Abstract

Education in the 21st Century significantly emphasizes developing key competencies, including social responsibility. However, a substantial gap persists between students' theoretical understanding of social responsibility and its practical application, particularly in physics education. This study aims to develop a physics student worksheet based on the ENACT (Engage, Navigate, Anticipate, Conduct, and Take Action) learning model to foster social responsibility among students aged 15 to 16. This study employed the Research and Development (R and D) methodology and adopted the Borg and Gall development model (stages 1–7), involving validation by media and content experts and a practicality assessment. The sample comprised two teachers and 127 students from two public schools in Bandar Lampung, with data collection techniques including structured interviews, observations, and Likert-scale questionnaires. Validation results indicated high quality, with 92% from media experts and 94% from content experts, while practicality assessments yielded scores of 93% from teachers and 89% from students, categorizing the worksheet as highly practical. The teachers and students provided positive feedback, highlighting the worksheet's ease of use, relevance, engaging content, and potential to cultivate social responsibility among students. This study contributes to integrating digital technology into physics education by underscoring the role of interactive learning tools in fostering social responsibility. However, further research is recommended to examine the effectiveness of ENACT-based e-worksheets in diverse educational contexts and across different subject areas.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) as future science education. The method used in this research is a descriptive method with a bibliometric approach. Secondary data was used in this study in the form of scientific articles sourced from the Scopus database in the 2016-2021 period. Data collection uses Publish or Perish (PoP) software. The number of articles obtained was 200. All articles have been selected according to the criteria determined by the researcher. Mendeley software was used to manage metadata so that the final number of articles was 92. MOOCs, as a future educational trend, are becoming a flexible learning system that many people can follow to develop skills and knowledge. The challenge of MOOCs as future education is in the field of time and process. Then, from the results of the bibliometric analysis obtained, the growth of research related to MOOCs in the field of cooperative/collaborative learning is still relatively small, so further research related to cooperative/collaborative learning needs to be carried out.

Abstract

Background: Effective science education should promote not only academic achievement but also student motivation and engagement. Integrating inquiry-based learning with gamification has been suggested as a promising approach to support these outcomes, especially in middle school contexts where students often face challenges in understanding abstract scientific concepts.Aim: This study aims to evaluate the academic achievement and satisfaction of Grade 7 students after learning thermal energy concepts through inquiry-based learning integrated with gamification. The target benchmark was set at 70% achievement to assess the effectiveness of the learning model.Method: A post-test only experimental design was employed with 39 Grade 7 students at Kalasin Pittayasan School. The intervention involved four learning sessions that applied inquiry-based strategies enhanced with gamified activities. Research instruments included lesson plans, a 10-item multiple-choice academic achievement test, and a student satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and one-sample t-tests.Results: Findings revealed that students' average achievement score (73.80%) significantly exceeded the 70% criterion (p 0.05). Students also reported high satisfaction with the learning experience, citing improved understanding, enjoyment, and motivation. Qualitative feedback highlighted a positive classroom environment, increased willingness to participate, and appreciation for game-based elements. Conclusion: The integration of gamification within inquiry-based learning can effectively enhance both academic performance and learner satisfaction in science education. This approach offers a meaningful instructional model for middle school science classes. Future research should explore its long-term impact and adaptability across different subjects and student populations.

Abstract

Background: Education on disaster mitigation remains critically underemphasized, with existing pedagogical approaches often falling short in adequately preparing children for the realities of natural disasters. This gap underscores the urgent need for innovative educational tools that can effectively enhance disaster literacy among younger populations.Aim: This study aims to develop and assess an Earthquake E-Book designed to elevate the disaster literacy levels among children, focusing on its validity, practicality, and effectiveness as educational media.Method: Employing a Research and Development (RnD) framework, the study navigated through stages of problem identification, design formulation, and implementation, excluding the evaluation phase to concentrate on the developmental process. The implementation employed a One-Group Pretest-Posttest design, involving pretesting, intervention (treatment), and posttesting phases. The e-book's validity was appraised by three expert validators, while its practicality was gauged through student questionnaires, and its effectiveness was measured using the N-Gain test on student learning outcomes. Results: The Earthquake E-Book garnered an average validation score of 85.4 percent, positioning it within the valid category. Practicality assessments reflected an 85.4 percent efficiency rating from student feedback. Furthermore, the effectiveness, as indicated by an N-Gain score of 0.74, was classified within the high category, signifying substantial improvements in children's disaster literacy post-intervention.Conclusions: The findings affirm that the Earthquake E-Book stands as a valid, practical, and effective educational tool in bolstering disaster literacy among children. By integrating this digital resource into disaster mitigation education, it is anticipated to significantly contribute to enhancing children's understanding and preparedness for earthquake disasters.
