Digital learning in mathematics has gained increasing attention as a way to support students’ higher-order thinking skills, particularly problem-solving and creative thinking. This study aimed to investigate the effect of digital mathematics learning on students’ problem-solving and creative thinking abilities in statistics. A quasi-experimental design was used involving 54 students who were divided equally into experimental and control groups. Data were collected through pretests and posttests and analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired-sample t-tests, and independent-sample t-tests. The results showed that the experimental group achieved higher posttest scores than the control group in problem-solving ability (72.41 vs. 63.78) and creative thinking ability (70.15 vs. 61.44). The experimental group also showed significant improvement from pretest to posttest in problem-solving ability (mean difference = 15.37, t = 8.21, p < 0.001) and creative thinking ability (mean difference = 14.81, t = 7.56, p < 0.001). In addition, students in the digital learning class performed better than those in the conventional class in fluency, flexibility, originality, and total creativity score. These findings indicate that digital mathematics learning can help students solve statistical problems more systematically and encourage creativity in exploring different solution strategies. This study highlights the importance of integrating digital media, such as interactive videos and Excel-based activities, into statistics learning to support more innovative mathematics instruction.

This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Information Technology (IT) on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and learning motivation of fifth-grade students. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test post-test control group design. The sample consisted of divided into 30 students in the experimental class (PBL assisted by IT) and 30 students in the control class (conventional learning). Research instruments included a HOTS test and a learning motivation questionnaire, both of which were validated (r count > 0.361) and proven reliable (Cronbach’s Alpha= 0.858). The data were analyzed using ANCOVA to control for initial score bias (covariate). The results of the study indicate that (1) there is a significant effect of the IT-assisted PBL model on students’ HOTS skills (p= 0.002) with an effect size= 0.153; (2) there is a significant effect on students’ learning motivation (p= 0.000) with an effect size of 0.375; (3) there is a significant difference in learning motivation between the experimental and control groups. Specifically, this study contributes to: (1) empirically proving that the IT-assisted PBL model effectively enhances students’ HOTS and learning motivation in remote schools, while identifying local characteristics (curiosity about technology, collectivist culture, resilience) as factors reinforcing its effectiveness; (2) developing validated, measurable instruments and a prototype for the implementation of adaptive PBL in resource-constrained contexts; and (3) providing scientific evidence for policymakers in allocating technology budgets and designing context-specific teacher training to achieve equitable educational quality in remote areas.

This study aims to see the development of student soft skills in online learning at Universitas Terbuka (UT). The case study focused on postgraduate students at UT. The soft skills aspects are teamwork and communication in webinar tutorials (Tuweb) at the UT Postgraduate Program. The selected two aspects departed from the results of previous research, which observed the development of student soft skills in several aspects. Two aspects stand out in learning, namely teamwork and communication. The data collection instrument used was Focused Group Discussion (FGD). Data analysis uses content analysis. An important result of the research is that the two aspects of students' soft skills on Tuweb have developed as expected in online learning at UT. This result is an interesting reason for students to study at UT, considering that UT conducts online learning. Students' ability develops not only from the aspect of hard skills but also from the aspect of soft skills. The study's findings suggest that online learning can be an effective way for students to develop their soft skills. Abstrak Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat perkembangan soft skill mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran daring di Universitas Terbuka (UT). Studi kasus berfokus pada mahasiswa pascasarjana di UT. Aspek soft skill yang dilihat adalah aspek kerjasama tim dan komunikasi dalam tutorial webinar (Tuweb) di Program Pascasarjana UT. Dua aspek yang dipilih berangkat dari hasil penelitian sebelumnya yang mengamati perkembangan soft skill mahasiswa pada beberapa aspek. Ada dua aspek yang menonjol dalam pembelajaran, yaitu kerjasama tim dan komunikasi. Instrumen pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah Focused Group Discussion (FGD). Analisis data menggunakan content analysis. Hasil penting dari penelitian ini adalah pengembangan kedua aspek soft skill mahasiswa pada tuweb telah berkembang sesuai dengan yang diharapkan dalam pembelajaran daring di UT. Hasil tersebut menjadi alasan menarik mahasiswa untuk kuliah di UT, mengingat UT melaksanakan pembelajaran secara daring. Kemampuan peserta didik berkembang tidak hanya dari aspek hard skill saja tetapi juga dari aspek soft skill. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran online dapat menjadi cara yang efektif bagi siswa untuk mengembangkan soft skill mereka. Creative thinking and intrinsic motivation remain insufficiently developed in Indonesian junior high school mathematics, as reflected in students’ low performance in the PISA 2022 mathematics and creative-thinking domains. This development research, adapted from Plomp’s model, comprised preliminary research, prototyping, and assessment phases. It aimed to design, validate, and evaluate a Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL)-based Social Arithmetic module for fostering seventh-grade students’ creative thinking and intrinsic motivation. Formative evaluation included a one-to-one evaluation with three students, a small-group trial with six students, and a field test involving 28 heterogeneous seventh-grade students at SMP Avava Batam. Data were collected using expert validation sheets, classroom observations, student and teacher response questionnaires, a pretest–posttest creative-thinking test, and an intrinsic-motivation questionnaire. Aiken’s V was used to assess validity, while practicality and learning improvements were analyzed descriptively and through normalized gain. The module was valid, achieving mean validity scores of 71.11% for media, 77.08% for content, and 72.92% for language. It was also practical to very practical, receiving positive responses of 80.51% from students and 70.00% from the teacher. Students’ creative-thinking scores increased, particularly in originality, while intrinsic motivation achieved a medium N-gain of 0.46. However, because the field test used a one-group pretest–posttest design without inferential analysis, the results indicate descriptive improvement rather than causality. Further studies should confirm these findings through controlled designs, inferential testing, and larger, more diverse samples across schools and regions.
