Abstract

Community Service Learning (CSL) is designed to help communities in solving their social problems. The role of adult learning facilitators is important to ensure that all the programs of CSL are running well. This study aims to investigate the competences of adult learning facilitators in community service learning programs. The methodology used in this study is literature review. A total of 85 journal papers were identified by the search machine. However, only 15 articles selected to be reviewed in this study. The result shows that there are five main competences that should be mastered by learning facilitators in community services, such as: Knowledge, Management, Communication, Assessment, and Motivation (KoMCAMo). It can be concluded that the competences of adult learning facilitators play significant role to implement the CSL among community`s members. For recommendation, the future projects related to CSL need to require competent facilitators to enhance participation of community for joining the programs. The regular trainings are encouraged to adult learning facilitators to create an effective CLS`s program.

Abstract

This study aims to develop android-based digital teaching materials in local history courses at the University of Riau. This Android-based local history teaching material integrates the character values of Sultan Syarif Kasim II which are in accordance with the needs of history education students. This development research uses a 4D model, developed by Thiagarajan, Dorothy S. Semmel, and Melvyn I. Semmel. This research model consists of 4 steps, namely: define, design, develop, and disseminate. The first step is to conduct a preliminary study with a qualitative descriptive approach. The second step is to design an android-based teaching material product. The third step is product printing, product validation by experts, feasibility trials, and product revisions. The fourth step is to disseminate the product so that it can be used as lecture material by students of history education in Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Riau.

Abstract

The development of a Movable Page-Based Interactive Book on Numbers in Elementary Schools aims to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of the product being developed. The use of teaching materials has an important role including the role for students, teachers in classical learning, groups and individuals. An interactive book based on Movable Pages is a teaching material that is systematically arranged to help students understand the concept of numbers in elementary schools. This study uses a development research approach by applying the ADDIE Model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation).  Research that has been carried out up to the Development stage. Based on the results of the research that the development of movable page-based interactive books on number material of n elementary schools was developed declared and valid by 4 (four) validators, with a percentage of 90.4% in the very valid cate-gory. In the implementation stage, namely the product trial stage, namely one-to-one and small group trials which were carried out in class V students at SD Negeri 11 Sungai Pinang as many as 21 students, the results of the student questionnaire recapitulation were 89.7% with the very good category. Thus, from the several stages that have been passed in this study, it was found that the Movable Page-Based Interactive Book on Numbers Material in Elementary Schools is valid and practical. This interactive book can help elementary school teachers so that students can easily understand number material in learning mathematics and fur-ther researchers can continue this research to determine the effectiveness of interactive book products and can develop interactive books for other materials in learning mathematics in elementary schools.

Abstract

The outbreak of the deadly coronavirus at the end of 2019 (Covid-19) has pushed many education institutions to do a radical transformation by moving all forms of their services, particularly teaching from traditional face-to-face mode to completely online foreign language teaching. This research aims to investigate Indonesian students’ perception of online learning and the three most challenging problems they encountered when enrolling in it under the context of English as Foreign Language students. Based on a review of the literature on online learning and students’ perception, a questionnaire was constructed and distributed to 57 students that had enrolled in an online course via google form along with a question asking the three most challenging problems they encountered during the course. Analysis of the responses demonstrated that most of the students had a positive perception of online learning. The three most challenging problems the students encountered were signal (internet connection), money (financial ability), and comprehension (comprehending the course) respectively. The result indicates that online learning can be a reliable solution for the teaching and learning process during a pandemic. However, in applying it, the campus must consider an alternative solution for the students who live in the bad internet connection area. Supporting them with subsidies, or free internet packages can help them to keep studying during a hard time. Lastly, teachers must work hard to ensure that their teachings are understandable so that their students will not get lost during the learning process.
