Abstract

Al-Takdi>m and al-Ta’khi>r are considered among the most important aspects of the miracle of the holy Qur’an, as every word in it comes in a distinctive way, and every change in this arrangement becomes a clear defect in the meaning. Despite the many secrets of al-Takdi>m and al-Ta’khi>r and its various types, many commentators did not pay attention to it and did not explain the secrets it has in its meaning. Speech, and most of their care in explaining what was presented was to say: Al-Takdi>m and al-Ta’khi>r are a form of care and attention, and for this reason some scholars blamed those who made the matter of al-Takdi>m easy and his status small; This is because they think that it is sufficient to say about everything that has been presented: it has been brought forward to be taken care of, and because mentioning it is more important. Al-Alusi explained and applied the miracle of the Qur’an, especially the al-Takdi>m and al-Ta’khi>r in its interpretation called the Spirit of Meanings in the Interpretation of the Great Qur’an and the Seven Repeated Verses, a book famous for its author’s interest in the rhetorical aspect of the Holy Qur’an. This research deals with the secrets of al-Takdi>m and al-Ta’khi>r in Al-Alusi’s interpretation, through the inductive approach. Where its secrets are extrapolated in its interpretation; The comparative approach is to compare all the opinions mentioned regarding the secrets of advancement and delay with other exegetical books. At the end of this research, the results come, the most important of which are: the secrets of al-Takdi>m and al-Ta’khi>r: attention to the advance and interest to the latter, specification, and al-Takdi>m because it is included in praise, and the declaration of equality, and al-Takdi>m in existence, and al-Takdi>m of the best, and al-Takdi>m the path of receiving revelation. The secrets of al-Takdi>m and al-Ta’khi>r are considered in the interpretation of Al-Alusi, as an extension of Abd al-Qahir al-Jurjani’s approach to systems theory in his book “Dala’il al-I’jaz”, Al-Alusi distinguished himself from Al-Zamakhshari, Al-Razi, Abu Hayyan, and other commentators who preceded him in many investigations into the secrets of al-Takdi>m and al-Ta’khi>r in the holy Qur’an.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the semantic meaning of the Qur’anic term rahmah as a concept of universal compassion and its relevance to the ecological crisis and global warming. The modern environmental crisis reflects humanity’s loss of spiritual awareness toward the sanctity of nature as a manifestation of divine mercy (āyāt Allāh). This research applies Seyyed Hossein Nasr’s ecotheological framework, which views nature as the tajallī (manifestation) of divine mercy, using a qualitative descriptive approach through lexical-semantic analysis of Qur’anic verses containing the term rahmah (e.g., QS. Al-Anbiyā’ [21]:107; QS. Al-A‘rāf [7]:156; QS. Ar-Raḥmān [55]:1–13). The analysis was conducted in three stages: lexical, semantic-conceptual (based on Toshihiko Izutsu’s theory), and theological-ecological. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and expert judgment. The findings reveal four main dimensions of rahmah: theological (rahmah ilāhiyyah), social (rahmah insāniyyah), cosmological (rahmah kauniyyah), and contemporary ecological (rahmah ekologiyyah mu‘āṣirah). These dimensions collectively form the foundation of an Islamic ecological ethic that situates compassion as the core principle in environmental management and preservation. The study concludes that a spiritual approach grounded in the value of rahmah offers an alternative paradigm for addressing ecological crises by emphasizing balance and harmony between God, humanity, and nature.

Abstract

Abstract

Purpose - This study examines how two major Arabic-language news outlets, Al Jazeera Arabic and CNN Arabic, construct divergent discursive narratives surrounding the death of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Design/Methodology/Approach -Employing Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), this qualitative study analyzes eight news texts published between September and October 2025. The analysis covers three textual levels macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure, while integrating socio-cognitive models and broader sociopolitical contexts. All quotations from Arabic sources are preserved in their original form to maintain analytical accuracy. Findings - The findings reveal a systematic divergence in media framing between the two outlets. Al Jazeera Arabic situates the incident within a broader narrative of political polarization, ideological conflict, and structural instability in the United States, thereby transforming the event into a symbol of wider sociopolitical crisis. In contrast, CNN Arabic frames the same event as a procedural criminal case, relying predominantly on official statements, law enforcement sources, and institutional discourse. These differences are not merely stylistic, but reflect contrasting socio-cognitive models, editorial ideologies, and institutional orientations regarding the role of journalism and political interpretation. Research Limitation/Implications - Although limited to two outlets, the research demonstrates the usefulness of CDA in unveiling ideological layers and interpretive dynamics in Arab media coverage of U.S. political events.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and synthesize classical and modern phonological thought in the study of Arabic sounds through a comparative study between Al-Khalīl ibn Aḥmad and Noam Chomsky's generative phonological theory. The classical Arabic phonological tradition pioneered by Al-Khalīl through Kitāb al-‘Ayn provides a strong descriptive-empirical basis for the Arabic sound system, especially through the concepts of makhārij al-ḥurūf, ṣifāt al-ḥurūf, and i‘tilāf al-ḥurūf. Meanwhile, the generative phonological theory developed by Chomsky and Morris Halle offers a cognitive-theoretical approach by emphasizing abstract representation, transformation rules, and distinctive features in sound processing. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study design, through content analysis and a comparative approach to primary and secondary literature. The results of this study indicate that both approaches share common ground in viewing language as an ordered system, but differ in their epistemological orientation: classical phonology starts from articulatory observations, while generative phonology emphasizes the speaker's mental system. The synthesis of the two produces an integrative phonological model capable of explaining Arabic sound phenomena from both physiological and cognitive perspectives. This study is expected to enrich the development of contemporary Arabic phonological theory and open up opportunities for more comprehensive further research.
