Abstract

Islamic education in the 2nd century Hijriyah played a crucial role in shaping the sustainable Islamic educational system that continues to this day. During this period, prominent Muslim scholars such as Abu Hanifah, Malik bin Anas, and Al-Shafi’i formulated educational concepts based on the Qur'an and Sunnah, which later developed in educational institutions such as halaqah and early madrasas. This study aims to analyze the relevance of Islamic educational theories from the 2nd century Hijriyah in the development of contemporary education systems. Using a qualitative approach based on literature studies, this research examines the educational principles applied in that era and their contributions to modern learning systems. The findings indicate that key principles, such as value-based education, interactive discussion methods, and the integration of religious and secular sciences, remain relevant to contemporary educational challenges. This article contributes by linking the history of Islamic educational thought with the demands of a more holistic and value-based modern education system.

Abstract

Understanding the translation of taboo speech acts in audiovisual media is essential, particularly in contexts involving differing cultural norms and values. This study analyzes the translation strategies used to render taboo speech acts from Arabic into Indonesian in the Omar series. A descriptive qualitative approach was adopted using an embedded case study design. The data comprise 26 Arabic taboo utterances and their corresponding Indonesian subtitles. These utterances were categorized into nine types based on Jay’s (2009) typology, with the most frequent being insults related to perceived psychological, physical, or social deviations (19.2%). The translation techniques were examined using Molina and Albir’s (2002) framework, which revealed that reduction (25%) was the most applied strategy. A combination of single, double, and triple-technique applications was also observed across the dataset. These findings suggest that subtitles prioritize cultural acceptability over literal equivalence, employing strategies that mitigate potential offense while preserving the communicative intent of the source text.

Abstract

Correct pronunciation of Qur’anic sounds is crucial, especially for elevation sounds such as  /tˁ/ and /dˁ/. This study analyzes their spectrographic characteristics in Surah Al-Fatiha recitation by non-native Arabic speakers, as Indonesian speakers (Ummi teachers in Bandung), compared to native Arabic speakers. Using a qualitative comparative method with a case study approach, data from four participants (two males and two females) were collected through recording, listening, and transcription. The analysis uses Praat to examine parameters such as duration, fundamental frequency (F0), intensity, and formants. The Findings show Indonesian speakers pronounce /tˁ/ with longer duration, higher F0, and lower intensity; for /dˁ/, they show shorter duration, higher F0, and lower intensity than natives. Male Indonesians resemble native speakers more closely. Gender analysis reveals males have shorter durations and lower F0 than females. Both groups show similar formant patterns despite acoustic differences, indicating phonetic adaptation. These findings contribute to Arabic phonetics education by highlighting specific acoustic features in non-native pronunciation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze learning obstacles in mastering the rules of damair, particularly damair munfa?ilah and damair mutta?ilah, in Arabic language learning among Grade X.1 students at Madrasah Aliyah Al Inayah, Bandung. The research employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through diagnostic tests and interviews, involving students who had previously studied the topic of damair. Interview participants were selected using maximum variation sampling, a type of purposive sampling that considers the diversity in students' performance levels. The analysis revealed that students' learning obstacles can be classified into three categories based on Brousseau’s theory: (1) ontogenic obstacles, related to students’ limited vocabulary and cognitive readiness; (2) epistemological obstacles, involving misconceptions and conceptual errors in understanding the rules of damair; and (3) didactical obstacles, resulting from unsystematic instructional approaches, particularly in explaining the function of damair within i‘rab structures, which hinder students’ comprehensive understanding of grammatical relations. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a basis for developing more targeted teaching strategies, thereby improving students’ understanding of damair rules and supporting the overall enhancement of their Arabic language proficiency.

