Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada penggunaan Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) untuk meningkatkan keterampilan mendengar siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 8 Pematang Siantar. Peneliti menggunakan desain quasi-experimental, melibatkan dua kelompok kelas utuh yang menerima metode pembelajaran yang berbeda. Kelompok eksperimen diajari menggunakan metode TBLT, sedangkan kelompok kontrol mendapatkan pembelajaran konvensional. Sampel terdiri dari 64 siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata untuk pre-test pada kelompok eksperimen adalah 64,78, dan nilai rata-rata untuk post-test adalah 91,66. Sebagai perbandingan, nilai rata-rata untuk pre-test pada kelompok kontrol adalah 66,24, dan nilai rata-rata untuk post-test adalah 68,12. Peneliti menemukan bahwa nilai t-test melebihi t-tabel (3,74 > 1,66980) pada taraf signifikansi 0,05. Dengan demikian, metode TBLT menunjukkan dampak yang signifikan terhadap peningkatan pemahaman mendengar siswa kelas delapan SMP Negeri 8 Pematang Siantar. Konsekuensinya, TBLT dapat digunakan sebagai pendekatan instruksional yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman mendengarkan siswa dalam kaitannya dengan teks deskriptif.

Abstract

The research utilized quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design. A total of 287 students from class IX at SMP Negeri 12 Pematang Siantar was chosen as the population. The sample was split into two classes: the experimental class (IX 1), which had 28 students and used guided reading, and the control class (IX 5), which had 28 students and utilized lectures. The research instruments were pre-test and post-test of multiple choice of narrative text. To process statistical data, the researcher utilized SPSS version 26. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk showed results of 0.200 (experimental) and 0.140 (control). The experimental group's post-test mean score exceeded the control group’s post-test by 70 points, leading to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis and rejection of the null hypothesis. This demonstrates that the guided reading strategy significantly enhances students' narrative text comprehension.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the reading comprehension studies of students in class IX at SMP Negeri 2 Tapian Dolok during the academic year 2022–2023 by using the small group discussion method. With a pretest and posttest study design, quantitative research employs a quasi-experimental research methodology. Purposive sampling was used in this study to select a sample of 60 students from class IX at SMP Negeri 2 Tapian Dolok during the 2022–2023 academic year, or from two experimental classes of 30 students each. procedures for gathering data that involve testing, observations, and documentation. the information gathered on students' proficiency in reading comprehension. A reading proficiency exam was the tool utilized. The formula sample t-test was the hypothesis test that was employed. The value of t-test (3,8) > t-table (1672) in the results revealed that there were differences in the students' reading comprehension skills when using the small group discussion approach compared to the lacture-based learning traditional teaching method. When it came to reading comprehension, the small group discussion approach outperformed the standard lecture-based learning approach. With an average score of 79,5, the experimental group that underwent learning treatment through the small group discussion approach could be considered to be in the good category. The control group, on the other hand, received instruction utilizing the lecture-based learning approach and achieved an average score of 64,84.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah teknik pra-membaca meningkatkan keterampilan membaca siswa pada teks eksposisi analitis siswa kelas sebelas di SMK Negeri 1 Pematang Siantar. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik pra-membaca, yang membantu siswa mengantisipasi topik teks. Peneliti menggunakan rumus uji-t untuk menganalisis dampak teknik pra-membaca terhadap pemahaman siswa. Penelitian ini melibatkan 60 siswa kelas sebelas, yang terdiri dari 30 siswa di kelas eksperimen dan 30 siswa di kelas kontrol. Pre-test dan post-test dilakukan, dan data dianalisis menggunakan uji-t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada pemahaman siswa ketika menggunakan teknik pra-membaca. T-hitung lebih besar dari t-tabel (2,02<5,08>2,71) menunjukkan hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima dan hipotesis nol (Ho) ditolak. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan teknik pra-membaca dalam pengajaran membaca secara signifikan meningkatkan pemahaman siswa. Bukti empiris menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang mengikuti kegiatan pra-membaca mempunyai kinerja lebih baik dibandingkan siswa yang tidak mengikuti kegiatan pra-membaca.

Abstract

Improving writing skills is as supporting factor for the success of learning carried out by each teacher. Writing ability comes from the habit of reading and analyzing problems in learning that is carried out every day. The culture of writing is still far from being a habit for teachers of SMP Negeri 3 Jorlang Hataran. Therefore, the University of HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar University team has carried out a community service at SMP Negeri 3 Jorlang Hataran, Jalan Besar Parapat, Nagori Bah Sampuran. district Jorlang Hataran, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra where this service aims to socialize methods of improving English literacy skills using the problem based learning method for teachers of SMP Negeri 3 Jorlang Hataran. This service has been received with good response and was appreciated by the Principal of SMP Negeri 3 Jorlang Hataran. The results obtained from this service were 76.7% of participants who stated that they were satisfied with this service. It is hoped that with this activity, there will be a good cooperation established between the University and the school to develop the quality of teachers in order to create the higher quality education.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the Twitter application as a teaching medium on ninth grade students' reading comprehension of the News Item text. This research was carried out at SMP Negeri 4 Pematang Siantar, namely in classes IX-3 and IX-4. The formulation of the research problem is the influence of the Twitter application as a teaching medium in reading news item texts for class IX students at SMP Negeri 4 Pematang Siantar. Researchers used quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental design and used two classes, namely the experimental class and the control class. Data collection was carried out using multiple choice tests. The instruments used to collect data were taken from students' pre-test and post-test results; scores were then calculated and analyzed using MS Excel and manual The research results showed that the average score of the experimental class was a pre-test score of 57.96 and a post-test score of 80.8. Meanwhile, the average score for the control class was a pre-test score of 61.09 and a post-test score of 71.40. The results of student scores on the post-test show that the use of Twitter learning media is very effective in reading news item texts for class IX students. The t-test calculation shows that the t-test value is greater than the ttable value (2.13 > 1.669). at a significance level of 5%, a two-sided test means the null hypothesis (HO) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This means that the influence of the Twitter application as a teaching medium can improve students' reading comprehension

