The data analysis includes filtering the lexemes and analyzing the components of meaning in each lexeme by adding semantic notations to semantic features in each lexeme. The differences in components of meaning are determined by several semantic features such as the device of seeing, the way of seeing, the object, and the feeling through the process of seeing.

Abstract

This research aims at finding out the use of crossword puzzle in improving vocabulary mastery at seven grade students of SMP Negeri 10 Palu. This research applied a quasi-experimental design, in which there were two groups, an experimental and a control group. Seven grade E was the experimental group, while seven grade F was the control group. This research involved 50 students of SMP Negeri 10 Palu. The samples of this research were taken from the population of grade seven students by using a purposive sampling technique. The researcher used tests as the instrument for collecting data. The tests were divided into two; pre-test and post-test which were given to the experimental and control group. The treatment was conducted six times and was given to the experimental group by using a crossword puzzle, while the control group used the other technique. The data obtained from the test were analysed statistically. From the analysis, there was a difference between the achievement of the experimental (85.5) and the control group (44.2). It was based on the hypothesis testing done, by using 0.05 level of significance and 48 degrees of freedom (df), the researcher found that t-counted (6.08) is higher than t-table (2.0126). It means that the hypothesis (Ha) is accepted or in other words, the use of crossword puzzles has a significant effect on students’ learning outcomes in learning vocabulary.

Abstract

This research delves into the profound narrative artistry of Graham Greene's "The Power and The Glory" by analyzing 10 selected similes representing five types based on XuoGuo's classification. The simile types include Descriptive, Illuminative, Illustrative, Open, and Closed Similes, each contributing uniquely to the novel's thematic tapestry. Utilizing a qualitative method, the research systematically categorizes and scrutinizes similes, identifying prevalent types, and unraveling their patterns and thematic implications. Descriptive similes, comparing a shark's fin to a periscope, enhance vivid imagery and introduce concealed dangers. Illuminative similes, equating knowledge to a dark explicable spot in an X-ray photograph, provide nuanced insights into character understanding and thematic depth. Illustrative similes, likening a gold bangle to a padlock, introduce visual metaphors and layers of meaning. Open similes, like having golden shoes, infuse imaginative qualities into actions, while closed similes, comparing a man to Prometheus, draw explicit parallels, enriching characterizations with mythological undertones. This research identifies a total of 47 similes within the novel. By shedding light on the intricate use of similes in "The Power and The Glory," this research contributes significantly to understanding Greene's stylistic choices, serving as a valuable resource for scholars, literary enthusiasts, and those exploring the depths of figurative language in Greene's masterful storytelling.

Abstract

Abstract

Purpose: This study analyzed the impact of government size in the field of infrastructure on digital inequality in Indonesia. Method: This study uses panel data analysis with the CEM, FEM, and REM approaches using research samples from the Central Bureau of Statistics, Ministry of Finance, and International Telecommunication Union in Indonesia. Results: The results of this study indicate that government-sized infrastructure has a negative and significant effect on the ICT Index, while the square government-sized infrastructure/infrastructure expenditure optimization effect has a positive and significant impact on the ICT Index, and the implementation of the infrastructure budget supports digital equity; therefore, it is necessary to have an equal distribution of infrastructure in all corners in order to proportionally increase the allocation of the infrastructure budget. This means that the size of the government is still too small to equalize the increase in the ICT development index. Based on the government size threshold, the average for each province in Indonesia reached 68 percent. Limitations: This study was limited to the national level of each region in Indonesia. Contributions: This study aims to serve as a reference for government considerations in strategic policies related to infrastructure spending and issues of the technology change strategy.

This research is in the form of qualitative research using an ethnographic approach in the perspective of living hadith, also elaborating the theory of Coastal Islam which was initiated by Nursyam. This study aims to describe the raba'akia tradition as a result of the transmission of local culture into local Islamic culture originating from the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad. with the sociocultural context of the Air Manis community. This research finds that people are trying to articulate Islamic teachings about the hadith of the arrival of a disaster on the last Wednesday of the month of Safar. The raba'akia tradition is maintained by the Air Manis community because it has been commemorated from generation to generation by the Air Manis community. Every procession in the raba'akia ritual shows the existence of "self-purification" and "hoping for blessings" carried out by various means. One of the highlights is the use of aia paureh or holy water which is believed by the community to be able to provide blessings and resist disease and calamities that will befall the Air Manis Community

It is known that there were three popular Jewish groups in Madina, namely the Banu Qainuqā, the Banu Naḍīr, and the Banu Qurayẓah. In addition, the author wants to explore the factors that influence the dynamics of the connection between the Prophet Muhammad SAW and the Jews. In order to find out the answer to the question, this research was conducted using qualitative methods from the perspective of Ralf Dahrendorf's conflict theory. The results of this study were: First, the relations started when the Prophet Muhammad SAW moved to Madina and the involvement of the Jews in a mutual agreement. Opening area, temperature, and humidity were measured using a thermometer, hydrometer, and meter. This research uses a quantitative approach that evaluates theory by measuring variables explicitly in the field. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of thermal comfort in cafes that operate with different air conditioning and lighting conditions from afternoon to evening. This study shows that thermal comfort at Rindang Cafe and Eatery Palembang is strongly influenced by the layout of the air conditioning and lighting.
