Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy is still a public health problem in Indonesia that affects mothers and babies. The government has implemented a supplementation program for iron tablets (IBT) to prevent anemia, but the compliance of pregnant women with these tablets is still low. Various factors, such as lack of awareness, side effects, and mothers’ perceptions of the importance of IBT, contribute to low compliance rates. This study analyzes the impact of the main reasons for not taking IBT on the number of tablets consumed during pregnancy based on data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI). This study used an analytical cross-sectional study design with secondary data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey. The independent variable was the main reason for not taking IBT, while the dependent variable was the number of tablets consumed during pregnancy (≥90). Data analysis was performed using correlation and regression. The results showed that the main reasons for not taking IBT were forgetting (30.39%), nausea/vomiting due to pregnancy (21.57%), bad taste and smell (12.60%), and side effects (12.57%). Most pregnant women did not reach the recommended consumption amount, with 60.37% consuming less than 90 tablets. The reason with the most significant influence on compliance was “not yet up to the end of time” (R=0.344, R²=0.117, p=0.030). The main factors influencing compliance of pregnant women in consuming iron tablets were perception of the need for supplements, side effects, and lack of awareness. Increasing education, social support, monitoring strategies, and reminders for consumption are needed to improve pregnant women’s compliance with iron tablets to reduce the incidence of anemia in Indonesia.

Abstract

Health level is a measure of a country’ welfare. The purpose of this study was to determine the  impact  of health promotion with maternal and child health (MCH) books on knowledge, attitudes and health behavior of pregnant women at the UPTD Health Center of Pati Regency because high maternal mortality rate (MMR) indicates that maternal health is still poor.  The type of research is Quasy-Experiment (pre-experimental designs). The research design used Pretest-Posttest Control Group design. Sampling in this study was non-random sampling with purposive sampling type. Based on the population of pregnant women in 29 UPTD Health Centers in Pati regency, 2 Health Centers were determined to be objects of research, namely UPTD Kayen Health Center and UPTD Pati II Health Center. The results showed that frequency distribution of respondents’ answers in the control group or Pati II Health Center showed that the pretest and posttest values in responents did not increase in the value of the knowledge variable of pregnant women. Meanwhile, the frequency distribution of the respondents showed the pretest and posttest  in the experimental group or Kayen health Center respondents, where there was an increase in the value of the variable of knowledge of pregnant women which was getting better. The results of the Wilcolzon Signed Rank  Test in the control group showed that the sig pretest and posttest values of the behavioral variables in the control group were > 0.05 so it can be concluded that there was no change in the behavior or pregnant women in the control group. The results of the Wilcoxon signed rank test in the intervention group showed that the sig pretest and posttest values of the behavioral variables of pregnant women in the experimental group were <0,05 so it can be concluded that there was a change in the behavior of pregnant women in the intervention group.

Abstract

Stunting is a complex public health problem in Indonesia. The incidence of stunting in Kudus City was 3,601 toddlers (5.85%), with the highest prevalence in Dawe District (13.32%), Undaan District (11.13%), Gebog District (10.66%), and 238 children under five, accompanied by comorbidities such as acute respiratory tract infections (ARI), diarrhea, tuberculosis (TB), and worms. One of the determining factors for success in combating stunting is family independence in managing the health of toddlers. However, family independence is constrained by limited access to information, lack of balanced nutrition education, sanitation, personal hygiene, symptoms of comorbidities, monitoring and development of toddlers not routinely, non-compliance with immunization and treatment. Smartphone applications can be used to overcome these obstacles. This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of the “Family Care Stunting” smartphone application in improving the health independence of families of stunted toddlers with comorbidities. This study used a research and development design, with 201 respondents from families of stunted toddlers who had comorbidities. Effectiveness was analyzed using the Wilcoxon nonparametric differential test to compare the level of family health independence before and after the intervention. There was a significant increase in the level of family health independence after the intervention of the “Family Care Stunting” smartphone application (p-value = 0.000). This application has the potential to be an innovative tool that supports families to play an active role in child health management, thereby contributing to more comprehensive stunting prevention and handling efforts.

Abstract

Leptin plays a role in regulating the growth of bones and other body tissues. Leptin can affect the epiphyseal growth zones in long bones, contributing to height growth. The aim of this research is to analyze leptin levels and body height in toddlers before and after giving additional food based on Moringa leaves and sea fish. The supplementary feeding intervention was carried out for 10 weeks on 30 toddlers with stunted and very stunted nutritional status at the Sedan Community Health Center, Rembang Regency. Leptin levels in the blood were analyzed using ELISA, height measurements were carried out using a stadiometer, determination of nutritional status was guided by the PERMENKES regarding 2020 child anthropometry standards, and data analysis used the SPSS program. The results of the study showed that the average leptin level decreased and the average body height increased after the intervention of providing additional food based on Moringa leaves and sea fish. Thus, it can be concluded that decreasing leptin levels can cause a decrease in fat and adipogenesis which results in increased bone formation in the form of increased height in stunted toddlers at the Sedan Community Health Center, Rembang Regency.
