Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk melihat dampak penggunaan media TV Series Netflix terhadap peningkatan keterampilan pengucapan bahasa Inggris di kalangan mahasiswa Jurusan Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya kemampuan berbahasa Inggris dalam konteks globalisasi, di mana penguasaan bahasa Inggris yang baik menjadi semakin krusial. Dengan meningkatnya popularitas platform streaming seperti Netflix, penelitian ini berfokus pada bagaimana media ini dapat berfungsi sebagai alat bantu yang efektif dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, khususnya dalam aspek pengucapan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif, yang melibatkan pengumpulan data melalui kuesioner dan wawancara dari 202 responden. Kuesioner dibagi menjadi dua bagian, yaitu aksesibilitas dan kegunaan media TV Series Netflix. Wawancara dilakukan untuk mendapatkan pandangan mahasiswa mengenai penggunaan Netflix dalam meningkatkan keterampilan pengucapan mereka, baik dari sisi positif maupun negatif. Data yang diperoleh dari kuesioner dianalisis menggunakan skala Likert, sementara wawancara dianalisis secara kualitatif. Hasil kuesioner yang terdiri dari 24 item menunjukkan bahwa Penerapan Media TV Series Netflix dalam pembelajaran pengucapan bahasa inggris memperoleh nilai rata-rata 36% kategori Sangat Setuju, 54% kategori Setuju. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa memiliki persepsi positif terhadap penggunaan Netflix sebagai media pembelajaran  bahasa Inggris, terutama dalam pengucapan, sehingga mahasiswa dapat menganggapnya sebagai alat praktis dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Kata Kunci : Media Pembelajaran, Netflix, TV Series, Pengucapan Bahasa Inggris

Abstract

This study aims to determine the perception of BEC students on the use of webtoons to improve reading comprehension. This study uses qualitative methods. Data collection techniques using questionnaires and interviews. The results of this study indicate that BEC students agree the use of webtoon applications is effective in improving aspects of reading comprehension, especially in determining the main idea, identifying references, making conclusions, and interpreting vocabulary. From the aspect of reading comprehension, students will be classified according to the level of reading comprehension, namely literal comprehension, inferential comprehension, critical comprehension and creative comprehension. based on the results of student interviews on the perception of the use of webtoons are classified based cognitive components, affective components and conative component. In addition, the results of exploring the benefits derived from the use of webtoons in the material are enhanced involvement, motivational factors, development of critical thinking skills and contextual education

Abstract

Pelatihan penulisan copywriting dan penyelenggaraan pameran iklan ini ditujukan bagi mahasiswa program studi Bahasa Inggris Terapan D4 atau dikenal juga dengan prodi Business English Communication, FBS, Universitas Negeri Makassar. Rangkaian kegiatan tersebut merupakan project dari mata kuliah English for Advertising. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mengenalkan copywriting atau proses pembuatan naskah iklan kepada mahasiswa semester tiga yang memprogram mata kuliah English for Advertising. Pelatihan dan pameran ini diselenggarakan oleh 5 orang dosen prodi Bahasa Inggris Terapan D4 dan dilaksanakan selama 3 hari (Senin-Kamis, 24-26 Maret 2025) dan pada hari ke-4 (Kamis, 27 Maret 2025) dilaksanakan pameran sehari yang bertajuk “The Advertising Show BEC 2023” yang menampilkan karya-karya iklan mahasiswa. Peserta pelatihan dan pameran adalah mahasiswa semester 3, angkatan 2023 yang terdiri dari 2 kelas, yaitu kelas A dan B sebanyak total 60 mahasiswa. Metode pelatihan yang digunakan menggunakan metode ceramah, diskusi dan praktek. Dalam pameran tersebut menampilkan karya-karya copywriting mahasiswa dengan beragam jenis dan tema. Pameran tersebut dihadiri oleh civitas akademik dari kalangan dosen dan mahasiswa di lingkungan Fakultas Bahasa Sastra, Universitas Negeri Makassar. Pelatihan copywriting dan pameran iklan ini diadakan untuk memberikan motivasi dan mengembangkan bakat mahasiswa di bidang periklanan dan juga diharapkan memberikan pengalaman berharga mengenai penulisan copywriting sehingga kelak mereka dapat berkecimpung dalam dunia periklanan dengan bekerja sebagai copywriter di kantor-kantor periklanan maupun sebagai copywriter mandiri.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance students' capacity in information management and news ethics through direct exploration of mass media institutions. The methods used include journalism training, mini research projects, and direct visits to various media outlets such as TVRI, Kompas TV, iNews, Tribun Timur, Herald.id, Derap Hukum, Media Sulsel, Ujung Jari, Koran Makassar, and Beritakota. Students were divided into 12 groups and conducted simple research related to current media issues. The results of this activity indicate a significant improvement in students' analytical skills, understanding of journalistic ethics, and ability to process information in the digital era. Moreover, direct interaction with professional journalists deepened their understanding of the challenges faced in the media industry. The project also successfully produced articles and reports that were published in local media and the department's official website. This activity demonstrates that field-based practical experience is essential in equipping students with relevant and adaptive skills to face the rapidly evolving dynamics of information in society.

