Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan  dan meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam merancang maupun menyusun instrumen assessment for learning berbasis portofolio yang dilengkapi dengan rubric penilaian bagi guru-guru SD di kecamatan Laweyan Surakarta. Kegiatan pelatihan dilaksanakan dalam tiga tahapan yaitu: 1). pemaparan materi asesmen, 2) pelatihan menyusun instrumen penilaian berbasis porofolio, 3) pendampingan dalam mengimplementasikan instrumen penilaian portofolio dalam kelas, 4) Evaluasi kegiatan. Metode yang digunakan adalah pelatihan partisipatif, dan pendampingan terdiri atas tahapan analisis kebutuhan peserta pelatihan, merancang instumen assessment for learning berbasis portofolio dan melakukan pendampingan di sekolah. Subjek yang dilibatkan sebanyak 20 guru SD di Kecamatan Laweyan Kota Surakarta. Pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah memberian tugas dalam merancang instrumen penilaian portofolio. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan respon positif guru dalam mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan dan meningkatnya kompetensi guru dalam menyusun assessment for learning berbasis portofolio. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari persentase kehadiran peserta latihan 90 %, dan 82.% dari total peserta telah berhasil menyusun dan mempresentasikan instrumen penilaian portofolio.

Abstract

Globalization not only affects positively the technology development, but also can affect negatively the character of young generation. It is here that civic education is very desirable as a measure of internalizing nationalism values, so that although young generations have global competencies, they remain to maintain nationalistic values. This research aims to describe the role of teachers as the instructor of civic education in internalizing nationalism values to primary school students. This was a descriptive qualitative research with 25 5th (fifth) graders in public primary schools in Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia being the sample. Techniques of collecting data used were observation, questionnaire, and interview. Source and technique triangulations were used to validate the data. The result of research showed that teachers’ intervention is very vital to students’ nationalistic values. The data shows that 72% of students have high enthusiasm with discussion, 82% are very tolerant to diversity, and 80% love Indonesian original products. It indicates that teachers’ intervention also contributes to reducing the negative effect of globalization, directly determining the students’ nationalistic attitude.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to improve the students’ ability to solve math word problem in fifth grade of State Elementary School of Tegalsari No.60 Surakarta in the academic year 2017/2018 through Logan Avenue Problem Solving (LAPS-Heuristic) learning. The data collecting techniques were in-depth interviews, observations, tests, and documentation. The data validating technique were content validity, technique triangulation, and source triangulation. Data analyzing were descriptive comparative analysis and interactive analysis. The results of this class action research showed the achievement of the ability to solve math word problem at fifth-grade students of Tegalsari State Elementary School No.60 Surakarta academic year 2017/2018. The classical completeness of students’ score to solve math word problem has increased, from 33,33% in pretest to 57,14% in cycle I, and 85,71% in cycle II. The conclusion of this research is the use of LAPS-Heuristic learning can improve the students’ ability to solve math word problem in fifth-grade of State Elementary School of Tegalsari No.60 Surakarta academic year 2017/2018.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the ability of preservice elementary teacher ability in poetry writing containing character education with local wisdom persepective. Mix method research approach is used with research design is triangulation design. The research subjects were 35 students of the elementary school teacher education program. The data were obtained through the technique of writing poetry tests and interviews. The analysis of the test used aspects of poetry writing skills. The research findings provide views that students have been able to write poetry with their own imagination, include the meaning of poetry, the advice, and are able to integrate character values with local wisdom. Mastery of the diction aspect is the lowest among other aspects that need to be improved. Recommendations of this research to educators and future research as a review for developing effective Indonesian language learning in the elementary school teacher education program, especially in productive language skills, namely creative writing with character education and local wisdom.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe: (1) the students’ and lecturers’ needs on the Theater Education Textbook, (2) the development of the textbook model, (3) the effectiveness testing on the designed textbook, (4) the result of the textbook dissemination. The type of research used was research and development by Borg and Gall. Research was done through 4 stages: (1) exploration, (2) model development, (3) model testing, and (4) dissemination. The research approach used in the exploration stage was qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection was done through documentation study, observation, in-depth interview, and questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using interactive analysis model. Model testing was done by experimental research. The results of this research were: (1) exploration stage showed that the Theater Education Textbook used in Undergraduate Elementary Teacher Education (ETE) Program of Sebelas Maret University, Muhammadiyah University, and Slamet Riyadi University Surakarta, Indonesia did not met the students’ and lecturers’ needs, (2) the theater education textbook was developed through preliminary field testing; and (3) testing phase of textbook effectiveness was done through main field testing. The value of t-obtained was 0.17 and t-table(0.05; 173) = 1.64. Thus, the critical area {t <-1.64 or t> 1.64}. Since t-obtained (0.17)< t-table (1.64)  H0: μ1 ≠μ2 was accepted. This means that the theater script writing textbook with character education and local wisdom was able to improve the students’ script writing ability.

