Abstract

Stigma against people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) (PLWHA) poses significant health threats and contributes to the uncontrolled transmission of HIV. Although tools for measuring stigma against PLWHA have been validated in Indonesia, a previous study was geographically limited and conducted with small sample sizes. The aim of this study was to perform cross-cultural adaptation and validate the psychometric properties of the 9-item Indonesian HIV/AIDS Stigma Scale (InHASS-9) in the Indonesian general population. Utilizing a cross-sectional design, the study recruited 1,302 participants from six major islands in Indonesia. The validity of the instrument was determined using recognized group validity and construct validity, while internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha. During the adaptation phase, nine simple items were finalized for inclusion in the scale. The findings revealed that the InHASS-9 instrument exhibited strong internal consistency, with Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.83, indicating high reliability. In conclusion, the InHASS-9 instrument is a valid and reliable tool for assessing the extent of social stigma associated with PLWHA in Indonesia.

Abstract

Stomach ulcer is a prevalent digestive problem that can lead to serious complications such as bleeding in the digestive tract, perforation, recurrence, cancer, and even death. One of its potential remedies lies in the antioxidant compounds contained in hantap leaves. Accordingly, this study aimed to investigate the anti-gastric ulcer effects of hantap leaf extract in white male rats induced by water immersion and cold-resistant stress methods. Hantap leaf extract (EEDH) was obtained by maceration using 96% ethanol, resulting in a yield of 7.8%. The results of gastric macroscopic observations based on percentage of ulcer inhibition showed that EEDH doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg BW did not have a significant difference (p0.05) with ranitidine, exhibiting the same gastroprotective effects. An increase in the dose does not lead to a corresponding rise in the gastroprotective effect. Therefore, 50 mg/kg BW of EEDH was considered to be the optimum dose.

Abstract

The risk of various degenerative diseases is more experienced by older adults than young people. One of the most common health problems among the elderly is hypertension. Delays in treating hypertensive patients are caused by the majority of patients only coming to health facilities after experiencing complications and lack of access to public health services. The incidence of dyslipidemia and diabetes mellitus (DM) also continues to grow, which are risk factors for coronary heart disease. For this reason, promotive and preventive efforts for the elderly group are significant through increasing knowledge and understanding of degenerative diseases. The community service partner is the Banpres Pololo Community Health Center, one of the community health centers in Sigi Regency with high cases of degenerative diseases, and the target of community service is the elderly in Uenuni Palolo village. Implementing the activity was health education about hypertension, DM, and dyslipidemia, health screening, and health counseling. The screening results found that 94.12% of older adults suffered from hypertension, 17.65% suffered from DM, and 52.94% suffered from hypercholesterolemia. Health counseling results show that most older adults did not understand the importance of early detection of degenerative diseases. Therefore, health education and counseling for the community still need to be improved.

Abstract

Aging is a natural process that increases the risk of health problems, with older adults often facing both physical and mental challenges. Efforts to improve public understanding of elderly health and the need for regular check-ups are essential. Health education from the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (IAI) plays a role in raising awareness about the correct use of medication. Regular health examinations for the elderly are important for early detection, prevention of complications, and appropriate treatment, covering blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, weight, and height. This program involved older adults in Panau Village, Tawaeli District, using a participatory empowerment approach that emphasizes community involvement. The goal is to raise awareness of the importance of regular health tests to prevent degenerative diseases, provide routine check-ups, and deliver health education to the elderly and their families to encourage healthy lifestyles. Activities included cholesterol, blood sugar, uric acid, and blood pressure checks, as well as health education. The results of this community service program will be published in the Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Indonesia (JPMI).

Abstract

Poorly controlled hypertension in hypertensive patients can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease in the future. Some of the triggering factors are impaired kidney function which is characterized by an increase in creatinine levels and other factors as well, namely an increase in uric acid levels and an increase in blood sugar levels. This study aims to analyze the correlation between blood glucose, creatinine, and uric acid levels in hypertensive patients in Central Sulawesi. With a cross-sectional design, this observational study involved 50 adult hypertensive patients in health facilities. Data were taken from laboratory examination results during visits and analyzed descriptively and analytically. The results showed that 60% of hypertensive patients were female, 62% had a family history of hypertension, and 80% still had blood pressure that was included in the criteria for hypertension. As many as 34% of hypertensive patients had abnormal blood glucose levels, 32% had abnormal creatinine levels, and 26% had abnormal uric acid levels. Still, no relationship was found between the three with blood pressure (p> 0.05). The correlation between blood glucose and blood pressure was -0.221, creatinine and blood pressure was -0.112, and uric acid and blood pressure was 0.132. It can be concluded that there is a positive correlation with a very weak correlation strength between uric acid levels and blood pressure in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Anemia is a global problem, especially for adolescent girls and pregnant women. The high prevalence of anemia among adolescents increases susceptibility to disease in adulthood. Likewise, in pregnant women, anemia has the potential to cause complications in pregnancy and childbirth as well as maternal and child mortality. Increasing the knowledge of adolescent girls and pregnant women in efforts to recognize signs and symptoms of anemia, prevent and overcome anemia and motivation to undergo examinations related to anemia needs to be done. Therefore, community service activities are carried out to participate in educational efforts through the wish and care program in order to increase awareness and understanding of adolescent girls and pregnant women around the PKM area, namely Tosale village. The wish and care program is provided in the form of education, counseling, and practice, namely physical examination and Hb levels in 42 community service participants. Evaluation is carried out through pre-test and post-test. The results of the education showed an increase in knowledge in the good category of 71.43% and the sufficient category of 11.90%. The results obtained indicate that the wish and care method can increase public knowledge and awareness of early detection of anemia.

Abstract

Introduction: Eel fish oil (Anguilla marmorata (Q.) Gaimard) highlighted its nutritional advantages, especially vitamin A, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), and omega-3. Unsaturated fats in fish oil are known to have positive effects in the treatment of various diseases, although the potential negative impacts also need to be considered. Methods: This research aims to focus on the cytotoxic activity of eel fish oil and carry out extraction using the soxhlation method, Thomson and Weil, and Metode fixed dose. To evaluate the toxicity of the extract, the acute toxicity test was carried out by measuring the middle lethal dose (LD50), which is often used as a benchmark. Apart from that, the research also aims to determine the lethal dose 50 (LD??) value of eel fish oil, namely the dose that can cause the death of 50% of the test animal population. The extraction process uses diethyl ether solvent at 60°C, followed by purification using a 3% bentonite adsorbent. The test was carried out twice with female mice and rats as test animals, divided into groups with oral doses of 5, 50, 300, 2000, and 5000 mg/kg. Result: The results showed no deaths in the test animals, and the LD50 of eel fish oil extract was greater than the dose used. Clinical symptoms in mice include decreased motor activity and increased grooming frequency as the dose increases, as well as increased muscle tone and tension responses. Conclusion: Based on the research results, it can be concluded that eel fish oil extracts up to a dose of 5000 mg/kg are still classified as "safe" for use because they do not cause death in test animals.