Abstract

The occurrence of Covid-19 resulted in a decrease in people's income levels which was also experienced by several student families, especially in the UNM Applied English study program. These problematic conditions became the reason for the service team to plan community service activities for students of the Bahasa Inggri Terapan D4 FBS UNM. This service activity is carried out in the form of a seminar as an introduction to ornamental plant entrepreneurship, ornamental plant business management and how to do online marketing. This seminar is an introductory stage and a discussion session to share experiences in managing an ornamental plant business, so that students can participate and be successful with their ornamental plant business in the future. It is hoped that the ornamental plant business can help their family's economy so that they can focus more on continuing their studies in the future. Abstrak Terjadinya Covid-19 mengakibatkan penurunan tingkat penghasilan masyarakat juga dialami oleh beberapa keluarga mahasiswa khususnya di prodi Bahasa Inggris terapan UNM. Kondisi permasalahan tersebut menjadi alasan bagi tim pengabdi untuk melakukan rencana kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat bagi mahasiwa Prodi Bahasa Inggris Terapan D4 FBS UNM. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanankan dalam bentuk seminar sebagai pengenalan kewirausahan tanaman hias, managemen pengelolaan usaha tanaman hias dan bagaimana melakukan pemasaran secara online. Seminar ini merupakan tahap pengenal dan sesi diskusi share pengalaman mengelola usaha tanaman hias, agar para mahasiswa dapat mengikuti dan sukses dengan usaha tanaman hias mereka dikemudian hari. Usaha tanaman hias diharapkan dapat membantu perekonomian keluarga mereka sehingga mereka dapat lebih fokus melanjutkan tugas studi mereka dimasa depan.

Abstract

This study aims to find out whether the communication and work environment at PDAM Makassar has been effective and also to find out whether the effectiveness of communication and work environment affects employee performance at PDAM Makassar. This research uses the qualitative descriptive method. Data collection techniques use observation checklist research instruments and interview guidelines. The subjects of this study were all employees of PDAM Makassar Service Area IV complaints unit and read meters with the number of speakers being as many as five people who were randomly selected. The data analysis used in this study is data analysis using thematic analysis. And the results of observations and interviews showed that the communication and work environment in Service Area IV of the complaints and reading meter units have been effective. Characterized by well-established communication, the message you want to convey can be conveyed well to the interlocutor, as well as the creation of a comfortable work environment for employees to carry out work, work support facilities are adequate so that work can be carried out properly. So the effectiveness of communication and the work environment affects the improvement of employee performance at PDAM Makassar

Abstract

This research is a qualitative descriptive study that aims to determine the services or services of the tourism industry applied by PT. Iramasuka tours and travels. The existence of customer service is very much needed in corporate organizations, so that it can function as a modern management function which has an inherent function in company management, namely how to play a role in conducting mutual communication for the purpose of creating mutual understanding, mutual respect, mutual trust, creating goodwill, customer satisfaction, decision of the best and so on in order to achieve a positive image for a company. The research have a purpose that to identify and exploring the types of tourism industry services that are applied and the importance of customer service in the world of work at PT. Iramasuka Tours and Travels. This study uses a qualitative approach the data is processed through three qualitative data analysis namely reduction of the data, made the presentation of the data and made the good conclusion.

Abstract

This study analyzed the use of language of negotiation between sellers and buyers at Karisa traditional market in Jeneponto Regency using a qualitative approach. Data was collected through observation, recording, and interviews, and analyzed using discourse analysis. The study found that both sellers and buyers use various linguistic strategies, including bargaining, flattery, and persuasive language, to achieve a successful negotiation outcome. Additionally, the use of local languages, such as Bugis, Makassar, and Jeneponto, is common in the negotiation process to establish a sense of familiarity and trust. The study suggests that the use of local languages should be considered in the negotiation process, particularly in traditional markets. Based on these results, The study did not identify a single "best" way to use the language of negotiation, as the use of different linguistic strategies depended on the negotiation context and individual preferences. However, the study did find that some linguistic strategies were more effective than others in achieving a successful negotiation outcome. For example, both sellers and buyers found that bargaining and the use of persuasive language were effective in persuading the other party to agree to a favorable price or deal. Furthermore, the use of local languages was found to be an effective way to establish a sense of trust and rapport between the sellers and buyers. These findings highlight the importance of understanding the negotiation context and the preferences of the other party to use the language of negotiation effectively.

Abstract

South Sulawesi is one of the largest islands in Indonesia, has a diverseand rich culture, which provides significant adaptation challenges for students fromother regions. The problem of this research is how the adaptation process of non-South Sulawesi students in dealing with culture shock in the Business EnglishCommunication Study Program at Universitas Negeri Makassar. This researchaims to find out how Business English Communication students adapt tointercultural communication and identify factors that cause culture shock. Thisresearch uses qualitative research method with descriptive design, this researchinvestigates the experiences and challenges faced by these students. Data werecollected through structured interviews with 12 students who came from variousregions outside South Sulawesi. The research identified five stages of culturaladaptation: planning, honeymoon, frustration, adjustment, and resolution. Findingsfrom this study revealed that students experienced both positive and negativeemotions during the adaptation period, which were influenced by differences inlanguage, social norms, and daily life.

Abstract

Education in Madrasah faces the challenge of developing learning methods that are in line with the needs of the 21st century, especially with the rapid development of technology. Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) enable deeper understanding and relevant applications to improve the quality of teaching. The purpose of this service activity is to introduce the use of AI such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot to create more efficient lesson plans, as well as interactive applications such as Canva and Heyzine to create engaging teaching materials. The methods used are workshop-based training and direct simulations. The results of the training showed a significant ability of teachers to use technology in creating lesson plans with a Deep Learning approach and utilizing AI in preparing lesson plans as well as using Canva and Heyzine technology in interactive teaching materials.
