Abstract

Indonesia has characteristics of increasing temperatures that have yet to be widely known. Sudden temperature changes have brought many losses to Indonesians. The study was intended to analyze the level of scientific literacy on the climate-change material for prospective physics teachers in Indonesia. The study employs a qualitative methodology. The study also utilized descriptive analysis techniques by administering surveys to gather participant data. This study uses descriptive analysis techniques through the administration of surveys to collect data from participants. Increased emissions of greenhouse gases are a contributing factor to changes in temperature and climate. The escalation of greenhouse gas emissions in Indonesia leads to climate change as these gases envelop the Earth and trap the sun's heat, intensifying the greenhouse effect. The outcome entails elevated mean temperatures, alterations in precipitation patterns, and occurrences of severe weather events such as floods and droughts. Evaluating climate or temperature changes necessitates education. Education imparts knowledge about the significance of safeguarding the planet to maintain its well-being. Education plays a crucial role in addressing the challenge of climate change, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Abstract

Disaster-prone regions require an education system that equips students with both scientific understanding and disaster preparedness. However, integration of disaster mitigation content into subject-specific learning, particularly physics, remains limited. This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of physics teaching materials integrated with disaster mitigation education to enhance students’ disaster literacy skills. A mixed-method approach with an exploratory sequential design was employed. The development process followed the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate) to systematically design and implement teaching materials. The study was conducted in two high schools in South Lampung Regency, Lampung, Indonesia involving four classes (two experimental and two control groups) with a total of 128 students, consisting of 63 students in the experimental groups and 65 in the control groups. The T-test results show that the use of disaster mitigation-based teaching materials had a statistically significant effect on students' disaster literacy abilities, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05).  Furthermore, the results of the effect size analysis (Cohen’s d = 0.62 and 0.66) fall within the moderate category, confirming that this intervention had a significant impact on enhancing students’ disaster literacy skills related to disaster mitigation. The implementation of this teaching material not only enhances students’ understanding of physics concepts but also increases their awareness and preparedness for disasters, particularly around disaster literacy, making it a strategic innovation in disaster education. This research contributes significantly to the development of disaster education curricula in Indonesia, particularly within the context of physics education.

Abstract

This research is based on students low understanding of physics concepts due to learning that is still teacher-centered and the use of printed student worksheets that are not interactive enough. This research aims to develop an E-LKPD (Student Worksheet) based on the BOPPPS model (Bridge-in, Objective, Pre-assessment, Participatory Learning, Post-assessment, and Summary) as physics teaching material to train the conceptual understanding of eleventh-grade students. The method used is research and development, referring to the steps of the Borg & Gall model up to stage 9, which is product revision after usage testing, due to time limitations in the research. The development of E-LKPD based on the BOPPPS learning model yielded results from content experts indicating a very feasible category, while media experts categorized it as feasible. Limited trials with students were categorized as very feasible, and the results of usage tests with 100 students in three high schools in Bandar Lampung were categorized as very feasible. The response from physics educators also supports the feasibility of the E-LKPD, with a very feasible category. This research contributes to the use of technology. It is also innovative because it develops E-LKPD based on the BOPPPS model, which is relevant to the demands of 21st-century learning. It uses a systematic and structured learning model, enabling active student engagement, and has an attractive and easy-to-use product design with digital QR code technology. However, this research is still limited to three schools with a relatively small number of participants and has not quantitatively measured the improvement in learning outcomes.

Abstract

Efficient blue-emitting phosphors are crucial for the development of near-ultraviolet (near-UV) pumped white light-emitting diode (LED) devices. In this study, Ca10(PO4)6F2 triggered with Eu2+ phosphors were successfully synthesized via a facile combustion synthesis route in an open-air environment, enabling the formation of homogeneous and crystalline fine powders. The structural and morphological characteristics were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), confirming the formation of a single-phase apatite structure with well-defined particle morphology. Photoluminescence (PL) properties were investigated under ultraviolet excitation. The synthesized Ca10(PO4)6F2:Eu2+ phosphors exhibited an intense blue emission centered at 432 nm when excited at 348 nm, which is attributed to the allowed 4f7  4f65d1 electronic transition of Eu2+ ions. The strong blue emission in the near-UV excitation region indicates effective luminescence performance of the host lattice. These results demonstrate that Ca10(PO4)6F2:Eu2+ phosphors prepared by the combustion method are promising candidates for blue-emitting components in near-UV pumped white LED applications.

Abstract

Traditional games are part of local wisdom that preserves cultural values and educational potential. One such game is the slingshot, which is not only known as a hunting tool but also incorporates many concepts of physics such as elasticity, potential energy, kinetic energy, and parabolic motion. This study aims to review the literature on slingshots and their relevance in physics education. Data were collected from Scopus-indexed international publications using the keywords “slingshot OR catapult,” yielding 3,013 articles. After applying inclusion criteria and screening based on title, abstract, and keywords, 1,000 articles were selected for analysis using VOSviewer. The results of the study show five main clusters, namely the use of slingshots in aircraft launch, biomechanics, principles in animals, animal experiments, and fundamental aspects of physics. These findings confirm that catapults can be used as a contextual medium in learning to improve understanding of physics concepts and at the same time preserve local culture. By linking indigenous knowledge with scientific principles, this study contributes to enriching physics learning while encouraging the preservation of cultural heritage within modern education.
