Abstract

AbstractThis research was aimed to improve students’ adjective vocabulary by using bubble map through descriptive text writing to Class B students of Year-7 in MTs Darussalam Sengkubang Academic Year 2017 / 2018 membership 22 students. The research question was how well the use of bubble map included word mapping and write simple sentences improve students’ adjective vocabulary mastery. This research was a classroom action research with three cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Field note, observation checklist, interview, and individual test were used as the tools to collect the data. The finding of this research was that there was significant improvement from cycle to cycle. Through the implementation of bubble map to teach adjective vocabulary improved qualitatively and quantitatively. By using bubble map through descriptive text writing, the students developed their critical thinking in finding the new adjective vocabulary by creating and exploring their ideas into a map.Keywords:  Adjective Vocabulary, Bubble map, Classroom Action Research, Writing Descriptive Text.

Abstract

Bahasa sebagai medium komunikasi berperan penting dalam mengelola hubungan antarindividu atau kelompok. Komunikasi yang baik akan menghasilkan hubungan yang lebih erat dan bersahabat, sedangkan komunikasi yang kurang baik akan menghasilkan hubungan yang kurang baik pula. Dengan demikian, komunikasi harus ditata dengan indah agar komunikasi dapat berjalan dengan lancar. Mengajar adalah suatu proses berdialog antara dua individu atau lebih. Dialog adalah suatu proses menyampaikan ide atau menyampaikan pendapat kepada orang lain. Penyampaian pendapat atau ide tersebut sama saja dengan proses berkomunikasi. Abstract

Data untuk penelitian ini diperoleh dari Kecamatan Paloh, Sajingan, Subah dan Teluk Keramat Kabupaten Sambas dan dari Kecamatan Entikong, Sekayam, Beduai dan Kembayan Kabupaten Sanggau. Teknik yang dipergunakan untuk pengambilan data adalah teknik survey. Alat pengumpul data terdiri atas format isian data untuk mengumpulkan data mengenai lulusan SD dan data mengenai lulusan SD yang melanjutkan ke SMP dan pedoman wawancara untuk menghimpun informasi yang bersifat kualitatif dari sumber data seperti Kepala Dinas dan Kepala Cabang Dinas Pendidikan. Data diolah dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Masalah yang dikemukakan dalam penelitian ini adalah gambaran aksesibilitas dan partisipasi masyarakat dalam Pendidikan Dasar 9 Tahun berdasarkan angka transisi dan faktor-faktor penghambat dalam pelaksanaan Program Wajib Belajar 9 Tahun di daerah perbatasan di Kabupaten Sambas dan Sanggau. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) sebanyak 456 atau 18,38 % dari 2479 orang lulusan Sekolah Dasar dan/atau sederajat di 4 kecamatan daerah perbatasan di kabupaten Sambas pada tahun 2008/2009 tidak melanjutkan sekolah ke tingkat Sekolah Menengah Pertama dan/atau sederajat; (2) sebanyak 305 atau 17,93 % dari 1701 orang lulusan Sekolah Dasar dan/atau sederajat di 4 kecamatan daerah perbatasan di kabupaten Sanggau pada tahun 2008/2009 tidak melanjutkan sekolah ke tingkat Sekolah Menengah Pertama dan/atau sederajat; (3) faktor-faktor penghambat meliputi: sosial-budaya, ekonomi, geografi dan demografi. Abstract

Abstract: The study presented of how students are taught by using guided writing. It showed the implementation of the scientific approach in teaching and learning process particularly in teaching writing. This research applies a CAR (classroom action research) to the tenth grade students of Computer and Networking Program of SMKN 1 Bengkayang in Academic Year 2014/2015.  The Classroom Action Research was conducted in three cycles. Each cycles consisted of four steps: planning, action, observation and reflection. In collecting the data, the researcher used test, observation checklist, questionnaires, and photograph or documents of students writing product. The result of the research shows that guided writing could improve the students? writing skill. Through guided writing, the students showed great interest and actively involved in the teaching and learning process. The students were able to construct sentences correctly. In this case, the sentences they constructed were based on the researcher?s explanation and examples. They also used more vocabularies in their writing. The study showed that there was an improvement on the students? writing skill. The researcher suggests that English teacher is better to implement scientific approach helped by guided writing in their class in order to help the students improve their writing skill. Keywords: Curriculum 2013, Scientific Approach, Guided Writing Abstrak : Penelitian ini membahas tentang implementasi pendekatan saintifik dengan menggunakan teknik Guided Writing pada pengajaran writing. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas pada kelas X Jurusan Teknik Komputer dan Jaringan SMK Negeri 1 Bengkayang tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam tiga siklus. Masing-masing siklus nya terdiri dari empat langkah yaitu: perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan dan refleksi. Pada pengumpulan data kualitatif, peneliti menggunakan data penilaian observasi, dokumentasi dan dokumen-dokumen seperti hasil menulis siswa. Pada pengumpulan data kuantitatif, peneliti memberikan soal tes di setiap akhir masing-masing siklus. Dari hasil tersebut, maka penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa teknik Guided Writing dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa. Dengan menggunakan teknik ini pula, siswa dapat berperan aktif dalam proses belajar mengajar di kelas. Dalam hal ini, siswa dapat menulis kalimat dengan benar berdasarkan penjelasan dan contoh-contoh yang diberikan peneliti. Kata kunci: Kurikulum 2013, Pendekatan Saintifik, Guided Writing

