Abstract

In the digital era, the internet has become a primary source for the public in seeking religious knowledge, including Hadith. The trend of Hadith searches on Google reflects society’s responses to the socio-political dynamics occurring within a given period. This study aims to examine the patterns of Hadith searches on Google from 2020 to 2024 and analyze the socio-political factors influencing fluctuations in these trends. The urgency of this research lies in the importance of understanding how society utilizes Hadith as a reference in responding to emerging issues, as well as its implications for religious understanding in Indonesia. This study adopts a qualitative approach, employing historical methods and digital data analysis. Data on Hadith search trends were collected through Google Trends and analyzed based on the evolving thematic patterns that emerged annually. Subsequently, the socio-political factors influencing these trends were examined by referring to national events occurring during the same period. The findings reveal that Hadith search trends experienced significant increases during certain periods, particularly in connection with political events, government policies, and religious-social issues. Dominant search themes include leadership, social ethics, and tolerance, reflecting a societal demand for moral guidance in addressing socio-political challenges. These findings underscore that digitalization has transformed the way people access and interpret Hadith, highlighting the need for both digital and religious literacy to ensure accurate and contextual interpretations.

Abstract

Religious conversion in remote indigenous communities involves both changes in religious affiliation and the reorganization of social relationships and access to religious resources. Previous studies of Meratus Muslim converts have examined religious guidance, economic empowerment, and cultural adaptation, but the interaction between kinship relations and geographically constrained institutional access remains less clearly understood. This qualitative single-case study examines how these conditions shaped the social integration experiences of Muslim converts in Patikalain, South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Data were collected between February and March 2026 through semi-structured interviews with two converts, a customary leader, and an Islamic preacher, supplemented by four field visits and a review of the 2024 local profile. The data were analyzed through iterative coding, categorization, data display, and theoretically informed interpretation. The two converts described different kinship-mediated pathways to Islam: gradual parental socialization and social validation through observing relatives and community members. The customary leader reported no open conflict over conversion, while field observations and the preacher’s account indicated that difficult access, long distances, and limited communication constrained the regularity of formal religious guidance. The findings identify kinship relations as an immediate source of social connection and geographic conditions as a constraint on institutional religious access. These patterns are context-specific and support the need for regular, culturally responsive guidance rather than a standardized model of intervention.

Abstract

This paper aimed to analyze how ethnic and religious commodification occurs in local communities during the simultaneous election of regional heads, especially in Central Kalimantan. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Documentation, observation, and several supporting interviews were used in the data collection. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles and Huberman model, including the stages of data reduction, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation. The results show that ethnicity and religiosity are still used as political strategies to gain sympathy and empathy from various levels of society, both the lower middle and upper middle classes. However, these two aspects of identity are not dominant factors in shaping political preferences, suggesting a shift towards more pragmatic, issue-based considerations in the 2024 elections in Central Kalimantan.

Abstract

Today, modern society is often depicted as trapped in an iron cage, a term that refers to formal rationality and results in a "disenchantment of the world." This study critically analyzes how Ibn Arabi's metaphysical thought, particularly through the concept of Tajalli, offers a solution to the crisis of meaning within Max Weber's sociological perspective. Using a qualitative research method with a comparative-philosophical approach, this study shows that while Weber considered rationalization a process of eliminating transcendental elements from the public sphere, Ibn Arabi understood it as the continuous manifestation (Tajalli) of al Haqq in material reality. The findings of the study confirm that Ibn Arabi's philosophical Sufism discourse has the potential to revive spiritual meaning in the modern world, shifting the view of "the world as an object of power" to "the world as a spiritual entity."