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of audio-visual media on listening comprehension of eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Pematang Siantar on narrative text. This study used an quantitative research with quasi-experimental design with a sample of 72 eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Pematang Siantar selected by purposive sampling. The experimental group was given material using audio-visual teaching media, while the control group was given material with lecture-based learning traditional teaching method. The data were analysed using the t test. From the results of data analysis, the mean pre-test and post-test values for the experimental class were 40 and 90, while for the control class were 50.1, and 78. It is also known that the average value in experimental class reached 90 and control class 78. The results showed that students who learned by using audio visual media had better listening comprehension than students who learned with lecture-based learning traditional teaching method.  Hypothesis testing also shows that audio visual teaching has a significant effect on listening comprehension on a narrative text. The results show that T-test is higher than T-table (4.121.667) with the level of significance 5%, then Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that the use of audio-visual media affected students' listening comprehension on narrative text.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out whether the effect of small group discussion teaching method to the reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMP Negeri 4 Pematang Siantar. This research uses quantitative research with a quasi-experimental research methodology. Creswell (2012:27),explains that "quasi-experimental includes giving tasks, but not assigning participants to groups". This research used quantitative research quasi-experimental method. The data from this study where collected and obtained through tests. The sample this research the VIII -6 as the experimental class and the VIII-9 as the control class .the test was carried out with pre-test and post-test to students using small group discussion teaching method.The research data and result findings of calculation, the research found the mean score in experimental class from pre-test to post-test are 70.40 and 82.40. than score in control class from pre-test and post-test are 70.53 and 76.73. the statistical hypothesis testing findings sample t-test are indicated ,at a level of significance of 5% (=0,05), that the t -test was 3,04 whereas t-table was 1.671 , or t-test> t-table .it can be concluded that the value of t-test was higher than the value of t-table .therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected .so, its mean that there is a significant effect of use small group discussion teaching method to the reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMP Negeri 4 Pematang Siantar

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe and analyze reading comprehension teaching techniques using jigsaw teaching techniques for eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Tapian Dolok. The aim of this research is to determine the effect. Jigsaw Teaching Technique on reading comprehension of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Tapian Dolok on descriptive text. This research uses a quantitative type of research with a quasi-experimental design. The sampling technique used in this research was purposive sampling, with a sample of 62 class VIII students at SMP Negeri 2 Tapian Dolok. Two classes were taken as subjects for this research, namely the experimental class and the control class. Data obtained from the experimental class and control class were analyzed using the t-test formula. Researchers found that the post-test average in the experimental group was 83 and the post-test average in the control group was 77. The calculation results showed that at the 5% significance level, the t-count value > t-table (2.4 > 1.671 ). From these results, it appears that there is a significant difference between student achievement in reading comprehension of descriptive texts that use jigsaw teaching techniques and those taught using traditional lecture-based teaching methods. Therefore, the researchers concluded that there was a significant influence of the Jigsaw teaching technique on reading comprehension.

Abstract

Panti asuhan adalah lembaga sosial yang mengasuh anak, membentuk anak mempunyai sikap mandiri, membentuk pribadi yang baik dengan ilmu pengetahuan serta ajaran agama yang sudah didapatkan untuk bekal anak menghadapi dunia luar kelak berada di usia dewasa. Panti Asuhan Elim Pematang siantar merupakan salah satu panti asuhan yang berada dikota Pematangsiantar yang  memiliki permasalahan dalam pembentukan karakter anak. Adapun permasalahan yang sangat penting saat ini yang harus segera ditangani adalah kurangnya pemahaman anak-anak asuh tentang tugas dan tanggung jawab mereka sebagai anak dalam perkembangannya sesuai usia masing-masing. Untuk menanggulangi permasalahan tersebut, tim dosen bersama mahasiswa dari Universitas  HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar melakukan Kerjasama dengan pihak Lembaga melalui kegiatan sosialisasi penerapan dan pengaruh orang dewasa terhadap perkembangan peserta didik (mental, fisik, dan moral) di panti asuhan Elim Pematangsiantar. Kegiatan pengabdian ini menggunakan metode pendidikan, pelatihan dan pendampingan melalui permainan. Dari hasil kegiatan ini didapat hasil bahwa pemberian pemahaman kepada para anak asuh tentang tugas-tugas perkembangan yang harus mereka lakoni sesuai usia dan tahap perkembangannya dan para pengasuh harus mengetahui peran mereka sebagai orang dewasa dalam membantu dan mengawasi anak asuhnya yang sedang berkembang menurut tahapan perkembangannya telah dipahami oleh anak dari panti asuhan Elim Pematangsiantar.  Saran yang diusulkan dari tim pengabdi agar Lembaga panti asuhan Elim Pematangsiantar Kerjasama lanjutan dengan  Universitas HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar yang memiliki Program studi yang sesuai pertumbuhan dan perkembangan anak.
