Abstract

This article focuses on how Jews realized Israel on Palestine land. In realizing the dream, Jews established their movement, namely Zionism, to take Palestine over Ottoman Turkey. To analyze it, historical analysis and approach by library research are needed in collecting the data. The study revealed that there were two strategies of Zionism. The first strategy is releasing Palestine from Ottoman Turkey authority. The second strategy is how to take over Palestine land, which was occupied by Palestinian Arabian. The first strategy consists of several ways: insinuating into Ottoman Turkey government and lobbying big countries such as Britain, France, and the USA. The second strategy started by controlling economics in Palestine. The Jewish people who lived in Palestine did it. They terrorized Palestinian people; hence they refugeed and left their homeland. The third strategy is the war between Jews and Arabian which was won by the Jews. Therefore, Israel proclamation did not find any obstacles. However, the proclamation triggered a reaction from Arabian countries, so that it made never-ending conflicts. Eventually, the conflict becomes an international matter.

Abstract

The development of the plantation economy in Jember at the end of the 19th century required a large workforce, something that could not be met by the local population. The colonial government responded by bringing in workers from western East Java, the Vorstenlanden, and Madura Island. These migrants eventually settled in Jember and became pioneers for subsequent waves of migration until the Second World War. The entry of Javanese and Madurese people into Jember shaped the physical characteristics of settlements that have survived to this day. The settlement arrangements made by the colonial government were based on ecological and cultural considerations of migrants, and plantation-oriented resulted in a unique pattern of segregation. After Indonesia's independence, villages in Jember became more fluid in terms of demographic composition, however, the physical and cultural characteristics that indicate a village has Javanese or Madurese cultural roots are still clearly visible. This article describes the process of the formation of villages in Jember with a comparison of “Javanese villages” and “Madurese villages” to find out how far the colonial government's intervention influenced the formation of villages, and how the villagers concerned maintain their cultural identity as migrant newcomers.

Abstract

The research questions are: why many Chinese newcomers got married with the indigenous people in the past, when marital assimilation decreased and its factors, how the recent condition is, and what the impacts of marital assimilation towards their culture are. The result of research shows that marital assimilation happened since the Chinese people decided to stay longer in Indonesia. However at the end of 18th century, the marital assimilation decreased. It was triggered by many Chinese women who arrived in Java. Therefore many peranakans Chinese got married with the indigenous Chinese women. Yet it did not mean assimiliation was no longer in existence. The marital assimilation was executed again in the era of New Order. The wisdom of government affected the marital assimilation. The impact of the assimilation is the mixing of culture and tradition because of the unity of two ethnicities in one family.

Stunting is an obstacle to the nation's progress because if there are no strategic efforts to prevent and reduce the numbers. The role of the media today is vital because it is one of the elements incorporated in the Penta helix that accelerates the reduction. This service aims to use the press to reduce stunting rates through educational products. The method involves four steps: planning, socialization, mentoring training, and mentoring stages. The planning stage consists of preparation, observation, problem mapping, and preparation of a mentoring plan. The mentoring stage consists of two steps: making educational videos and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). The results of this study show that the media plays a strategic role in efforts to prevent the increase in stunting rates. This is done by actively involving the community in contributing to making educational videos that focus on the issue of stunting, especially in the Lampeji village area, Mumbulsari District, Jember Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the representation of nature, the value of caring for the environment, and an eco-critical perspective in the poem Tamasya Danau Toba. The method in this research is descriptive qualitative. The source of the data in this study is a poem entitled Tamasya Danau Toba by Sitor Situmorang. The result of this research is that Nature's Representation in the poem Tamasya Danau Toba includes dictions: mountains, water, lakes, earth, sky, rocks, lava, grass, forests, continents, fields, rice fields, and trees. The value of caring for the environment is in the form of a description of the condition of the forest that is threatened with extinction and the clearing of increasingly wide fields. The eco-critical perspective in the poem Tamasya Danau Toba is that the clearing of fields/rice fields must take into account the balance of nature in this case the forest. Millions of hectares of Indonesia's forests are damaged every year, at the beginning of the year Indonesia was hit by various disasters such as floods and landslides. Experts argue that one of the causes is the increasingly widespread conversion of forests to oil palm or rubber.

All aspects of the mutual cooperation dimension which includes aspects of collaboration, caring and sharing have emerged when researchers conducted observations on students. Thus, further efforts are needed, such as teachers in implementing the mutual cooperation dimension using the STAD cooperative model, should be more innovative and provide more in-depth assistance during group learning. Students should have high motivation, so that they are more serious and actively involved when discussing in groups.
