Abstract

 AbstractThis research is aimed at improving students’ speaking activeness using flashcards media in teaching learning process. The subject of this research is class VIII C students at SMP Kemala Bhyangkari Sungai Raya in academic year 2017/2018. This research was done by asking and answering the materials to make the students active in speaking. In this research, the researcher implemented flashcards as the media. Therefore, the method used in this research is a classroom action research in which the researcher concerned with the improvement of students’ activeness in every meeting. This research was conducted in two cycles. In collecting the data the researcher observed the improvement of students’ activeness in speaking through observation checklist, field notes, and activeness table. The result of this research showed that flashcards media can improve the students’ activeness in speaking by asking and answering the materials. The students’ individual score in activeness also improved in teaching learning process. From the result, it can be concluded that students’ activeness in speaking by asking and answering the materials taught by flashcards media was improved. In addition, this media can help students to speak actively.                          Keywords: Flashcards, Speaking Activeness, Classroom Action Research.

Abstract

AbstractStudying English in school as part of the main subject where it became important. This intrinsic motivation was investigated in order to know what kind of intrinsic motivation that could push or pull the students to make them interested in studying English subject. The subject for this research was the Twelfth GradeSMAN2 Pontianak. The data showed that Satisfaction is the most intrinsic motivation that could affect their study with 74.92%. While the statement that shows the students motivation is “because I feel English is an important language in the economic development of the world” got 82.94%. This percentage shows students’ main reason to study English subject weren’t only because of the important language in the economic development of the world, but also general satisfaction for the students themselves and is considered as the Intrinsic Motivation could really affect their study of English Subject. It proves that the students have their Intrinsic Motivation, especially in satisfaction category. Keyword : Students’ Intrinsic Motivation, English Subject

Abstract

This research is about teaching pronunciation of one syllable words to differentiate phoneme /p/ and /f/ by using minimal pairs technique to the fifth grade students of SDN 08 DELTA PAWAN Ketapang in academic year 2012/2013. The research method applied is a Pre-Eperimental study.  The result of this research shows that the alternative hypothesis is accepted with high effective category.  It proves that the achievement of students improve with the interval score of pre test and post test 44,2. The mean of pre test score is 47,9 and the mean of post test score is 92,1. In addition, the significance of effect size achievement of Pre test and Post test is 4,97 which indicates that t-test score is higher than t-table (2.060).   it indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that teaching pronunciation by using minimal pairs technique to the fifth grade students of SDN 08 DELTA PAWAN in academic year 2012/2013 can improve students’ ability in differentiating the pronunciation of phoneme /p/ and /f/ effectively. Keyword: Minimal Pairs, Phoneme /p/, /f/.   Abstrak: Pengajaran pengucapan phoneme /p/ dan /f/ dengan menggunakan teknik minimal pairs terhadap siswa kelas 5 SDN 08 Delta Pawan Ketapang.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan   teknik minimal pairs terhadap kemampuan siswa untuk membedakan pengucapan phoneme /p/ dan /f/ pada siswa kelas 5 SDN 08 Delta Pawan Ketapang.     Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode pre-experimental. Berdasarkan perhitungan statistik dari rata-rata hasil pre test adalah 47,9 dan hasil post test adalah 92,1. Maka  diperoleh interval hasil pre test dan post test adalah 44,2, t hitung diperoleh 4,97 dan t tabel (α = 5% dan dk = 25) adalah 2,060, yang berarti Ha diterima. Dan dari perhitungan effect size diperoleh effect size sebesar 0,99 (kriteria tinggi).   Hal ini berarti pengajaran pengucapan dengan teknik minimal pairs memiliki efektifitas yang tinggi untuk membedakan phoneme /p/ dan /f/. Abstract

Abstract: This research is to find out whether the use of simulation significantly influenced the speaking ability on the eleventh grade students of SMK LKIA Pontianak. This is a pre-experimental. The sample of this research was class XI TN that consists of 32 students. The tool of data collecting of this research was a speaking test. Based on the findings, it showed that there was significant difference score before and after taught by simulation. The students’ mean score of pre-test was 50. Then, the students’ mean score of the post-test was 61. Thus it was categorized as moderate influence. From the result of paired t-test, the students’ achievement after taught by simulation showed tratio = 12.016 is higher than tcritical = 2.042, so it can be concluded that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, but alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Therefore, the writer concluded that teaching speaking by using simulation was succed.   Keywords: speaking, simulation, eleventh grade students, pre-experimental Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan simulasi secara signifikan mempengaruhi kemampuan berbicara pada siswa SMK LKIA Pontianak. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pre-eksperimen. Sampel penelitian ini menggunakan kelas XI TN yang terdiri dari 32 siswa. Alat pengumpulan data dari penelitian ini adalah tes berbicara. Berdasarkan temuan, menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan hasil nilai berbicara siswa yang signifikan pada sebelum dan setelah diajarkan dengan menggunakan metode simulasi. Hasil nilai rata-rata pada pre-test siswa adalah 50. Selanjutnya, hasil nilai rata-rata pada post-test siswa adalah 61. Dengan demikian, hasil tersebut dapat dikategorikan sebagai cukup berpengaruh. Dari hasil uji-t berpasangan, prestasi siswa setelah diajarkan dengan imenggunakan simulasi menunjukkan t-ratio = 12,016 lebih tinggi dari t-critical = 2,042, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa nol hipotesis (Ho) ditolak, tetapi alternatif hipotesis (Ha) diterima. Oleh karena itu, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa pengajaran berbicara dengan menggunakan metode simulasi telah sukses.   Kata kunci : berbicara, siswa kelas sebelas, pre-eksperimen

