Abstract

Caulerpa racemosa is one of the green macroalgae that is widely distributed in the coastal areas of Lampung Province and needs to be explored as a phytopharmaceutical ingredient because it is thought to have bioactive compounds. In this study, we also used taurine, which is known to prevent cell and tissue damage due to oxidative processes, to explore its potential as an anticancer. The initial stage of this research is phytochemical screening of 96% ethanol extract of Caulerpa racemosa and contains phenolic compounds . alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, steroids and terpenoids. The toxicity test of Caulerpa racemosa ethanol extract and taurine used the BSLT method (Brine Shrimp Lethality Test). In this study, 7 concentrations were used, namely 0 ppm (control); 62.5; 125; 250; 500; 1000; and 2000 for both Caulerpa racemosa and taurine ethanol extracts with 5 repetitions. Meanwhile, the toxicity test results showed that the LC50 value of Caulerpa racemosa ethanol extract was 194.14 ppm and 170.69 ppm for taurine, this values are between 100 ppm - 1000 ppm of Caulerpa racemosa ethanol and taurine indicate that both material have potential anticancer activity with low toxicity.

Abstract

Suboptimal fish feeding management can affect the growth rate of fish. Fish   Feeding management consists of aspects of feed nutritional content, quantity, and feeding system. A system that still relies on humans or manual labor is very likely to cause human error in the process, so utilizing technology can be an option to improve the feeding system. This study aims to design and test the Smart Fish Feeder Design as an innovation in technology-based freshwater fish feeding. The fish Feeder works by providing fish feeding scheduling using the RTC DS3231 and detecting vibrations in pond water, which aims to determine the feeding process using the SW-420 Vibration Sensor. If a certain vibration is used as a parameter that the fish are still consuming feed, then the feeding process continues. The duration of the influence of sensor readings in adding feed lasts for one minute and can be adjusted according to pond conditions or the number of research subjects. The results show that the design can provide fish feed on a scheduled basis with high accuracy and can detect water vibrations as an indicator of feed consumption by fish.

Abstract

Silver pompano (Trachinotus blochii) is a mariculture commodity with fast growth characteristics and easy adaptation to the environment. However, the production of its seeds is hindered by the maturation of the parent's gonads out-side the spawning season. Hormonal approaches are needed for the maturation of the parent's gonads. The aim of this study is to investigate the level of steroid hormones, gonadosomatic index, and gonad histology in female silver pompano (Trachinotus blochii) broodstock after dietary supplementation with 17-estradiol. This research is crucial for the advancement of effective and efficient techniques for rearing this fish. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of three different 17estradiol concentrations (0 mg/kg (E1), 30 mg/kg (E2), and 60 mg/kg (E3) fed to female silver pompano broodstock for 30 days, beginning at initial feeding, each with eight individual replicates. Absolute body weight growth, steroid hormone levels, gonadal maturation index, gonadal histology, fecundity, and egg diameter of female silver pompano broodstock were all examined in this study. The incorporation of 17-estradiol hormone into the sustenance amplifies the reproductive capabilities of the female silver pompano broodstock. The inclusion of 17-estradiol hormone in the diet renders the most elevated values regarding fecundity and egg diameter in the female silver pompano broodstock. Histological examinations expose that the development of the gonads in the female broodstock treated with 17-estradiol hormone progresses towards maturation. The inclusion of 17- estradiol hormone in the diet at doses of 20 and 60 mg/kg feed yields the highest values in terms of fecundity and egg diameter in female silver pompano broodstock.Keywords:17-estradiolGonadal histologyGonadosomatic indexSteroid hormoneSilver pompano

Abstract

The success of a culture depends on the quantity and quality of water used in fish culture without water exchange, the concentration of aquaculture waste such as ammonia (NH3) will increase very rapidly and is toxic to the cultivated organism. One of the innovations applied in fish farming is integrating plants through an aquaponics system. This study aims to determine the effect of using a settling tub in reducing ammonia waste (NH3) and growth in tilapia aquaculture using an aquaponic tidal system. The size of the initial tilapia seeds used is 3-4 cm. There are two treatments used, without settling tub (A) and addition of settling tub (B) with three replications. However, the results showed no significant differences (P>0.05) between treatments for all parameters observed. It is necessary to carry out further research on different fish and plants to see the optimization in reducing ammonia waste (NH3).
