Abstract

The future significance of mariculture development in Indonesia lies in its potential to enhance the growth of the fisheries subsector. The fisheries subsector is anticipated to prioritize and serve as a potential catalyst for economic expansion. The cultivation of tiger grouper among marine fish exhibits significant potential for advancement. Nevertheless, the primary impediment to expanding aquaculture production, whether conducted intensively or extensively, is the occurrence of disease and pest outbreaks among fish populations. Fish sickness is a significant contributor to economic losses within the society, particularly among farmers who rely on the cultivation of tiger grouper (Ephinephelus fuscoguttatus) as a valuable commodity. One of the challenges encountered in cultivating groupers pertains to the elevated mortality rate. The presence of the disease poses a significant obstacle to the successful production of grouper. The present study investigates the parasitic infections observed in tiger grouper (Ephinephelus fuscoguttatus). The present study was undertaken by comprehensively evaluating relevant literature published in the past decade, spanning 2013 to 2023. Seven studies about this subject were identified utilizing Harzing's Publish or Perish program. The findings indicate that a particular parasite species, Diplectanum sp., was identified in tiger grouper (Ephinephelus fuscoguttatus). Additional parasites are present and will be examined in this paper.

Abstract

This research explores the ecology of mangroves on two islands, Java and South Tapanuli, using a systematic literature review (SLR) approach based on data from Scopus for the last three years. This research aims to assess the characteristics of the mangrove ecosystem in these two regions and understand the factors that influence the ecological sustainability of mangroves. This research used strict inclusion criteria, involved relevant and peer-reviewed scientific articles, and included several studies that focused on mangrove waters' physical, chemical, and biological aspects. The research results show significant differences in the characteristics of mangrove waters between Java and South Tapanuli. In Java, mangroves tend to have higher densities. It includes more stable water conditions, while in South Tapanuli, mangroves are more fragmented with higher variability in water conditions. In addition, this research reveals areas for improvement in mangrove management and conservation in both regions, including a need for more supportive policies and minimal community participation in conservation efforts. This research also suggests the need for improvements in mangrove ecosystem management through community-based approaches and more integrated policies. Significant increases in community participation and more effective policy implementation are needed to continue healthy and sustainable mangrove ecosystems. This research provides important insights for policymakers, researchers, and conservation practitioners in mangrove conservation efforts in Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

Catfish cultivation in Indonesia is crucial for food security and the economy, but faces efficiency and sustainability challenges. This study analyzes the impact of feed quality on production efficiency, economics, and environmental sustainability in simple concrete ponds. Using a controlled experimental design and three different feed treatments, results show that high-quality feed reduces the Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), increases biomass, and provides better economic returns. Eco-friendly feed also supports water quality stability. These findings highlight the importance of feed innovation for sustainable aquaculture and recommend cross-sector collaboration to strengthen food systems.

Abstract

Kemiri Village, located in Pacet District, Mojokerto Regency, has significant fisheries potential but faces various obstacles such as limited technology adoption, management skills, and suboptimal market access. Through a community service initiative involving teachers, lecturers, students, practitioners, researchers, and the active participation of the community and local partners, this program is designed to strengthen the capacity of tilapia farmers to support village food security. The approach used includes problem identification through focus group discussions, training on environmentally friendly aquaculture technology innovations, and mentoring in the implementation of a fishery business management system. This activity also integrates digital marketing education and training in independent feed production using local ingredients. Periodic evaluations are conducted to measure skill improvements, production efficiency, and the economic impact on farmers. The program results show improved fish farming skills, reduced production costs, and significant increases in yields. Furthermore, it has formed a more empowered farmer group with access to a wider market. The multi-stakeholder synergy within this program has proven effective in addressing various local challenges and promoting sustainable development, with the ultimate goal of improving the well-being of the Kemiri Village community.
