Abstract

Makkiyah and Madaniyah are foundational concepts in Ulumul Qur'an that classify Qur'anic verses and chapters based on the period of revelation, whether before or after the Prophet Muhammad's migration (Hijrah) to Medina. This study is significant because it provides insight into the historical context, linguistic style, and thematic content of Qur'anic verses. This article aims to explain the definition and characteristics of Makkiyah and Madaniyah, the methodological bases for their classification, the grouping of surahs, and their utility in Qur'anic interpretation. This research employs a library research method (studi kepustakaan) by collecting and critically analyzing various primary and secondary literary sources related to Qur'anic sciences. The results reveal that Makkiyah verses predominantly contain themes of creed (aqidah), monotheism (tawhid), morality, and eschatology, delivered in a concise, powerful, and rhetorical language. In contrast, Madaniyah verses focus more on Islamic law (syariat), social affairs, politics, and community life, characterized by a longer and more systematic linguistic style. This classification aids scholars in understanding the Islamic legal system methodically, analyzing the relationship between abrogating (nasikh) and abrogated (mansukh) verses, and provides a more precise understanding of the context of revelation. The study of Makkiyah and Madaniyah is crucial for a comprehensive, historical, and contextual understanding of the Qur'an.

Abstract

This research is based on the fatwa of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) on the prohibition of interfaith greetings, which has sparked widespread debate in Indonesia's pluralistic society, which has given rise to tensions between Islamic theological values and the demands of social diversity in the context of religious pluralism. This research aims to analyze the fatwa from the perspective of postmodern social theory. The scope of the study covers the theological, sociological, and social implications of the fatwa's implementation in society. The method used is a qualitative study with a document analysis approach and a literature review of the official MUI statement, public responses, and postmodern social theories. The results of the study indicate that the MUI fatwa is based on efforts to maintain the purity of the Islamic faith, but in the context of a pluralistic society it can give rise to social exclusivism and resistance to the values of inclusivity. In conclusion, although this fatwa has a strong normative basis from a religious perspective, its implementation requires a more adaptive socio-cultural approach to avoid polarization amidst the diversity of Indonesian society.

Abstract

Primary education that predominantly emphasizes cognitive achievement has led to a gradual degradation of character education. Consequently, the educational system risks producing graduates who are intellectually capable but morally fragile. This study aims to examine and propose a conceptual framework derived from the thoughts of the Muslim philosopher Al-Farabi as a philosophical foundation for revitalizing the primary education curriculum toward the formation of a holistic human being. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, in which data from Al-Farabi’s primary works and relevant secondary literature are analyzed through descriptive-philosophical analysis. The findings reveal that Al-Farabi’s educational thought is holistic in nature, emphasizing the ultimate goal of attaining true happiness (sa‘adah) through the balance between intellectual cultivation (‘aql) and moral excellence (khuluq). His concept of integrating theoretical sciences (logic, metaphysics) and practical sciences (ethics, politics), along with the central role of the teacher as a moral exemplar, holds significant relevance for addressing the persistent dualism between cognition and character in modern education. The study concludes that Al-Farabi’s philosophy can be actualized through a curriculum that harmonizes philosophical, pedagogical, and curricular dimensions, thereby nurturing a generation that is not only intellectually superior but also morally upright and socially conscious.

Abstract

Numerous acts of terrorism in Indonesia highlight the insufficient understanding and appreciation of moderation values. To combat terrorism and radicalism, a multifaceted approach is essential. This study examines the effectiveness of a deradicalization program that integrates Pancasila education and promotes moderate values through religious moderation education. The research posits that moderate Islamic education can prevent students from adopting radical behaviors and thoughts. Consequently, the graduates of Islamic educational institutions are better equipped to embrace religious diversity and respect differing beliefs. This qualitative study employs contextual and textual analysis of relevant articles to explore this topic. The findings reveal that the internalization of Pancasila values involves a three-step process: transformation, transaction, and internalization. These steps are crucial for harmonizing religious understanding and promoting tolerance. This study underscores the importance of embedding Pancasila values in educational curricula to foster a more moderate and inclusive society