Abstract

AbstractThis study wasaimed to know how students? participation in learning recount text improved through peer review technique. The study was conducted through Classroom Action Research which was done in two cycles. The subjects of the research were the English teacher and 16 students of class X MIPA 1 at MA Al-Ma?arifSintang in academic year 2017/2018. The writer used observation checklists and field notes as instruments of data collection. The finding showed that applying Peer Review technique improved students? participation from cycle to cyle. In the first cycle, the students actively participated in learning simple past tense (was/were) in recount text. However, the students? participation in the first cycle was not good enough and most of students were still get low result of participation, the writer conducted the second cycle. In the second cycle, the students improved their participation in learning regular and irregular verbs. In conclusion, students? participation on learning recount text specifically in simple past tense improved through Peer Review technique. Keywords: Students? Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this research is to find the cultural content and context in the textbook ?When English Rings A Bell?. The method of this research is content analysis. There was one type of  tool of colecting data in content analysis the researcher used matrix in cultural category based on malay culture perspective and interviewed the owner of Malay culture to get the information in source culture. The study finds that The books present mostly the source culture (Indonesian Culture) in comparison to target culture and international culture. This ratio is quite ideal as English is taught as a Foreign Language thus English textbook in Indonesian context are aimed at focusing more on local content while introducing the learners to the target culture and international.  From the source culture there is 67 %  Pontianak Malay content, it is indicated that the books is compatible in the culture context . Based on Littlejohn framework has  been recomended to be used .   Key Words: Textbook evaluation , Cultural content and context ,   Source    culture. Abstrak Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan konten dan konteks budaya dalam buku ?When English Rings A Bell?. Metode penelitian ini adalah analisis konten. Ada satu jenis alat pengumpul data dalam analisis konten peneliti menggunakan matriks dalam kategori budaya berdasarkan perspektif budaya melayu dan mewawancarai pemilik budaya Melayu untuk mendapatkan informasi dalam budaya sumber. Studi ini menemukan bahwa Buku tersebut menyajikan sebagian besar budaya sumber (Budaya Indonesia) dibandingkan dengan menargetkan budaya (Inggris) dan budaya internasional. Rasio ini cukup ideal sebagai bahasa Inggris diajarkan sebagai bahasa asing sehingga buku teks bahasa Inggris dalam konteks Indonesia ditujukan untuk lebih fokus pada konten lokal sambil memperkenalkan para peserta didik dengan budaya target dan internasional. Dari budaya sumber ada 67% konten Melayu Pontianak, dalam hal ini menunjukkan bahwa buku tersebut kompatibel dalam konteks budaya. Abstract