Abstract

This article aimed to map the reference level description of the Arabic Language Proficiency Test in Indonesia with an adaptation based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). In this context, the article focused on developing reference level descriptions to assess Arabic language proficiency in Indonesia. A qualitative approach was used through document analysis. Evaluation questions on the Ikhtibarat Maharah Lughah Arabiyah (Imalah) test were cariied out as the data source as well as the CEFR guiding concept issued by Council of Europe. This research was carried out according to the design, namely starting with collecting data in the form of documents related to the CEFR and Arabic language tests, then the data collected was reduced and presented in the form of tables, diagrams or narratives and at the end there were conclusions drawn. The findings of this study reinforced the research objectives by demonstrating that the test includes reference level descriptions that are international standards. This assisted in assessing and understanding the extent to which an individual has mastered the Arabic language. In other words, these findings confirmed that the implementation of international reference level descriptions in the test supports the achievement of the established research objectives, which was to assist in assessing the language proficiency of individuals in Arabic. By adopting the CEFR, this not only helped to measure language proficiency easier, but also facilitated a better understanding of the level of Arabic competency required for educational, employment or general communication purposes.

Abstract

Background: Reading comprehension (qirā’ah) is a fundamental skill in learning Arabic as a foreign language. As the complexity of texts and the demands of critical literacy increase, there is a need for a conceptual model that can map the cognitive and epistemic processes involved in understanding Arabic texts. Purpose: This study explores the technical potential of the Reference Epistemological Model (REM) in enhancing students' qirā’ah comprehension. Method: This study employs a qualitative approach with an exploratory case study design. Data were collected through text-based comprehension tests using authentic materials, semi-structured interviews, structured observations, and classroom documentation. Thematic analysis results indicate that the REM is effective in identifying students’ conceptual representations, epistemic activities, and epistemic stances while reading Arabic texts. Results and Discussion: The main findings indicate that the majority of students are still at the stage of literal comprehension and have not yet fully activated inferential and reflective strategies in reading. The REM has potential as both a diagnostic and pedagogical framework for developing qirā’ah assessment, constructing authentic evaluation rubrics, and designing learning strategies based on deep meaning-making. Conclusions and Implications: Contains one to two important sentences. This section provides a conclusion about the results of the research and what these results mean for us today, as well as the implications of the suggested research results for future research on the topic.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal how the semantic level in the verses of monotheism in Surah Al-Mulk is employed to reinforce the impression of monotheism. The focus of the study is directed toward the selection of diction, polysemy, synonymy, and antonymy that carry profound meanings related to this monotheistic impression. This research adopts a qualitative method with a content analysis approach applied to the verses of Surah Al-Mulk, using tafsir sources from Tafsīr Al-Miṣbāḥ, Al-Marāghī, Al-Munīr, Al-Kashshāf, Ibn Kathīr, Al-Muyassar, and Tafsīr Al-Qurṭubī. The analysis is conducted by selecting the tafsir that most closely aligns with the meaning of the word under study, ensuring that the explanations remain focused and consistent. The findings indicate that the choice of words in Surah Al-Mulk is not coincidental but intentional and strategic in affirming the power and oneness of Allah, as seen in the use of the words يَد (power), أَفْئِدَةٌ (heart), and the antonym pair الْمَوْت – الْحَيَاة (death–life), which strengthen the monotheistic impression. These findings affirm that the rhetorical power of the Qur’anic language at the semantic level can convey the impression of monotheism in a profound and effective manner, while also contributing to the study of Qur’anic stylistics.

Abstract

Abstract

The importance of mastering Arabic syntax for Muslims makes this field widely sought after, not only among young learners but also among adults. However, innovations in Arabic syntax instruction tailored to the needs of adult learners are still rarely developed. This study aims to describe the application of an inductive-based technique, namely Mistake Buster, in teaching Arabic syntax, particularly the structure of jumlah fi‘liyyah. The study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach involving five adult female learners over the age of 20 in a semi-private Naḥwu Class program. The results show that adult learners not only better understand the structure of jumlah fi‘liyyah but also gain a deeper understanding of i‘rāb. Learners also better understand types of kalimah and their differences; recognize the kinds, meanings, and patterns of jumlah; understand the appropriate use of ṣifah in fā’il or maf‘ūl bih; and are able to analyze elements such as fi‘il, fā’il, maf‘ūl bih, ḥarf, isim majrūr, and ṣifah in a jumlah, along with their i‘rāb signs. In addition, their activeness, curiosity, self-confidence, critical thinking, memory, and motivation improve. This study contributes significantly to Arabic syntax instruction for adult learners and recommends developing instructional materials or media based on the Mistake Buster technique.
