Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Immunoglobulin G (IgG) from colostrum of hyperimmune colostrum obtained from vaccinated cattle with H5N1 vaccine is potential to be developed into passive immunotherapy product for “bird flu” infection. The administration of passive therapy can be done orally, but the environmental conditions of the digestive tract can cause IgG damage, so the microencapsulation technique was used in this study to protect IgG. This study aimed to evaluate the absobrption of H5N1 IgG anti-Avian Influenza which was microencapsulated using rats (Rattus novergicus) as animals model. This study was conducted using 108 adult male white rats (Rattus norvegicus), Wistar strain, approx. 250 grams of body weight. Rats were divided into three treatment groups (N = 36), i.e. control group (K) were given aqua distilled water, suspension group (S) were given anti-H5N1 IgG suspension, and microcapsules group (M) were given microcapsules equivalent to suspension with the titer of 25. Necropsy was carried out at four observation points (2, 4, 6 and 8 hours) to collected blood through the heart and collected in vacutainer without anticoagulants to obtain serum. The blood serum then analyzed for total protein and globulin and albumin/globulin ratio (A/ G). The results showed that the level of total protein and globulin group M was higher and significantly different (P> 0.05) compared to K and S at the end point of observation. The A/G ratio in group K showed a significant increase (P> 0.05) at the end point of observation while in group M there was a marked decrease (P> 0.05) at the time point of 2 hours to 4 hours and then constant until the end of observation. These results showed that administration of anti-H5N1 IgG microcapsules can increase total levels of protein and globulin in the blood.

Abstract

The patients : 5 cats, came to “Klinik Hewan Cimanggu”, complains from the clients were includinglistlessness, anorexia, diarrhea, and constipation. From the Physical examination they showed a palemucous membrane, hyperaemic on sclera, larger of cranial abdominal . Laboratory finding on bloodssmear showed blood parasites in red cells that suspected as Babesia sp. One of them concurrently withhaemobartonella sp infections. The general result of blood laboratory test showed anemia andthrombocytopenia. Its treated by clindamycin (10 mg/Kg BW) and multivitamin twice a day for 3 weeksand parasitemia level in 1000 red cell was count before treated. Reexamination of smear red cell wasdone during and after treatment. In general they had demonstrated the decrease of parasitemia level. Some of them didn’t showed any changes of parasitemia level, however they showed morphological changesthat indicate inactive condition of parasites. The decrease of parasitemia level or the morphologicalchanges of parasites indicates that the development of parasitemia level has been depressed, so theclinical signs decreased and the animal’s condition improved. It believed that clindamycin inhibits proteinsynthesization in ribosome causing the damage to the parasite, but it will not eliminate the parasitesrapidly from peripheral blood. The Clindamycin treatment on cats with babesiosis will not induct the sideeffects .

Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate the role of low dose nicotine on the profile of blood glucose and  â-cell of pancreatic islets.  Fourteen adult (aged 6 – 8 years) male cynomolgus monkeys grouped based ontheir Body Mass Index (BMI) into preobese (BMI=23.65 – 25.00) and obese (BMI e” 26.00) were used inthis study. Subsequently animals were grouped into four:  (i) preobese monkeys with nicotine (pOb+), (ii)obese monkeys with nicotine (Ob+), (iii) preobese monkeys without nicotine (pOb-), and (iv) obese monkeyswithout nicotine (Ob-). Animals in the nicotine groups were fed with high fat diet mixed with nicotine dose0.5–0.75mg/kg body weight/day for three months and the others were fed Monkey Chow® only as thecontrol group. Blood samples were collected every month for glucose analysis and necropsy was performedat the end of study. Pancreas tissues were processed histologically and stained using  immunohistochemicalmethod. The results showed that the blood glucose either preobese (28.37%) or  obese (33.72%) animals inthe nicotine groups significantly decrease (p<0.05) during the study period in comparison to the controlgroup.  Based on brown color intensity of granules cytoplasm of insulin producing cells or immunoreactiveâ-cells, it is shown that the cells of animals in the non nicotine group were more reactive than those in thenicotine groups. In conclusion, there was positive effect of low dose nicotine in maintaining the bloodglucose level in normal range by stimulation of islet cells proliferation to maintain the production ofinsulin in the pancreatic islet.

Abstract

Endocardiosis is a disease commonly found in Pomeranian dog characterized by progressive myxomatousdegeneration of the atrio-ventricular valves especially in the mitral valve. The purpose of this study was todefine the diagnose and severeity of this disease on the Pomeranian by using brightness mode, motion mode, dan color flow Doppler echocardiography technique. Echocardiography was performed on 8 Pomeranianconsisting of 6 males and 2 females with age range of 2-14 years. Brightness mode echocardiography wasused to see the echotexture of endocardium, mitral valve, and the valve movement. The results showedendocardium thickening, along with chronic fibrosis and nodular thickening of the anterior and posteriormitral valve leaflet. Three out of seven cases showed prolapsed of the mitral valve. Motion modeechocardiography was performed in order to measure left ventricle internal dimension, myocardium thickness, fractional shortening, left atrial and aortic dimension. The results showed myocardium thickening, alongwith left atrial enlargement. Color flow Doppler echocardiography was used to confirm the mitral valveregurgitation. Three of seven cases showed the presence of regurgitation signed by turbulence color of theprolapsed mitral valve. Based on the degree of severity, scoring system used in this study, endocardiosis canbe divided into three types that are mild, moderate and severe.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the prevalence and severity rate of scabies on goats in Sub-District of Mempawah Hilir, Mempawah, West Kalimantan. The goat livestock used were not determined by age, sex, and breed. The number of goats researched was 100 goats. Scabies prevalence measurement was to divide the number of scabies goats by total goats, then multiplied by 100% and measurement of the severity rate of scabies goats with scoring with grades 1-3 (low), 4-6 (moderate), and 7-9 (heavy). The results obtained scabies prevalence rate of 38% with 38 positive samples from a population of 100 goats and the percentage of severity was 42%, moderate 24%, and 34% severe. This is due to weather factors in the area and the type of cage as well as inadequate maintenance management, thus making many cases of scabies attack goats.