Abstract

AbstractThe students were lacking of vocabulary. One of the factors was teaching media. In order to enrich the students’ vocabulary, the writer used flashcards as teaching media. The purpose of this research is to improve the students’ vocabulary using flashcards to The Eighth Grade Students Class C of SMPN 10 Pontianak. Based on the writer’s experiences during teaching, the students were lack of vocabulary. Therefore, this research is expected to find a solution to the students’ problem in mastering vocabulary. The method used in this research is a Classroom Action Research which consists of Planning, Acting, Observing, and Reflecting. This method was done in two cycles in order to get better result of the research. The subject of the study is Eighth Grade Students Class C of SMPN 10 Pontianak. The number if research participant is 38 students. The technique used for collecting data is by observation. The findings of this research were that the students’ progress during teaching and learning activity in classroom that the students did the discussion group and presented the result of the group discussion in front of the class. The students did the the assessment in the form of multiple choices after the discussion. Key Words: Vocabulary, Flashcard

Abstract

AbstractThe research was designed to analyze the teacher’s talk in a classroom interaction. It refers to how the teacher managed their time or opportunity in terms of talking in front of the classroom. It was to answer: a) how long the teacher used the English language; b) what expressions the teacher explained the material; c) and how the classroom interaction was. The researcher adapted FIAC (Flanders interaction analysis categories system) to analyze the data. The data were collected through observation, questionnaire, and interview. The findings showed that the talk was still dominated by the teacher. It was only few opportunities for the students to talk. The interaction was not based on: teacher-student interaction and student-student interaction, but teacher based interactionKeywords: teacher’s talk, classroom, interaction

Abstract

Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan teknik Problem Posing dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa kepada mahasiswa semester pertama dari Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Program Mahasiswa Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Tanjungpura Pontianak, sehingga metode yang tepat adalah dengan menggunakan teknik penelitian eksperimental. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan teknik pengukuran berupa tes pilihan ganda yang terdiri dari 20 soal dan diterapkan dalam Pre-Test dan Post-Test. Sampel terdiri dari 25 siswa. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa teknik Problem Posing efektif untuk mengajarkan pemahaman membaca. T-test (3,18) lebih tinggi dari t-tabel (2,06) pada tingkat signifikansi 5%. Berdasarkan perhitungan ukuran efek, penggunaan teknik Problem Posing efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami teks, dengan skor ES> 0,9 yang dikategorikan tinggi. Kata Kunci: Problem Posing, Pre-Experimental, Keefektivitasan Abstract: The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of using problem posing technique in improving students reading comprehension to the first semester students of the English Education Program Students of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Tanjungpura University Pontianak, thus the appropriate method applied was pre-experimental research. The data was obtained by using measurement technique in form of multiple choice tests consisted of 20 items which was applied in Pre-Test and Post-Test. The sample consisted of 25 students. The finding of this research showed that Problem Posing Technique was effective to teach reading comprehension. The t-test (3,18) is higher than the t-table (2,06) on the level of significance 5%. Based on the computation of effect size, the use of Problem Posing Technique was effective to increase the student ability in comprehending the text, the score of ES > 0,9 and categorized as high. Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to find out how the implementation of RAFT (Role, Audience, Format and Topic) strategy enhanced the students’ skill in writing a formal letter and to investigate how RAFT strategy improved the students’ writings in Grade 10 “SMA Tunas Bangsa Kubu Raya”. This research is a classroom action research. The subject of this research numbered 15 students. Having conducted three cycles of action research, the researcher found out that the teaching practice improved and the result of students’ writing scores also improved from cycle to cycle in terms of content and language. The students were able to write more effectively as they were aware who they were writing as, to whom they were writing, what format their writing was and the topic of their writing. The students wrote more purposively and focused after being introduced to RAFT writing strategy. Keywords: RAFT, writing skill, formal letter   Abstrak:Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui implementasi strategi RAFT (Role, Audience, Format and Topic) dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis surat resmi dan untuk menelusuri bagaimana strategi tersebut berdampak pada tulisan siswa di kelas 10 SMA Tunas Bangsa Kubu Raya. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam bentuk penelitian tindakan kelas dengan 15 siswa sebagai subjek penelitian. Dalam 3 siklus yang telah dilaksanakan, ditemukan bahwa kegiatan mengajar meningkat dan nilai tulisan siswa meningkat dari satu siklus ke siklus lainnya, khususnya dalam aspek isi dan bahasa. Siswa menulis dengan lebih efektif karena mereka lebih memperhatikan peran mereka sebagai penulis, kepada siapa mereka menulis, format serta topik tulisan mereka. Siswa juga lebih memperhatikan tujuan tulisan mereka setelah strategi menulis RAFT dikenalkan pada mereka. Kata kunci: RAFT, kemampuan menulis, surat resmi

