Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has advanced rapidly over the past two decades, creating opportunities to address ecological and agricultural challenges by integrating computational methods with genetics. This study aims to map the scientific landscape of research at the intersection of AI, insect population genetics, and coffee agroecosystems. A bibliometric analysis was conducted using the Scopus database, covering publications from 1978 to 2025 and employing co-occurrence, co-authorship, centrality, and co-citation analyses supported by VOSviewer for visualization. The results show a significant growth in publications since 2010, with the United States and Brazil as leading contributors, while collaborations among influential authors and institutions have shaped three main clusters: ecology and agroecosystem management, insect–pest interactions and biological control, and genetics with molecular approaches to plant metabolism. The co-citation network further highlights the integration of pest ecology, biodiversity conservation, and the economic value of pollinators as central themes. These findings indicate that AI–genetics integration is increasingly pivotal for sustainable coffee management, with future research directions emphasizing predictive modeling of pest and pollinator dynamics under climate variability, alongside investigations into soil microbiomes and pollinator health to enhance resilience in coffee production systems.

Abstract

Pesawaran is one of the areas that has the potential to cultivate stingless bees as producers of honey and propolis. This study was aimed at qualitatively analysing partial amplicons of the 16S rRNA gene from individuals found at the research site. The research was performed from April to September 2023 in an explorative approach. Based on the exploration that has been done in Harapan Jaya Village, Way Ratai District, Pesawaran Regency, individual stingless bees were obtained from 5 different colonies. Individual samples of stingless bees were further extracted and amplified by commercial kits. Each individual from 5 different colonies has successfully obtained its DNA amplicons. Based on qualitative analysis using 1% agarose gel, the size of the partial gene ranged from 400bp to 500bp. This result is in accordance with the data contained in the genbank, where the 16S rRNA gene size is more than 500bp. Therefore, it has been concluded that the size of the partial amplicons of the 16S rRNA gene of individual stingless bees from the 5 colonies that were obtained is actually in range of the size of the 16S rRNA gene of stingless bees that have been recorded in the genbank.

Abstract

Abstract

Soil insects play a crucial role in maintaining ecosystem balance and supporting soil fertility, particularly within coffee plantation ecosystems. This study aims to analyze the diversity of soil insects by comparing results from artificial intelligence (AI)-based predictions and field explorations to obtain a comprehensive understanding of community structure. The research was conducted in a smallholder coffee plantation located in Wiyono Village, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung. Field data were collected using the pitfall trap method, while AI-based predictions were generated utilizing a dataset derived from 14 relevant scientific publications. Data analysis employed the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H′) to evaluate differences between predicted and observed results. The findings revealed that the AI-based prediction estimated an H′ value of 1.787 (moderate diversity), whereas the field exploration yielded an H′ value of 0.428 (low diversity). This discrepancy is influenced by dataset limitations, species dominance, and selectivity inherent in the sampling method. The results highlight the importance of integrating AI-based predictive approaches with field validation to enhance the accuracy of biodiversity assessments. This study contributes to the development of AI-driven prediction models and supports sustainable management of coffee plantation ecosystems.
