Abstract

Abstract. Sayuti I, Zulfarina, Rahayu Z. 2023. Short communication: Macrofungi assemblage in Rawa Bento Forest, Kerinci Seblat National Park, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 24: 1224-1230. This study deals with macrofungi in the peat swamp forest of Rawa Bento, Kerinci Seblat National Park, Indonesia and their utilization. The forest region is dominated by banto grass or swamp rice grass (Leersia hexandra) with high humidity and rainfall which favors macrofungi growth and fruiting body formation. Furthermore, the sampling sites were chosen based on the accessibility of the area and the conditions for occurrence of macrofungi. About 36 macrofungi species were documented from 29 genera and 20 families, where 33 species belonged to Basidiomycota and only 2 species were Ascomycota. The dominant fungal group in the forest region was the Polypores and wood-inhabiting macrofungi. Eleven species were recognized as edible including Auricularia auricula-judae, Cantharellus subalbidus, Cookeina tricholoma, Dacryopinax spathularia, Galiella rufa, Ganoderma lucidum, Pleurotus cornucopiae, Pluteus fenzlii, Lentinus arcularius, Psilocybe cubensis, and Schizophyllum commune. Based on the scientific evidence, the majority of macrofungal species have medicinal properties except Pluteus fenzlii. The result provided preliminary information regarding use of macrofungi by the surrounding population, as well as knowledge development for researchers in the food and medical fields.

Abstract

Abstract. Darmawati, Silitonga LB, Nursal, Sayuti I, Mahadi I, Alamsjah F. 2025. Structure and composition of understory vegetation in urban forest of Pekanbaru, Riau Province, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 26: 4628-4639. Urban forests play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity; however, human disturbances and the spread of invasive species pose significant challenges to the resilience of understory vegetation. This study examined the structure and composition of understory vegetation in the Pekanbaru Urban Forest in Riau Province, Indonesia and formulated strategies for sustainable management. Research was carried out from June to December 2024 across two canopy conditions Closed Canopy Forest (CCF) and Partial Canopy Forest (PCF) using ten 2×2 m plots in each site (80 m² total). The analyses encompassed species composition, Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index (H?), Evenness Index (E), Dominance Index (D), invasive species proportion, correlation between H? and light intensity, as well as a T-test to compare H? between canopy types. Results revealed that the Poaceae family was the most dominant, with Brachiaria decumbens as the representative species. The T-test showed no significant difference in H? between CCF (2.67) and PCF (2.98), both classified as moderate. Evenness Index values were high (0.89 and 0.87), while dominance values were very low (0.08 and 0.07), indicating a relatively even distribution of species. In total, 38 species were identified, half of which (19 species) were invasive, with a higher abundance recorded in PCF. These findings suggest that canopy mosaics comprising both closed and partially open areas are essential for maintaining understory vegetation in urban forests, as they help support species diversity while limiting invasive dominance. Recommended management strategies include preserving canopy mosaics, controlling invasive species, promoting native species planting, and strengthening conservation policies through active community participation.

Abstract

Tidal flooding in Dumai City has intensified in recent years, causing damage to settlements, infrastructure, and community livelihoods. However, previous studies predominantly focus on technical modeling and lack updated, field-based assessments of post-2020 conditions, especially regarding the effectiveness of recent mitigation efforts. This study aims to analyze the causes, impacts, and mitigation strategies of tidal flooding in Dumai by filling these research gaps. Using a qualitative approach, including semi-structured interviews with BPBD officers, relevant agencies, and affected residents, as well as field observations, the research reveals that tidal floods were triggered by high rainfall, tidal cycles, and inadequate drainage infrastructure before 2021. The impacts include damage to homes, furniture, vehicles, and public roads, as well as health and economic disruptions. Since the construction of 15 floodgates and water pumps in 2021, supported by mangrove planting and increased community participation, flood duration has drastically decreased from several days to approximately three hours. The study concludes that these strategies are effective but require ongoing maintenance and expansion. It is recommended that the government enhance drainage systems, widen mangrove rehabilitation areas, and accelerate relocation plans for high-risk households to ensure long-term resilience.

Abstract

ANALYSIS OF FLOOD PROBLEMS AND FLOOD DISASTER MITIGATION STRATEGIES IN KAMPAR REGENCY, RIAU PROVINCE Kampar Regency in Riau Province is a flood-prone area where flood management efforts still require comprehensive improvement. Flood occurrences are influenced not only by natural factors but also by spatial planning, environmental management, and the roles of institutions and communities. This study aims to identify the causes of flooding, analyze mitigation efforts undertaken by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (RDMA) and local communities, and formulate appropriate strategies to reduce flood risk. The research was conducted in Sipungguk Village and Buluh Nipis Village, Kampar Regency, in May 2024 using a qualitative approach through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that flooding is caused by prolonged high rainfall, lowland topography, overflow of the Kampar River influenced by the operation of the Koto Panjang Hydropower Reservoir, inadequate drainage systems, land-use change, and settlement development along riverbanks. Flood mitigation efforts by RDMA are still dominated by emergency response and short-term preparedness measures, including flood hazard mapping, evacuation, and community education, which have not significantly reduced flood risk. This study concludes that flood mitigation in Kampar Regency remains reactive and poorly integrated. Therefore, an integrated mitigation strategy is required, emphasizing institutional capacity strengthening, community-based risk management, environmental management, and coordination of water discharge regulation with the Koto Panjang Hydropower Plant.
