Abstract

Talent identification in young karate athletes is a crucial phase for optimizing targeted achievement development programs. This study aims to apply the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method to establish a priority hierarchy of criteria and sub-criteria in talent development for karate athletes aged 6–12 in West Java Province. This study involved 22 karate experts, consisting of coaches and accomplished athletes, to assess the weighting of three main criteria:antropometer, biomotor, andsomatotype, which were further broken down into 14 sub-criteria. Quantitative data analysis was performed using Expert Choice 11 software. The results of the analysis show that in the domainantropometer, height (0.173) is the indicator with the highest priority. In the biomotor domain, agility (0.225) shows the highest weight value compared to strength, endurance, speed, and flexibility. Meanwhile, in the domainsomatotype, body typologymesomorf(0.418) ranks as the top priority, followed by endomorph (0.379) and ectomorph (0.202). Comprehensively, the criteriasomatotype(34%) made the most significant contribution to the overall talent identification model, followed by biomotor andantropometer. These findings affirm the AHP's capability in developing a systematic and objective talent identification model, which can serve as a strategic guideline for coaches in the selection and development process of potential karate athletes from an early age.

Abstract

Football in Indonesia has a weakness, namely their physical condition is less able to survive for 90 minutes in the game. This is closely related to the player's endurance. When a football player has good VO2max endurance, it will be very easy to maintain his performance in playing, unlike when a player does not have good endurance, it will affect his game, fatigue causes a decrease in performance in the match. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is aerobic capacity support for anaerobic alactasid training (speed endurance) in football. The method used in this study is descriptive quantitative. The sampling used in this study was non-probability with a purposive sampling technique. Twenty UPI Football UKM students took part as participants in this study. There are 2 types of tests carried out, namely; (1) Aerobic Capacity Testing (VO2Max) with the Balke test research instrument, (2) 30 m short-distance running training with a total of 10 x maximum repetitions with a predetermined rest time. The data obtained from the test results were then analyzed using SPSS software version 23, namely using the normality test and correlation test. From the results of data processing, the Sig value of the relationship between the VO2Max variable and the Speed Endurance variable is 0.000, which means the Sig value <0.05 and the correlation value is 0.845. So it can be concluded that there is a very strong positive relationship between the VO2Max variable and Speed Endurance.

Abstract

Rowing athlete performance is greatly influenced by aerobic capacity, explosive strength, and precise technical coordination. One strategy widely used to support performance improvement is altitude training, namely training in hypoxic conditions through the Live High-Train Low (LHTL), Live High-Train High (LHTH), and Intermittent Hypoxic Training (IHT) methods. Hypoxic exposure is believed to stimulate an increase in erythropoietin (EPO), which in turn increases hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (Hct), and total hemoglobin mass (Hbmass), thereby optimizing the body's oxygen transport capacity. This study aims to systematically examine the effect of altitude training on blood components and the performance of elite rowing athletes. The study was conducted using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach based on the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Data sources were obtained through the Publish or Perish tool with a publication year range of 2015–2025, and inclusion criteria focused on Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) studies examining the effects of altitude training on elite rowing athletes. The results of the analysis showed that the LHTL method with a duration of 3–4 weeks and hypoxic exposure of ≥12 hours per day provided a significant increase in Hb, Hct, Hbmass, as well as aerobic capacity such as VO₂max and peak power output. However, there are variations in individual responses between "responders" and "non-responders," as well as differences in study design that cause the results to be inconsistent. Factors such as training intensity, initial fitness status, and nutritional support also influence the effectiveness of the intervention. Therefore, it can be concluded that altitude training has the potential to be an effective strategy to improve the performance of rowing athletes through hematological and physiological adaptations, with LHTL as the most promising method. This research is expected to provide theoretical contributions to the development of sports coaching science as well as practical recommendations for coaches and federations in developing evidence-based training programs.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between coaches’ leadership style and athletes’ satisfaction toward their coach and sports performance satisfaction among junior athletes at the national and provincial levels in West Java. The research employed a quantitative descriptive approach with an associative survey design. The sample consisted of 47 athletes enrolled in the Sentra Pembinaan Olahragawan Berbakat Nasional (SPOBNas) and Satuan Pendidikan Olahragawan Daerah (SPOBDA) of West Java, selected through purposive sampling. Research instruments included the Leadership Scale for Sports (LSS), Satisfaction Scale for Athletes (SSA), and Athlete’s Subjective Performance Scale (ASPS). Data were analyzed using Spearman’s Rank correlation test with a significance level of 0.05. The results revealed a strong and significant positive relationship between the coach’s leadership style and athletes’ satisfaction toward the coach (rₛ = 0.684; p < 0.01), but no significant relationship between leadership style and satisfaction toward sports performance (rₛ = 0.151; p > 0.05). These findings indicate that coaches’ leadership plays a crucial role in shaping athletes’ interpersonal satisfaction, whereas performance satisfaction is more influenced by internal factors such as motivation and personal experience. The study highlights the importance of adopting adaptive, participative, and humanistic leadership styles in the coaching of young athletes.
