Abstract

The Study on the Formation Process of Derived Words in Malay and Iban is a bilingual research that aims to study the process of forming derived words in Malay and Iban while also discussing the differences that occur from the aspect of morphemes that form derived words for both languages. The method used is entirely a qualitative method by highlighting document analysis instruments and checklist forms. Some derived word lists are taken from the Kamus Dewan Edisi Keempat and Bup Sereba Reti. The data obtained is released in the form of a checklist table to display the comparison, especially the difference aspects of Malay and Iban derived words. In order to see the word formation process that takes place, Tatabahasa Dewan, Nahu Melayu Mutakhir and Iban Language Morphology are used as data sources. The findings state that all derived words with the same meaning in Malay Language and Iban Language are combined with different morphemes to form prefixes, suffixes and affixes. The word class transformation process based on Minimalist Theory also states that there are significant differences for derived words built in simple sentences. Malay does not go through the root word level for word production while Iban language can go through root words and base words. This study can establish a limitation between Malay Language and Bahasa Iban which have similarities in terms of language systems. It is hoped that this study will have an impact on language scholars as a stepping stone to continue other researches, especially studies in the form of comparisons between two languages that have correlations and kinship relationships.

Abstract

This study was carried out to identify the use of Malay in writing statuses on the social media Facebook page “Aku Anak Iban”; analyse the factors of using Malay in writing statuses on social media on the Facebook page “Aku Anak Iban”; and describe the steps to overcome the use of Malay in writing statuses on social media on the Facebook page “Aku Anak Iban”. The methodology of this study is a qualitative study. The researcher used the observation method to observe the writing of 15 members of the Facebook page to answer the first objective. Next, the researcher conducted interviews with 15 informants to answer research questions objective two and objective three. The results of the study found that as many as 59 Malay words were used to write posts on the status of the Facebook page “Aku Anak Iban”. The highest frequency is the words ‟hati”, ‟maksud”, ‟manusia”, ‟tapi” dan ‟yang” which are three times and followed by the ‟akan”, ‟apalagi”, ‟cuma” and ‟sebab” with frequency twice. Interviews with research informants revealed three elements and three processes. The study's findings demonstrate that the first element is an effective communication tool, with good use and mastery of the Malay language and poor use and mastery of the Iban language. In conclusion, Malay language phrases are used on Facebook sites by social media users, resulting in code-mixing between Malay and Iban languages.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the need for efforts to teach disaster principles to elementary school students, so a scientific foundation is needed regarding disaster education models for elementary school students. This qualitative descriptive research describes elementary school teachers' perceptions of the disaster education model for elementary school students. The sampling technique uses the purposive sampling technique. Data was obtained through questionnaires and interviews with 30 elementary school teachers from different schools. The data analysis technique uses data reduction, presentation, and conclusion. The data validity process is carried out using triangulation techniques. The research results show that the teacher's perception of aspects of the teaching material is in the poor category, the teacher's perception of the learning interaction aspect is in the poor category, the teacher's perception of elements of the learning environment is in the poor category, and the teacher's perception of the learning model aspect is in the poor category. This result shows that teachers need a better perception of the disaster education process for elementary school students. The findings of this research can be used as a basis for developing appropriate disaster education processes for elementary school students.

Abstract

Criticism of exams can be used to gauge student achievement for graduation. This study examined the quality of Summative Tests (ST) created by senior high school teachers in Palembang, Indonesia, specifically focusing on the Islamic Education subject. The evaluation criteria included item validity, reliability, discrimination index, and disruptive effectiveness. The analysis involved 800 answer sheets from 20 teachers. Results indicated that while 20 teachers achieved high reliability, two struggled with poor reliability in terms of disruptive effectiveness. Respondent 11 faced challenges with only 28% valid items and a moderate Cronbach's Alpha. Additionally, the disruptive effectiveness and discrimination index were poor. These findings suggest a need for teacher training to enhance skills in crafting and administering high-quality summative tests. The implications of these findings extend to improving teacher training and ensuring the effectiveness of summative assessments in gauging student achievements for graduation. The research contributes valuable insights into the complexities of teacher-created exams and offers a basis for enhancing the overall quality of education assessment practices.

Abstract

Efforts are required to enhance community resilience to disasters, especially among elementary school students who are highly vulnerable to losses caused by natural disasters. In previous research, a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) based digital disaster learning model was developed for elementary school students, so further research is needed to determine its effect on the adaptability of elementary school students. This study aimed to assess the impact of the STEM-based digital disaster learning model on the disaster adaptation abilities of elementary school students. This research is a quasi-experimental. The data collection instrument is the disaster adaptation ability essay test questions. The data analysis process uses the help of the SPSS 26 application. The findings found an average difference in students' disaster adaptation abilities between STEM-based digital learning models and conventional learning models. This finding was also reinforced by the post-test average scores of students who studied using STEM-based digital disaster learning models, which were higher than those with conventional learning models. So overall, the STEM-based digital disaster learning model increases elementary school students' disaster adaptation abilities. The implications of this research can be used as a reference in developing elementary school students' disaster adaptation abilities.

Abstract

Cultural elements, such as proverbs, hold deeply rooted educational values that have been integral to shaping societal norms and practices. These values can be utilized to educate children and build their character from an early age, whether through formal or nonformal education, guided by parents or teachers. In Islamic education, the integration of cultural values has been extensively studied and discussed. This study aims to explore how the values embedded in Sundanese culture can serve as a foundation for educating children from an Islamic perspective. Through a qualitative approach, the research examines Sundanese proverbs and their alignment with Islamic educational principles, focusing on the roles of parents, teachers, and educational institutions in characterbuilding. The study finds that educating children based on Sundanese values within an Islamic framework requires a comprehensive understanding of both cultural and religious teachings. A key element is the pivotal role of mothers as primary role models, supported by teachers and schools, to nurture children who are devoted to Allah and possess noble character. This research highlights the importance of integrating Sundanese cultural values with Islamic educational principles to create a holistic approach to character education. It underscores the collaborative roles of family, educators, and society in fostering a generation rooted in cultural wisdom and Islamic ethics.

Abstract

Mastering the ability to read the Qur'an is an obligation for every Muslim. However, many Quranic learning models are not able to make students proficient in reading the Qur'an and able to practice it in everyday life. This study aims to provide an overview of the impact of learning the Qur'an using the Tilawati method accompanied by a strategy of reward and punishment, evaluation, and collaboration between students on the independence of learning the Qur'an at a madrasatul Quran in South Kalimantan. This research is based on a qualitative method with a case study type. The data of this study were obtained from student observation and validation through interviews with teaching teachers. The results of the study stated that the use of the Tilawati method plus several combination strategies was able to increase students' independence. Students also become more confident and work well with other students during the learning process. Thus, the Tilawati method has great potential to be applied in every Madrasatul Quran.