Abstract. This research was conducted in Level B kindergarten students at TK Kristen Immanuel I Pontianak which is located at JL. Gajah Mada No. 250, Pontianak, Kalimantan Barattoprove that the use of story book “Pee Wee at the Farm” is an effective way to introduce English.In collecting the data, the researcher used qualitative and quantitative assessment by using interview and observation sheet as the qualitative assessment, and oral test as the quantitative assessment where the students were asked some questions and repeated them.In the result it can be found that introducing English to kindergarten students using story book “Pee Wee at the Farm” was an effective way to attract and motivate the students’ interest in English.It was shown that all of the 20 students got the extraordinary score, means that the students were able to repeat and understand more than 7 simple sentences taught based on the story book. There were 18 students got the perfect score, means that the students were able to repeat and understand all 10 simple English sentences. There was only one student that was able to repeat and understand 7 sentences and only one student that was able for 8 sentences. Keywords: English Story Book, Introduce, Effectiveness.   Abstrak. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada siswa taman kanak-kanak Tingkat B TK Immanuel I yang terletak di Jl. Gajah Mada No. 250, Pontianak Kalimantan Barat untuk membuktikan bahwa penggunaan buku “Pee Wee at the Farm” adalah sebuah cara yang efektif untuk memperkenalkan bahasa Inggris. Dalam mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan penilaian kualitatif dan kuantitatif dengan menggunakan lembat wawancara dan observasi sebagai penilaian kualitatif, dan uji oral sebagai penilaian kuantitatif dimana siswa ditanyakan dan diminta mengulangi materi. Hasil yang ditemukan adalah bahwa memperkenalkan bahasa Inggris kepada siswa taman kanak-kanak menggunakan buku cerita “Pee Wee at the Farm” adalah sebuah cara yang efektif untuk menarik dan memotivasi ketertarikan siswa pada bahasa Inggris. Ditunjukkan bahwa ke-20 siswa memperoleh nilai diatas rata-rata, dimana mereka mampu mengulang dan memahami lebih dari 7 sampel kalimat sederhana yang diajarkan dari buku cerita tersebut. Ada 18 siswa memperoleh nilai sempurna, yaitu mereka yang mampu mengulangi dan memahami 10 kalimat Inggris sederhana. Hanya ada 1 siswa yang mampu mengulangi dan memahami 7 kalimat.   Kata kunci : Buku Bahasa Inggris, Mengenalkan, Efektifitas

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this research is to improve students’ speaking ability, especially in fluency and accuracy. This research was conducted at the eight grade students of SMPN 3 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. In this research, the subject is class VIIIF that consists of 38 students. The researcher conducted a classroom action research. The data were collected by observation and measurement technique. The tools of data collecting were observation checklist, field note, and scoring rubric for assessing speaking (performance test). Guessing game was used as the technique in this research which was conducted in two cycles. The research findings showed that the mean score of students’ speaking test improved from 1.68 for accuracy and 1.84 for fluency in the first cycle to 2.13 for accuracy and 2.26 for fluency in the second cycle. The improvements of this study were particularly in students’ speaking aspect, especially accuracy and fluency. Keywords: Speaking, accuracy and fluency, guessing game.

Abstract

AbstrackThe aims of this study were: (1) to find out the target needs of seventh grade students , (2) to find out the learning needs of seventh grade students’ and (3) to develop appropriate English learning materials for the seventh grade students. As the basic skills, reading is difficult to learn. This condition may affect students reading interest and motivation. Students’ lack reading motivation influences their ability in reading English. The objective study is to develop reading materials for the seventh grade students of SMPN 6 Dedai in Academic Year 2017/2018  that are expected to increase the students reading skills. This study applied Research and Developmental method. The instruments used to obtain the data were questionnaire and interview. The questionnaires consisted of needs analysis questionnaires and materials evaluations questionnares. The developed materials were evaluated by English teachers and the lecture. The evaluation and feedback provided by the teachers and instructors were then used as the basis for revisions. The evaluation was described in terms of central tendency. The result of evaluation showed that the mean the degree of agreement of the statements range from 4.1 to 4.3, indicating that the developed of reading materials was ready to be implemented. Keywords : developing, comic,  reading,  materials

Abstract

AbstractThe implementation of curriculum 2013 contains complex aspects and a high standard of national education target. Changing elements from curriculum KTSP into curriculum 2013 must be understood, adopted, adapted and manifested in the teaching and learning process by the teachers. The eight Standards of National Education as the guideline for the teachers in implementing curriculum 2013 are obligatory. These standards include (1) Standard of Content, (2) Standard of Graduation Competency, (3) Standard of Process, (4) Standard of Educator and Education Staff, (5) Standard of Facilities, (6) Standard of Management, (7) Standard of Finance, and (8) Standard of Evaluation or Assessment. However, there are constraints faced by English teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Bengkayang in implementing curriculum 2013. A case study was designed to solve this problem. There were three sources of data used in this research, namely documentation of curriculum 2013 of SMA  Negeri 1 Bengkayang, interview and direct-observation toward the implementation of curriculum 2013 in teaching learning activity. The results establish that the common constraints faced by the English teachers were the standard of graduation competency, the standard of evaluation/assessment, the standard of process and the standard of facilities. One of the efforts that can be done in solving these teachers? constraints is by discussing the problems to the principal and the school community based on the constraints that they face. Moreover, the government as the authority responsible for the implementation of the curriculum has to give more training and guidance to the teachers. Keywords: Curriculum 2013, Implementation, EFL Teachers?
