Abstract

This study aims to explore cultural entropy in higher education institutions, with a focus on understanding its impact on employee performance and organizational dynamics. The research investigates factors influencing cultural entropy, the relationship with leadership, and parallels with healthcare settings. Conducted as a systematic literature review, this research employs a bottom-up approach, reviewing articles from Scopus, Emerald, and Google Scholar (2010-2023). The analysis includes factors contributing to cultural entropy, leadership styles, and the impact on organizational performance in higher education. The findings reveal that cultural entropy in higher education is influenced by factors such as bureaucratic excess, unclear communication, and limited employee engagement. Transformational leadership emerges as a crucial factor in addressing cultural entropy, emphasizing the need for leaders who can instigate positive change and foster a culture of continuous learning. The research is limited by the relatively small body of literature on cultural entropy in higher education. Further research is needed to explore tailored approaches for diverse academic contexts and to develop specific interventions for mitigating cultural entropy in educational settings. The study underscores the importance of proactive leadership in managing cultural entropy. Higher education institutions can benefit from strategies inspired by successful interventions in healthcare settings. Implementing policies and supports to address employee stress and cultural entropy can contribute to a more balanced and sustainable work environment. This study contributes to the limited body of literature on cultural entropy within educational institutions, shedding light on its unique manifestations and challenges. The exploration of parallels between healthcare and academia provides a novel perspective, emphasizing the distinct dynamics at play in educational settings. The study encourages further investigation into tailored approaches for addressing cultural entropy in diverse academic contexts.

Out of a total of 208 articles initially considered, the final analysis focuses on seven key articles for comparative evaluation. The research delves into various aspects of talent management, including recruitment strategies, employee development initiatives, and retention policies implemented by SMEs. The study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how talent management is perceived and experienced by employees in the unique setting of SMEs in Indonesia. By synthesizing findings from the selected articles, the review addresses crucial factors such as the role of technology, shifts in organizational culture, and specific challenges faced by employees in managing talent within SMEs. Through this systematic approach, the research contributes theoretical insights and practical implications for enhancing talent management practices in the SME sector. The findings aim to offer valuable guidance to SME leaders, human resource practitioners, and researchers seeking to optimize talent management strategies in the dynamic business landscape of Indonesia. The research that integrates the employee perspective into talent management is still relatively scarce, especially with a focus on small and medium-sized micro enterprises in Indonesia. This literature review specifically concentrates on the employee's standpoint within the context of talent management. A systematic literature review approach is employed in this study, assisted by the VOS Viewer application. The PRISMA method is used for the review. Out of the 154 Scopus articles reviewed, including empirical studies, conceptual articles, and book chapters, 7 articles specifically address the employee perspective in talent management research in SMEs. The literature review identifies that, although recent literature involves employees as key participants in strategic talent management, conceptual and empirical articles in this stream are still limited and require further conceptual and empirical development.

Abstract

Reading and writing literacy is the main ability that students must master, because reading and writing can greatly impact the quality of human life. Arahan sub-district, Arahan Kidul village is one of the places where the Indonesian Education University's Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKN-T) program is held for one month. It is known that there is still little attention paid to interest in reading and writing in the Arahan Village, therefore, in KKN-T activities, there is a joint learning work program which is expected to help students to be more active in learning to read and write. In this article, we will discuss the initial stages of activities and the implementation stages of the joint learning program. This article uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach by collecting data obtained from observations and short interviews with students. The results found from this research were that students' lack of interest in reading and writing was due to a lack of supporting facilities and infrastructure. Meanwhile, students' motivation to learn to read and write is classified as very high. The impact resulting from this KKN-T activity is that human resources are facilitated to help guide students in learning to read and write so that students' enthusiasm is awakened to be more active in learning to read and write independently. Future recommendations hope the village and school can provide innovation and special learning media for elementary school students in Arahan Kidul.
