and 8.7 (essay) in cycle 3. Abstract

Abstract: This research was designed to answer the research questions about the significance and the size effect of the use of ERRQ reading strategy to teach inference making from spoof text. The sample was grade- XI IPA in SMA SANTUN UNTAN that consisted of thirty students. The data were collected by a multiple choice test and analyzed by t-test and size effect formula. The findings show that the use of ERRQ reading strategy increase students ability in inference-making significantly and the level of the effectiveness is classified as high. Key words: Teaching, Inference, ERRQ strategy, Spoof Abstrak: Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian mengenai signifikansi dan tingkat efektifitas dari penggunaan strategy membaca ERRQ dalam pengajaran memahami makna tersirat dari teks spoof. Sampel penelitian ini adalah kelas XI IPA SMA SANTUN UNTAN yang terdiri dari tiga puluh siswa. Data penelitian didapatkan dengan menggunakan tes pilihan ganda dan dianalisa menggunakan rumus t-test serta rumus tingkat efektifitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa strategi membaca ERRQ meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami makna tersirat secara signifikan dan diklasifikasikan tingkat efektivitasnya tinggi. Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini adalah tentang meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa menggunakan ekspresi bertanya dan memberikan pendapat melalui role play. Adapun metodologi yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang meliputi 3 (tiga) cycle. Subjek penelitian adalah kelas 8 (delapan) SMPN 2 Mandor yang terdiri dari 34 orang siswa. Dengan menggunakan teknik role play para murid dapat memainkan karakter dengan menggunakan skrip yang telah disiapkan. Disamping itu, disamping itu, para murid dapat merefleksikan kegiatan role play untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mereka. Untuk menyelesaikan penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan observasi, test kemampuan berbicara, test grammar, tes kosa kata dan field note dengan menggunakan teknik role play perlahan-lahan kemampuan berbicara siswa meningkat demikian pula kosa kata, grammar dan pengucapan mereka.Pencapaian siswa dalam setiap cycle adalah 53.17 untuk cycle 1, 62.74 untuk cycle 2 dan 77.92 untuk cycle3. Kata Kunci: bermain peran, ketrampilan berbicara. Abstract: This research is about improving students speaking skills to express asking and giving opinion through role play. The methodology of this research is a classroom action research which consisted of 3 cycles. The subject of this research was the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Mandor consisting of 34 students. By applying role play technique in asking and giving opinion, the students played their character using prepared scripts. In addition, the students reflected that role play activity could improve their speaking skill. Meanwhile, in collecting the data, the writer used the observation, speaking performance test, grammar test, vocabulary test and field note through role play technique, the students gradually increased their speaking skill as well as vocabulary and they also paid attention to an appropriate grammar and a proper pronunciation. The result from each cycle (53.17 on cycle 1, 62.74 on cycle 2 and 77.92 on cycle3). Even students fulfilled KKM (standard achievement) on cycle 2. Key Word: role play, speaking skill. .

Abstract

AbstractThe research aimed to know how tongue twister can improve students’ pronunciation skill at the 7th grade students in Class 7B of SMPN 19 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. The research conducted through Classroom Action Research in three cycles. The subjects of this research were the 34 students in class 7B. The problems that students faced werethe students’ lack of confidence and the students’lack of ability to pronounce English words appropriately. The researcher used observation checklists, field notes, and a pronunciation test as tools to collect the data. The result showed that tongue twistertechnique could improve students’ pronunciation. Moreover, tongue twister sentences could improve the ability to use correct word stress, the ability in using correct intonation, and improve students’ ability to decrease the pauses and hesitation to pronounce the English word. The result indicate the students’ pronunciation improve of each cycle by using tongue twister technique. In the first cycle, the students’ mean score was 67%, 77,5%in the second cycle, and 89% in the third cycle. Therefore, the tongue twister technique improved students’ pronunciation skill.
