Abstract

Abstract

Biodiversity, especially in West Kalimantan, is very diverse, one of which is the kesum plant (Polygonum minus husks). The kesum plant is a plant that can be used as herbal medicine. The utilization of kesum plants is usually done as part of the leaves, namely as local processed cooking spices. Based on Fitofarmaka studies, kesum plants are believed to have antibacterial, antifungal, anti-viral, antioxidant, anti-cancer, and antiulcer activities. The study's aim was to find out how well different concentrations of kesum leaf juice-based solid soap formulations stopped the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This study used kesum leaves (Polygonum minus husks), which were squeezed, and then made solid soap preparations with concentrations of 3.93%, 5.25%, and 6.56%. Nine repetitions were carried out in each treatment, so the number of samples used was 27. The results of the antibacterial inhibition test showed that the soap preparation samples had the ability to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The result of the statistical analysis value in the Friedman test is P = 0.000, which states that there is a difference in each concentration of solid soap prepared from kesum leaf juice. Dilution concentrations of 5.25% and 6.56% are more effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria than 3.93%.

Abstract

Energy needs are increasing, while the energy sources used so far have come from petroleum, natural gas and coal (fossil fuels) which are non-renewable and the amount always decreases from time to time. Energy sources derived from renewable fuels are a solution to this problem. One type of product from renewable energy sources derived from vegetable oil is biodiesel (methyl ester). Biodiesel is a monoalkyl ester of long chain fatty acids contained in vegetable oils or animal fats for use as diesel engine fuel. The implementation stage of this activity begins with the preparation of raw materials in the form of preparation of used cooking oil and filtering. The second stage is dissolving caustic soda (2-3 g) into methanol liquid (5:1 methanol water). The third stage is mixing the oil with a solution of methanol and caustic soda into a bottle and allowed to stand for 24 hours, this stage aims to separate the glycerol content in the oil. The fourth step is to separate the oil with solid glycerol and transfer it to an empty container to be mixed with warm water, this aims to remove excess methanol liquid in the oil, let stand for 24 hours. The last step is to separate the oil from the mixing water. From the results of this experiment, a ready-to-use biodiesel liquid was obtained.

Abstract

This study of international non-governmental actors (INGO) and peacebuilding has sparked a lively discussion because INGOs play a significant role in the peace process. On the other hand, INGOs with their own values frequently fight with one another or with the values of the local community. This study tries to comprehend the peacebuilding strategies of The Catholic Relief Service (CRS) and Muhammadiyah in conflict zones, particularly Timor-Leste and Mindanao. This study employs a qualitative approach with document analysis. The findings of this study indicate that CRS and Muhammadiyah play a significant role in promoting peace through the following efforts: (1) reducing human suffering by seeking the safety of conflict victims; (2) promoting peace through a democratic, non-violent, and participatory process by focusing on the safety of women and other vulnerable people; and (3) post-conflict reconstruction by restoring the lives of people affected by conflict in various aspects.
