Abstract

This study aimed to measure nutritional knowledge and observe teachers' perceptions of delivering nutrition messages through an e-module within the junior high school curriculum. This study was conducted at SMPN 35 Medan and employed the quasi-experimental approach, and a one-group pretest-posttest design was used. This study’s population was students in grades 7 and 8. The minimum sample size was 102 students after adding 10% of the total sample size. Teachers' perceptions were taken from four subject teachers. Data were collected using a questionnaire survey and an interview. A focus group discussion was conducted with the teachers to gather information about their perceptions of using an e-module to deliver nutrition messages at school. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that the student's average total knowledge score before receiving the nutrition education intervention was 22.66. It increased to 26.48 after students received the intervention. Teachers used the e-module to deliver content learning about nutritional messages in schools and employed the e-module to deliver the relevant subject matters of nutrition messages at school. The teachers realized the importance of delivering nutrition messages to the students. The e-module could broaden the teachers’ horizons as they came to realize that nutrition messages could be delivered through various subjects. They initially believed that nutrition messages could only be taught in the subject of natural sciences. However, they discovered that nutrition messages could also be delivered in other subjects, such as mathematics, crafts, and physical education.

Abstract

This study explores the uniqueness of Mandailing traditional cuisine, focusing on the cultural and nutritional significance of its iconic smoked fish dishes, such as smoked fish rendang, smoked fish curry, smoked fish with chili sauce, and smoked fish with vegetables. These dishes showcase the traditional fish smoking practices developed as a preservation method, allowing the Mandailing community to adapt to the abundance of rivers and natural resources in their highland environment. Smoking fish not only extended its shelf life but also became a cornerstone of Mandailing culinary identity, reflecting the community’s ingenuity and resourcefulness. Mandailing cuisine is deeply influenced by neighboring culinary traditions from West Sumatra and North Tapanuli, resulting in a rich fusion of bold flavors, often characterized using coconut milk and fresh spices. The preparation of smoked fish combines traditional high-heat cooking techniques with unique flavor profiles that distinguish Mandailing dishes from other Indonesian cuisines. This research highlights the importance of Mandailing smoked fish practices in sustaining local food systems and preserving cultural heritage. By emphasizing both cultural and nutritional aspects, it underlines the relevance of these traditional practices in promoting food diversity, environmental sustainability, and the recognition of Indonesia’s rich culinary landscape.

Abstract

Global warming and environmental issues are being caused by the overuse of fossil fuels and increased industrialization around the world, which has resulted in the production of greenhouse gases. As a result, it's crucial to reach net-zero carbon emissions. By balancing the total quantity of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gas emissions over a specific period and taking actions that are ecologically responsible, net zero carbon emissions can be accomplished. For environmental sustainability to be successful, it must be able to influence people's attitudes and behavior toward the environment. To understand NGOs' obligations in supporting net-zero carbon emissions, this paper presents a methodical debate utilizing NGOs as case studies. The method is employed in this work by reviewing the body of primary and secondary research on the study issue. This essay initially lists different environmental NGOs organizations before categorizing and outlining some of the significant GHGs reduction initiatives made by these organizations. This essay also addresses key issues that must be addressed upon to achieve the best outcomes. This report gives a broad overview of the synergizing domains that NGOs around the globe work in to assist improvement environmental security.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the interest of students of the Building Engineering Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Medan in the world of work, particularly in the teaching profession. This research employed a descriptive quantitative approach. The population consisted of all students of the Building Engineering Education Study Program, class of 2022, who had completed educational courses and participated in the School Field Introduction Program (PLP), totaling 83 students. The sampling technique used was total sampling in which all members of the population were included as research respondents. The research instrument was a questionnaire developed based on indicators of interest in the teaching profession. Instrument validity was tested using the Pearson Product Moment correlation, while reliability was tested using the Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient. Data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis with percentage techniques. The results showed that all questionnaire items were valid and reliable. The data analysis indicated that the interest of Building Engineering Education students at Universitas Negeri Medan in pursuing a career in the teaching profession was categorized as high. These findings suggest that students have positive attitudes and strong tendencies toward choosing the teaching profession as a future career, therefore continuous support from the study program is recommended to strengthen students’ interest and readiness to pursue careers as educators.

Abstract

The learning process in class XI DPIB at SMK Negeri 2 Binjai still shows low student learning outcomes due to the use of less varied instructional models that do not optimally engage students. Therefore, it is necessary to implement the Personalized System of Instruction (PSI) model, which presents learning materials in a structured and systematic manner. This study aims to determine whether the PSI learning model has a better effect than the Direct Instruction model on student learning outcomes in the element of Cost Estimation and Construction Scheduling. This research is motivated by the fact that many students in class XI DPIB 2 at SMK Negeri 2 Binjai have not yet reached the minimum competency standard (KKM) in their daily test scores. The study was conducted in the odd semester of the 2025/2026 academic year using a quasi-experimental method, comparing the learning outcomes of students taught using the PSI model and the Direct Instruction model. Data were collected through a multiple-choice test consisting of 31 items that had been tested and declared valid. The results of the study indicate that students taught using the Personalized System of Instruction model achieved higher learning outcomes than those taught using the Direct Instruction model. The average learning outcome of students taught with the PSI model reached 82%, while those taught with the Direct Instruction model achieved only 75%. The results of the hypothesis testing show that thitung = 2.828223 and ttabel = 1.67155, which means that thitung > ttabel. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hα) is accepted. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the Personalized System of Instruction model has a significant effect on learning outcomes in the Cost Estimation and Building Construction Scheduling element at SMK Negeri 2 Binjai.
