Abstract

Rawa Taliwang is one of the major lakes in West Sumbawa Regency and is vulnerable to mercury (Hg) contamination resulting from surrounding activities such as illegal gold mining, agricultural runoff, and domestic waste disposal. This study aimed to determine the mercury concentration in catfish (Clarias batrachus) inhabiting the lake and to assess its safety for human consumption. Fish samples were collected from two sampling stations using purposive sampling and analyzed in the laboratory using a Mercury Analyzer. The measured mercury concentrations ranged from 0.058 to 0.086 mg/kg, with an average of 0.072 mg/kg, which is below the maximum allowable limit of 0.50 mg/kg set by the Indonesian National Agency for Drug and Food Control (BPOM) Regulation No. 9/2022. These results indicate that catfish from Rawa Taliwang Lake remain safe for consumption. Continued monitoring and improved environmental management are recommended to prevent future increases in mercury contamination and to ensure long-term ecosystem and public health safety.

Abstract

Taliwang Swamp Lake is a source of livelihood for the people of West Sumbawa. High levels of local activity, such as agriculture and mining, have the potential to pollute the lake with mercury (Hg) due to waste from the amalgamation process and fertilizer residues flowing into the lake. This study aims to determine the heavy metal content of mercury (Hg) in snakehead fish (Channa striata) from Rawa Taliwang Lake and its suitability for consumption. Sampling was carried out using a purposive sampling technique at both stations. The criteria for selecting the sampling location were that it could represent the west and east sides of the lake and also take into account the fishing points that could be accessed, considering that the lake was partly covered with vegetation. Data analysis included determining mercury (Hg) levels using a mercury analyzer. The results showed that the mercury (Hg) content in snakehead fish was 0.078 mg/kg. This level is still suitable for consumption according to Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) regulation No. 9 of 2022.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is defined as an elevation in blood pressure beyond the normal limit, specifically exceeding 140/90 mmHg. The increase in blood pressure is attributed to indirect causes related to dietary habits and lifestyle, leading to a deficiency in knowledge. A knowledge deficit refers to a lack of cognitive information or non-adherence to recommended dietary and lifestyle modifications. Consequently, educational interventions are implemented to enhance understanding of appropriate lifestyle and dietary patterns. One non-pharmacological therapy that may be provided is education on the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet. This study aim was to provide an overview of DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) education for hypertensive patients with the nursing diagnosis of knowledge deficit, by offering a clearer understanding of the importance of DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) in hypertensive patients. Method: A descriptive design was used, which is a design intended to improve a knowledge deficit. Results: There was an effect on the knowledge deficit, resulting in an increase in knowledge and a change in blood pressure. This was evidenced by Client 1, who was able to answer 8 questions correctly on the questionnaire, with a percentage indicating 'Good,' while Client 2 was only able to answer 6 questions correctly, with a percentage indicating 'Fair,' due to factors such as age, education, and environment. Both clients appeared to understand the low-salt diet, and their blood pressure improved. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study involving two respondents, there was an effect on their knowledge deficit regarding DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) as well as a change in their blood pressure.

Abstract

The Sekaroh Forest Area in Jerowaru District, East Lombok Regency, possesses significant biodiversity potential that supports sustainable ecotourism and serves as an ecological buffer zone in the southeastern coastal region of Lombok Island. This study aimed to analyze the diversity, abundance, and distribution of fauna as a basis for environmental management and ecotourism development. The study was conducted across three habitat types, namely grassland, savanna, and plantation forest. The observed fauna included arthropods, reptiles, birds, and mammals, which were documented through surveys and field observations. The data were analyzed using diversity, abundance, dominance, distribution pattern, and inter-habitat similarity indices. The results revealed that the Sekaroh Forest Area exhibits relatively high faunal diversity, with distinct community characteristics in each habitat type. Savanna and plantation forest habitats had higher abundances of birds and arthropods than grassland habitats, whereas certain reptiles and mammals were found only in specific habitats. These findings indicate that the Sekaroh Forest Area has high ecological value and considerable ecotourism potential; therefore, it should be managed sustainably, with careful consideration of environmental conservation.

Abstract

Catfish (Clarias batrachus) is one of the fish species that is an indicator of pollution in Lake Taliwang. This study aims to determine the levels of Lead (Pb) in the muscles of Catfish (Clarias batrachus). Consumers who consume Catfish exposed to Pb need to be protected from their health. Catfish were caught in the waters of Lake Taliwang using gill nets. There are 2 data collection stations, namely on the east and west sides of the lake. Fish samples were taken as many as 2 fish for each station. Furthermore, each fish sample was wrapped in a plastic bag and stored in a sample box. The fish samples were then analyzed at the West Nusa Tenggara Health, Testing and Calibration Laboratory Center. The data analysis method was carried out by taking muscle tissue from the fish and then analyzing the Pb heavy metal content using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). The conclusion of this study is that the Pb heavy metal content in Clarias batrachus is less than 0.5 ppm which indicates that the fish is still safe because the Pb level is still below the threshold according to applicable regulations in Indonesia.