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to identify students’ difficulties in writing hortatory exposition text at high intermediate level in Gajahmada English course. The method used is a descriptive study. The sample of the study is 10 students at high intermediate level of Gajahmada English course. The tool of data collecting was a written test that the students wrote hortatory exposition text. The finding showed the average of students’ score is “60.2” which is categorize “Difficult”. In grammar, students difficulties in arranging the tense and the compound-complex sentences. In mechanic, students difficulties in spelling, punctuation and word choice. In vocabulary, students difficulties in using of personal noun, abstract noun, general noun, action verb, verb, adverb and adjectives. In content, students able wrote the text, but their difficulties on the relevant details among thesis, arguments and recommendation. Keywords: Identification, students’ difficulties, hortatory exposition Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi kesulitan siswa menulis teks hortatory exposition pada level high intermediate di bimbingan belajar Gajahmada. Metode penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif. Peserta penelitian adalah siswa bimbingan belajar Gajahmada level high intermediate, terdapat 10 peserta sebagai sampel. Alat mengumpulkan data yaitu sebuah tes tertulis, yakni siswa menulis teks hortatori exposisi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rata-rata nilai 60,2 dikategorikan “sulit”. Struktur bahasa, siswa kesulitan menyusun struktur kalimat dan penggunaan kalimat majemuk setara – bertingkat. Mekanisme penulisan, siswa kesulitan dalam ejaan, tanda baca, dan pilihan kata. Kosakata, siswa kesulitan menggunaan kata ganti orang, kata ganti abstrak, kata benda umum, kata kerja, kata keterangan, kata sifat. Untuk isi, siswa dapat menulis teks, tapi kesulitan pada relevansi antara ide pokok, pendapat, dan rekomendasi.   Kata kunci: Identifikasi, kesulitan siswa, hortatori exposisi

Abstract

Abstract: This research is about English Friendly 5 CD’s towards students’ vocabulary mastery to the fifth year students of SDS Abdi Agape PontianakThe aim of the present research is to find out whether English Friendly 5 CD’s towards students’ vocabulary mastery effective or not.The method of this research was a Pre-experimental Study. The population was 43 students and 20 students of class B was a sample.The technique of data collecting was measurement and the tool of collecting data was a test in form of  a matching test. From the computation, it can be concluded that the teaching of vocabulary through Multimedia of English Friendly 5 CD’swas “highly effective”. Therefore, the null hypothesis that says “English Friendly 5 CD’s was not effective towards students’ vocabulary mastery” was rejected. And the alternative hypothesis that says “English Friendly 5 CD’s was effective towards students’ vocabulary mastery” was accepted. Keywords: vocabulary mastery, Pre-experimental Study, Multimedia   Abstrak: Penelitian ini adalah tentang English Friendly 5 CD’s terhadap penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris untuk siswa tahun kelima SDS Abdi Agape Pontianak Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah English Friendly 5 CD’s berpengaruh terhadap siswa penguasaan kosakata efektif atau tidak . Metode penelitian ini adalah studi Pra-eksperimental. Populasi adalah 43 siswa dan 20 siswa dari kelas B sebagai sampel . Teknik pengumpulan data adalah pengukuran dan alat pengumpulan data adalah tes dalam bentuk tes pencocokan. Dari perhitungan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengajaran kosakata melalui Multimedia English Friendly 5 CD’s " adalah sangat efektif ". Oleh karena itu, hipotesis nol yang mengatakan "English Friendly 5 CD’s itu tidak efektif terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa " ditolak. Dan hipotesis alternatif yang mengatakan" English Friendly 5 CD’s adalah efektif terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa" diterima.     Kata Kunci: Penguasaan kosakata, penelitian pra-experimen, multimedia.