Abstract

This research is intended to find the different of reading comprehension ability of student that teached by teaching Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) learning strategy within Know-Want to Know-Learned (KWL) learning strategy, the different of reading comprehension ability of student that have the high reading interest and low reading interest, and the interaction between learning strategy and studied reading interest on the reading comprehension ability. This study was a quasi experimental research methode design by 2×2 factorial design. Population of the research are all student at fifth grade of elementary school in Laweyan district Surakarta in the academic year of 2017/2018. Samples were taken by cluster random sampling technique. The selected sample are Pajang 1 elementary school and Karangasem 1 elementary School. The data collecting uses test and non test technique. This research used two ways anava data analysis technique and used Scheffe method as a further testing after two ways anova with 5% of significance level. The result of research shows that a different of reading comprehension ability of student that teached by Directed Reading Thinking (DRTA) learning strategy within Know-Want to Know-Learned (KWL) learning strategy, there was a different of reading comprehension ability of student that have the high reading interest and low reading interest, and there was an interaction between learning strategy and reading interest on the reading comprehension ability.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze readability of the narrative text using fry graph. The scope of this research is the narrative text contained in the student book of fourth grade elementary school theme 4 “berbagai pekerjaan” in the curriculum 2013, which consists of 13 narrative texts. The research method of this study is descriptive analysis, the data that has been collected and then analyzed for readability using the fry graph. Based on the legibility formula introduced by Edward Fry, the main factors affecting the level of readability are two things, “the short length of the sentence” and “the syllables that make up the words in each text”. After calculating with the fry graph formula, it was found that the narrative text contained in the fourth grade elementary school theme 4 “berbagai pekerjaan” in the curriculum 2013 is more suitable for grades 1,2 and 3.

Abstract

This service activity aims to improve creative writing skills with character education for elementary school teachers through face-to-face and virtual training. The participatory method was used in this training to stimulate teachers to be active in practicing poetry writing both in theory and practice. Face-to-face meetings were held twice for theoretical training, while virtual meetings were held for practical training in writing poetry and presenting it. Based on the results of scoring the ability to write poetry in the posttest session, the classical ability in writing poetry was 84.90%, where at the pretest stage it was 70.79%. The results show that poetry writing training containing character education through a mixed face-to-face and virtual method (Hybrid Learning) is able to improve the ability of elementary school teachers in writing creative poetry types. The improvement in the poetry writing skills of the participants was seen in all aspects of writing poetry, including themes and meanings, the power of imagination, accuracy of diction, and the message.

Abstract

Success in the learning process in elementary schools can be seen from the active participation of students in conveying their ideas and feelings through good speaking skills. The low speaking ability of students in elementary schools hurts the quality of learning. Therefore, learning media is needed to improve students' speaking skills, using interactive picture and picture learning media based on storyline articulation. This study aims to create learning media that can improve the speaking skills of elementary school students. This research is a research and development (RnD) with the ADDIE model which consists of five stages, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects of this study were teachers and students of grade 3 elementary school. Data collection techniques were carried out using documentation, interviews, and questionnaires. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative analysis technique and quantitative analysis. The results of the study obtained valid, practical. Effective learning media with an excellent validity level, namely 92% and 90.90% for materials and media, the practicality level of students and teachers was 82.5%; 85% and 82.5%; 90% with a convenient category and has an effect that can be seen from the Z count of -3.411 with Asymp. Sig 0.001 of 12 and 15 students from the limited group and the broad group who took the test and had a pretest average of 68.4 and got a post-test average of 83.4. Thus, this media can improve the speaking skills of elementary school children.

Abstract

The lack of success in learning Indonesian in fifth-grade elementary schools is dominant in the low productive language skills. The limitations of learning resources such as textbooks are one of the causes of the emergence of these problems. This study aims to develop Indonesian language textbooks containing character education through the Active Learning model by utilizing literature as a learning resource. The type of research used is development research with the following stages: exploration, model development, and model testing. The subjects of this research were the fifth-grade elementary school students at the exploration stage, as many as 30 students. At the development stage, as many as 56 students and as many as 165 students at the testing stage. Data was collected through documentation studies, observations, interviews, and questionnaires. The data analysis technique was conducted qualitatively using an interactive model at the exploration and product development stages. The statistical analysis used an independent sample t-test at the model test stage. The test begins with prerequisite analysis and hypothesis testing. The research results at the exploration stage showed that the textbooks used were not by the needs of elementary school students and teachers, then a needs analysis and development of a textbook prototype were carried out. At the stage of testing the effectiveness with the main field trial, it showed a difference between the experimental and control groups. The study concludes that Indonesian language textbooks are stated to improve student's language skills in elementary school. The use of textbooks is recommended to support effective language learning.
