Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of religiosity on guilt feelings among female inmates in Class IIA Women's Penitentiary Martapura. The research involved 213 female inmates aged between 15 and 50 years old. The participants' guilt feelings were measured using a guilt feelings scale, while their religiosity was assessed using a religiosity scale. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings indicated a significant positive correlation between religiosity and guilt feelings, suggesting that higher levels of religiosity were associated with increased guilt feelings. Regression analysis further confirmed the influence of religiosity on guilt feelings. The study also explored the influence of age, types of offenses, sentence duration, and length of incarceration on guilt feelings and religiosity. The results revealed variations in guilt feelings and religiosity based on these factors. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between religiosity and guilt feelings among female inmates, emphasizing the importance of religious factors in the correctional context.

Abstract

This study aims to develop Information and Communication Technology (ICT)’s skills for Students with Learning Disabilities (SLD) in Malaysia and Ukraine. The methodology used in this study is based on the Universal Learning Design implementation, which involved research design that consists of three phases: Preparation, Integration and Assessment. The Preparation and Integration Phases are the stages for designing ICT activities and practicing digital skills. While the Assessment Phase is the phase to determine the usability of ICT for SLD. The findings of the study show that the Preparation and Integration Phases study are the most effective types of activities for digital skills development. It is obtained from the opinion of the experts in ICT related to learning content ranging from simple to complex with a defuzzification value of 0.939. The results of the Assessment Phase show that SLD can develop their ICT’s skills by using videos related to real situations. It also provides SLD with activities that can build a communication network between them and public and private institutions. All these activities were provided to stimulate and motivate them to work hard to achieve the desired goals, which are to meet the needs of SLD and known as “ICT skills”.

Abstract

This study focuses on the topic of emerging adult literacy in Indonesia by investigating the sociocultural perspective of tutors who involved in the program. This study adopts a sociocultural perspective and presents an ethnographic investigation that examines the instructional practices of two adult education tutors. In-depth and repeated interviews were conducted with the two subjects to learn about their socioeconomic situation, teaching and training history, personal motivation, literacy beliefs, and pedagogical philosophy. The results of this study, which looked at two tutors' literacy instruction in terms of their characteristics and attitudes as well as their working environments, have shown the benefits of adopting a social perspective on teaching. The findings show that these two tutors are highly motivated and committed to helping their students learn to read and write despite the challenges they face as tutors, including a lack of thorough pre-service, limited in-service training, and minimal ongoing financial and pedagogical support. The results of this research could potentially have significant consequences for developing more efficient adult literacy initiatives in Indonesia and similar culturally heterogeneous environments.

Abstract

Pre-service teachers must teach online due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. As a result, they lacked competence, particularly in face-to-face teaching. This study aimed to discover the challenges and opportunities pre-service teachers face when the rules for online learning are enforced. This research was based on the qualitative method. Online interviews and focus group discussions with respondents were used to collect data. The respondents to this study were five students in the fifth semester of 2020 in Indonesia. The data analysis technique used Five Phases of Analysis. The results showed that the main obstacle experienced by pre-service teachers on campus was that they could not experience the face-to-face teaching process because of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, they were practicing online teaching. They said they were worried that when they became teachers, they would have to teach face-to-face even though they did not have enough experience doing so. However, this form of online teaching practice provides a better opportunity for pre-service teachers because they are better prepared for future forms of education where education will be integrated with technology. Pre-service teachers' experiences with online instruction during the COVID-19 showed challenges and possibilities dealt with by pre-service teachers where they can take advantage of several advantages or opportunities made available by the pandemic to help them develop into competent ICT educators. They will also have a leg up when the educational system shifts to a hybrid or fully online format in the future.

Abstract

Assessments are essential in influencing students' academic results, but there are still worries about the equity and thoroughness of tests created by tutors for different subjects. This research examines how students view these assessments in Citizenship Education, Islamic Religious Education, and History Education. The main goal is to investigate how Package C Program students view the distribution and quality of final exam questions and evaluate their preparedness and performance. This qualitative study used thematic analysis on interviews with 20 randomly chosen Package C Program students in Palembang. The information was examined to find common themes on how feel about their readiness and the tutors' involvement in creating exams. The results suggest that students believe the exam questions do not accurately represent their understanding or what they have learned. Numerous individuals are unhappy with mistakes in the test questions, which hinder their success. The study also identifies differences between students' anticipations and the real exam material. Prejudiced evaluation methods and varying test creation by educators can greatly harm student learning and the development of future educational policies. Improvements are necessary in exam design to guarantee fairness and accuracy. This research offers fresh perspectives on how the quality of exams affects student performance and highlights the necessity of inclusive test development with input from various parties to prevent biases.

Abstract

Abstract

The outbreak of the deadly coronavirus at the end of 2019 (Covid-19) has pushed many education institutions to do a radical transformation by moving all forms of their services, particularly teaching from traditional face-to-face mode to completely online foreign language teaching. This research aims to investigate Indonesian students’ perception of online learning and the three most challenging problems they encountered when enrolling in it under the context of English as Foreign Language students. Based on a review of the literature on online learning and students’ perception, a questionnaire was constructed and distributed to 57 students that had enrolled in an online course via google form along with a question asking the three most challenging problems they encountered during the course. Analysis of the responses demonstrated that most of the students had a positive perception of online learning. The three most challenging problems the students encountered were signal (internet connection), money (financial ability), and comprehension (comprehending the course) respectively. The result indicates that online learning can be a reliable solution for the teaching and learning process during a pandemic. However, in applying it, the campus must consider an alternative solution for the students who live in the bad internet connection area. Supporting them with subsidies, or free internet packages can help them to keep studying during a hard time. Lastly, teachers must work hard to ensure that their teachings are understandable so that their students will not get lost during the learning process.

Abstract

This phenomenological study sought to explore the lived experiences of student mothers enrolled in a Philippine higher education institution situated in the province. Participants were determined using a purposive sampling technique with the following criteria: currently enrolled in the higher education institution; has at least a child; 20 years old or above. FB Messenger was used in interviewing and gathering the research data. From the thematic data analysis, four major themes were revealed: (1) challenges faced by student mothers; (2) advantages of being a student mother; (3) managing time in dual roles; and (4) support by others. The student mothers face challenges in performing their dual role such as bullying, time management, and financial problem. The student mothers, however, get source of inspiration, respect, school excuses, and important lessons in life. Their parenting experience gives them a strong personality and an inspiration to continue their education pursuits. Though managing time is really hard for them, they are able to surpass it through time management and parental help. Support systems such as their teachers, classmates, parents, friends, and relatives also play a significant role in their lives. This study provides understanding on how to make tertiary education more accessible and transformational most especially to women who handle the dual roles as students and parents.
